Ice pick scars?

Hey guys,

I just found out about acne.org yesterday and I thought I might me able to get some good advice in such a big community. I˜m gonna share a few pictures of my skin with you in hope to get some good recommendations what to do about my skin issues. Also please excuse my english, I˜m from Germany and therefore it˜s not the best. Thank you in advance for your help!

As you can see in these pictures my skin isn˜t perfect at all. I have what I think are large pores but I also think that inbetween those are some ice pick scars especially on the cheeks and on my forehead . I˜d say they aren˜t very deep but they do bother me. My questions are: Are these even ice pick scars? If yes, what treatment would you recommend for my kind of scars. Does acne.org offer producs, that would help me reduce my large pores and see improvement with my scars? If not, what are products I should give a shot?

PS: The photos are very detailed, my skin looks a bit nicer in real life.

Thanks for your help! :)

Greetings from Germany

I dont see any open or enlarged pores which in a way is good news as them type can be pita to treat.

i see scarred pores and ice picks, maybe some smaller boxcar.the best treatment for you is tca cross where the tca can be applied to the bed of the scar, basicly in the scar.several treatments depending on how your skin heals might be required, the correct laser type but i got 0 experience with laser but tca peeling st medium strength/depth with plenty if healing time inbetween will benefit your scarring, again many of them are required.

Thanks for the Advice! I thought about the tca cross method but I only can identify 3-5 deep enough ice pick scars on each cheek so the rest should be treated with a tca chemical peeling? How high should the concentration be? Im thinking of starting of with 15% and maybe working my way up to 25% if my scars dont get any better. What about glycolic acid peeling? Would it help and how high would the concentration have to be to see improvement? Should I also use any producs on my face other than the chemical peeling? Atm I only wash my face with water and moisturize it.

Any reason why you don't ask these questions in a german forum? They may recommend doctors/clinic near you.

Simply because there is no forum anywhere as near as this one and it would take weeks to get some replies. I also know two good doctors in my area so thats not part of my problem.

There are a few posters from Germany on here. Welcome to the boards. Reading that FAQ link would be a great start. All the best

Since your scars are shallow and they exhibit jagged edges, I believe you would be a good candidate for laser resurfacing. I recommend fully ablative erbium laser (not fractional or fraxel).

If you do peels use tca and start off weak, around 15% and work up to 25%.assuming you heal ok from 25%,work up to around 30-35%,give at least 6 week minimum between the 25%+ strength peels for healing, preferably even 8 weeks+.the magic is in the healing.

speaking from experience tca peels over a year should/will work wonders for your skin.

as its been pointed out the correct laser type should/will work.

Thanks for all your answers! I think i will go with the tca peeling and some tca cross procedure before that to even out the scars a bit.
What should I look for in a doctor / clinic when looking forward to a tca treatment?

Do you think I could perform a tca peeling (15% at first) at home by my own? What do I have to be very careful about when i do it at home?

Minimal ice pick scars, fully ablative erbium if you can handle downtime. Your skin type is good for this treatment. If you are apprehensive high density 1927 Fraxel 20 mj, 20 passes to cover 96% of treated skin will give you noticeable results. Or alternative INFINI RF with PRP 2-3 sessions, but due to depth of pores, PIH and girds expected.... your concerns can be addressed ... focal TCA only to deeper scars (3-4 at most). Wish you well. Obviously see a specialist for these off label treatments.

Any update to this? I have the same scar/pore problem. Did you try TCA Cross? I've done a few TCA home peels up to 17.5% (always one layer) as well as about 5 sessions of Microneedling using a Dr. Pen (I've since bought a Derminator), but haven't noticed much of a difference.

Any update on this? Did you ever try anything? And if so what did you try? Thanks!
