How do I know if I'm purging

I am on day 17 of a new skincare routine. I changed my routine because my skin was red and irritated with many bumps all over my face. The first week my skin seemed to be improving because it was so much less red and irritated and the small bumps that I already had were coming to whiteheads. In the middle of week two onto week 3, I started experiencing pimples on my cheeks springing up overnight but healing rather quickly. I am not sure if this is purging or how long it should last. Please help.
