I've been struggling with acne in my adult years. I'm 35 and even though I have acne somewhat under control using a lot of products, I still get these red lumps around my mouth. They are not like normal pimples that are filled with pus. These lumps have fluid/blood and can't really be popped. Sometimes I get these every month, sometimes every few months.

This latest one is a severe one. It started off as a red mark then grew quickly. At one stage it started leaking fluid and when I squeezed it a bit, milky pus like fluid came out, like in an infection. Even when it came out it didn't reduce the size of the lump.

When I went to my doctor he said it looked like a cold sore but from what I read about cold sores this doesn't sound like one.

Any advice on how to treat and prevent these would be much appreciated.

it could be a cyst?

when a pore gets blocked, Instead of coming to the surface, the Infectiongoes under the skin.

when they are small, itsbest to never squeeze them, the infection will only spread under the skin, the lump will get larger and stay around longer.

cysts can be caused by diet, bad soaps/creams (in some cases, ive read about Fluoride in toothpaste causing cysts/ spotsaround the mouth)

I have suspected toothpaste in the past and I've been mindful of it when brushing.

I started thinking it was an infection caused from me wiping my mouth with my dirty gym towel after drinking my protein shake, so I've stopped doing that.

Hopefully I don't get any more. I can't believe my doctor told me it was a cold sore.

doctors can be useless at times.

do a search on proteinshakes and acne. some if the stuff they put in that stuff including milk can cause spotsin some people.

Yeah I've switched to pea protein for a while now.
