Success treating depressed acne scarring with subcision + Juvaderm

Recommended Posts

Hi! I just made a long post sharing my success with accutane in the prescription treatment forum. I completed my course of accutane about nine years ago. I’m just now addressing the depressed scarring around my mouth. I’m working with Dr. Jacqueline Calkin in Sacramento, CA. The photos show my scars before subcision + Juvaderm, the day after treatment, and a month after treatment. The subcision cost $250, the Juvaderm cost $500. I am thrilled with the results. Dr. Calkin has recommended touch-up Juvaderm as needed. She also said another subcision could be performed in 6 months if the results from the first one are not as permanent as I would like (ie results from subcision are cumulative). 90FD6EE2-D795-430B-879A-28980523CC34.thumb.jpeg.a012129e0d7d10f75c90ff44bf6acfa3.jpeg2768011F-5421-4167-AEDE-70D0AD22A1C3.thumb.jpeg.b9b14382e106a35adeb802401d252c6b.jpeg87FD10AF-6531-4B8E-851C-C9D301F926C7.thumb.jpeg.d7bf816933be97b88b66257cbaf48192.jpegE83DA836-D709-4EDB-B559-A4BE9994889D.thumb.jpeg.d93bd33606d4c2e5587e2b25a3649150.jpeg77F157DA-D51F-4C76-96EC-593867F7D2A7.thumb.jpeg.90d3578921187a97aa6e70fd3b015798.jpegC8F32B79-DE9D-4658-BEDA-8F3BF8CE520F.thumb.jpeg.18fdf044e83328021ad4ee3f380ba0cc.jpeg

It definately looks a whole lot better. Congrats on the improvement and im glad to hear the positive impact accutane had in your life. I experienced the exact same thing with accutane, it is truly a life saver.

Looks better.

please let us know how it evolves.

I may continue to update, but honestly this site is just as full of negativity as I remember. When I share photos saying I'm thrilled with my results and the first response is "Well it's still not perfect and your filler is going to wear off" that's pretty telling. It reminds me of when I was on this site years ago, so excited that Accutane was finally clearing my acne after 10 years of unsuccessful prescription treatments. I got so many comments along the lines of "Just wait, your acne is going to come back."

My face will never be perfect, but I'm happy with myself and I don't spend my days fixated on my appearance. Tbh I'd rather have all my scars back than be as bitter and negative as some of the folks posting here.

I think it looks a whole lot better ! Let me know how long the filler lasts. I am interested in getting filler when I save up for it. Also , don't pay attention to the negativity on these forums. I think your skin looks really good, a hell of a lot better than mine. I'm hoping filler will help my scars that I have.Keep posting updates for the people like me that really appreciate it and won't down you for it. I would never be mean to someone on these forums. Plus , I am really sad over my skin so it helps to see posts like yours that actually have success.

Thanks floridagirl :) I have a love/hate relationship with this site lol. There were a lot of cool people here that helped me through a really hard time in my life. One of them I even met in person, sweetest woman ever and one of the most awesome experiences to sit down and have lunch with someone I had exchanged tons of messages with. But ultimately the negative voices began to outweigh the positive ones.

I'm so sorry you are feeling sad over your skin now, believe me I have been there. I hope you are able to find a dermatologist you respect and trust. Once I was able to do that, I started listening to them and I stopped listening to strangers on the internet. ;) Wishing you lots of luck and love! XO

Trolls will always be trolls. Don’t pay attention to them as you’ll give them way too much power. You’re a “veteran” member, you should know better!!

Congrats on the improvement! I definitely see a marked improvement. Keep it up! Very happy for you. Is there a reason why you went with Juvederm as opposed to others? Bellafill?

So true re: trolls :smileys_n_people_24:

Bellafill is permanent, which is great in the sense that patients don't have to keep returning to the dermatologist and paying for more product. But the advantage of Juvaderm is that if the patient doesn't like how it looks (or if the derm overfills, or if the product migrates, etc.) the product can be dissolved. I like that HA fillers are reversible, and if I have to pay $500 once or twice a year to maintain the fullness in my lower face, that's ok with me. ^_^

These are great results congrats!! I've been considering going to get fillers for a while.  Also the good news about fillers is over time your body will began to metabolize them slower and slower the more injections you do.  My sister told me she tried to dissolve her lip fillers recently and the doctor couldn't even get rid of all of it the first time.  So happy you found a solution that works for you.  Cheers

its an improvement but you still dont have clear skin and the filler will fade

depends how you look at it, im more pessimistic

Oh my gosh!

These are fantastic results and well done. Her skin looked good even before treatment, but I think it is fantastic she decided to share a positive result. The subcision part can last, as filler is normally used as a spacer. Hopefully the scar doesn't teether again. Well done Edited by ScarRight

It does look a lot better, congratulations with your results!

I just finished a round of subsicion as well, and am currently undergoing a series of microdermabrasion to kind of "sand" the remaining scars.

And don't be bothered by trolls, they're just looking for a way to share their misery. :( I think if you just keep going in the right direction you'll get results that you would eventually be happy with!

Update: been about 9 months since I had the subcision and filler. So happy with my results!

note: I’m 35 and do not expect any treatment to give me perfect skin. The improvement from my  before pics in my first post up to the pics posted today are worth every penny I paid and then some. Highly recommend Dr. Jacqueline Calkin if you’re in the Northern California area, so affordable, sweet, knowledgeable, easy to get an appointment, and really just wants her patients to be happy with their results.

I always say my only regret about accutane is not going on it sooner lol. Glad to hear it worked out for you as well!!!!

Still looks great, you must be very happy!

Definitely happy! Still wonder if microneedling or more filler would improve the scars more, but I think at this point I just need to say “this is good enough!” and go live my life haha.
