Some hope for everyone

Recommended Posts

seems like Lim got a really good result here. I know people with scarring find it hard to find any hope because real results are few and far between. Hopefully this can give some people hope.

Another Lim related post! It's not like we haven't had any on here previously.

I would be far more interested in posters sharing their actual real life experiences visiting him.

Shilling isn't it?

I'm not sure why this guy has been boosted to messiah status so quickly here, it's some 'notice me sempai' crap (evidenced by someone claiming to be 'endorsed' by him a few weeks ago lol), and a personality cult pushed by 2 certain posters. He's yet another derm who talks the talk but doesn't /quite/ walk the walk. Is he one of the better derms you should go to? probably, if you are in Oz or SEA or can burn money, but after watching most of his channel, you realise he is actually telling everyone what they want to hear, and his before/afters are taken in swelling range or, what really pisses me off, in vastly different lighting to the originals and only showing one lighting angle photo,  /despite/ previously emphasising the importance of [angled] lighting to judge the /initial/ appearance of a scar.

Even in this very video the before/after lighting is too different to make an objective judgement on the results. Especially with such a low-res video. Her improvement is clear, but the lighting could easily push 60% improvement to the high 90s, and that is misleading and not at all okay. The difference between 60% and 90% is enormous compared to the difference between 30% and 60%. Do you understand? There is a ceiling there.

He has before claimed its 'difficult' to replicate the lighting of the initial photos, but that is a load of rubbish. In this case the wavelength of light isn't even close to the same. It would be a fairer comparison if the 'afters' were taken in such cold, harsh, fluorescent lighting. But nah, let's show them in a softer yellower light which everyone looks better in.

That said, at least his bumboys have stopped thinking fractional laser is the absolute devil because of what he says. Edited by machiavelli

agreed Machiavelli. it's one thing to say it's hard to get the same lighting—it's another to make no attempt to get the after photo's light even remotely as harsh as the original. Was just looking at his instagram and can't believe people lap it up. I'm sure he does get "decent results", as decent as anyone could get, but i'd much prefer to see these decent results instead of this attempt to sell us "amazing results".

he has plenty of pictures in the same lighting that are hd and clear, I'm not here to endorse him I could give a shit honestly, hes just the only one posting stuff that actually makes me feel like I can improve my scars. If you guys can find any better pictures or videos then post those, its all about just giving us hope

I would think so as well, again I was just trying to provide some people with hope if theres a doctor getting better results then lets start posting about him. At the end of the day, theres not a cure for scars so the amount of improvement were gonna get is totally based on the doctors skill with the current methods we have.

Yeah, I mean, that's a pretty close up shot of her face in the "After", and her scars are well-defined boxcar scars, which means they should be quite visible regardless of lighting.

If I had those kinds of results, and my scars looked like that under that kind of lighting, I doubt I'd think about them much anymore.

@Raster the way I determine if pictures or videos of before and afters are fake or altered is by focusing on the pores around the area of the treatement. For example in that video In both the before and afters you can still clearly see her nose pores and they look exactly the same. This makes sense because they didn't treat her nose pores, so if the lighting was different those would disappear as well. Espically when he shows videos of ice pick scars improving he gets really close to their face to the point where you can see black heads and other tiny pores but the scars that he treated are mostly gone so this lets me know that theres actual improvement there. In photoshop you can leave parts of the skin untouched and only fix the scars but in videos that's not the case so if he was only posting pictures then I would doubt him. But to each is own I guess, id love to hear what other people think about if hes changing lighting or what not.

Oh my godness. Since this patient allowed to show his case through Lim's instagram, I believe we can discuss him here.  "there is a hope" - Lim.

This is just so heart breaking to see. The other instagram video show another angle of his scars. Even the needle couldn't penetrate his scars. I can't imagine how difficult it's for him to endure all these years.

