WHOA! Did u guys pay this much @ the derm?

Hey,

I just got my doctor visit bill and it came out to a total of $155 (w/insurance)! Did you guys pay around that price? I'm kind of thinking that this includes the blood tests because I'm going to be on Accutane but my derm wasn't too specific about that. My question is did you pay for both doctor visit and blood tests? If that's not the case then $155 (w/o the blood tests) a month for just talking with the derm is INSANE and RIDICULOUS!

Thanks,

JiN

I live in the suburbs of Chicago. It was my first visit to the derm. If I didn't have insurance is would of cost me $180 but I have insurance so it's costs $155. But I find it insane if it costs that much for a visit every month because I have to see the derm every month (Accutane). But I don't know if he inlcuded the blood test payment because he is partners with this blood test lab and he already got me this blood test form all filled out and has like this ID number.

It's obscene, yes, that we don't have some sort of single-payer healthcare system like our European and Canadian friends on the board.

But this is America baby! Where everyone stands tall on their own two feet. And pays their own way. Up by your bootstraps.

I just got done shelling out over 5k for Accutane and doctors visits/bloodwork. And as sick as it made me (to part with the cash), I'd gladly do it again for a shot at permanently clear skin.

I've actually got a savings account with just enough in it to pay for a second course if it comes to that. It's completely off limits -- for emergency Accutane course only.

Be prepared. That's my motto.

Hi Elsa,

I live in the NW Suburbs of Chicago. Have you heard of Schaumburg....where Woodfield Mall is? That's where I see my derm. I think the $155 I payed for was for the visit and blood tests....but I'm not sure. But aren't first visits usually expensive?? Hopefully I'll pay $100 in the future with blood tests.

::cough::

Makes me glad that I live in Canada where I can just walk into a derm/doctor's office and not pay a cent ^_^.

Until, of course, I have to pay for the prescription -_-.

At least something is reasonable in southern cal. I pay $90 per visit including the blood tests. We could have gone through the HMO but I don't trust them as much.

it all comes down to your insurance company and the policy you are under. i pay $25 for all specialist visits whether it be derm, eye-doctor or what have you. my insurance company is healthnet, its pretty damn good, i pay $20 for brand name tane (months supply) and $10 for amnesteem (generic month supply)