Lim posted this on Instagram for doubters & haters a $100K challenge. Seems like there are lots of Drs who want in on the action, fakers, equipment manufacture's, and trolls posting here recently instead of actually doing something to fix acne scars. What is the truth, go with the data and not hearsay. Look at some of the past posting history of some of these users, says a lot about who they are.

In his post he said if his supposed results are not real, he will give you $100K but if the results are indeed real, he wants you to donate to a dog shelter / your mum's caravan park. All patients who agree on the 'bet' will allow access to their patient's files to the public, and will be examined IN REAL LIFE for everyone to see. Would be really good so see someone on this forum $100K richer....or you will be spending a few years paying off payments on that donation. As part of this bet you get access to the photos for forensics - if the raw file has been manipulated in any way, you are up $100K. Seems like he is trying to say put you money where your mouth is.

Ask Dr Lim who the best Acne Scar Drs are, he will give you names across the World or even other places in Australia.  Ethical medicine, or possibly he's dodging another scar revision procedure and or saving the patient visiting him? Who knows? Lots of Specialists Rullan, Novick, Chu, Emil, etc.

That is extremely severe scarring and a ton of fibrosis, poor fellow.
I hope dr Lim can improve upon that. Regardless of the critics and whatnot, im pretty certain the doctor is doing him a favor. Possibly not charging him the ton of money that type of scarring costs.

That level of scarring is some of the worst I've ever seen, and I have seen a lot.  I remember seeing that a few months ago and just being utterly shocked.    I hate to say it, but all conventional methods will not do much for that poor guy.    In my opinion, he's a candidate for  skin grafting or face transplantation.  It sounds extreme, but there is essentially no good skin left on his face.  He's as disfigured as it gets in terms of facial scarring.

It's utterly heartbreaking that people have to suffer like this, and that medical science is so currently limited that there is nothing that can feasibly be done.

As for Lim, there have been instances of inconsistent lighting but on balance, I think he's one of the honest and transparent doctors.   There are much worse offenders out there including doctors who have outright stolen pictures and passed them off as their own work.  I've seen Lim's work stolen a few times, but he's getting more well known so those unethical doctors get called out right away.

Lim seems like a good guy, he replies to e-mails and offers advice, uploads videos, etc. although he is a bit expensive which I think is kind of immoral. Personally, I don't think doctors should be getting rich off of other peoples health problems. I understand their jobs are difficult but your health is kind of a necessity and I don't think scarring is any different in that, for some people fixing it is a necessity.

That being said, he isn't the only one that's expensive and exclusively for the rich and he does do a lot of good for the community as a whole. He's just "out there" more so he lends himself to some of the negativity. Anyway, good results here.

I was very drawn up to him at the beginning and I even considered flying to Brisbane to see him. I am from South America so that would mean 24+hour flight. I even emailed his office but I never got a reply.

Since then I've been reading all of his opinions and watching his videos. He seems like a good doctor but at the same time I reckon most people like him because he's a good marketer. The fact that he's doing old-school methods of scar revision which aren't widely performed by most derms helps his case. The fact that he delivers a great deal of information about them helps a lot too.

Overall, he seems like a good derm to me, but certainly not to the point of flying to see him. There are probably several good and perhaps even better derms in the USA and Europe who just happen to be a bit more low key and with a less marketeable oriented approach.

Abraxas agreed. He pulled me in initially too with the youtube videos, particularly where he said if your scar doctor isn't examining scars under indirect angled lighting then they aren't doing their job. And then he doesn't use this same standard to judge his own after shots....
And to the comment above "I mean, it's a great improvement regardless of lighting, is it not?"—simple answer is we don't know. The lighting prevents us doing so. But the fact he isn't testing his results against the same standards he tests the starting points is revealing..

I'm sure he is decent, but over-hyped. Nokor seems to have positive testimonials here from people which are worth 1000 times more than any practitioner's own Before & Afters...
I quite like Sam Lam in that way—his afters are in the same lighting and show decent results. Scars generally visible but improved.
