This is my skin. (See pictures) I'm 17 years old, female, and I have been     dealing with acne since I was 12, but it properly started when I was 14.

A brief background to my skin: I  used Duac when I was about 15. It helped with my acne, but caused my skin texture to react leaving me with an orange peel-like texture, large pores. I think it is also due to over-exfoliation.
I was prescribed differin later on, honestly didn't really do much at all. Just made my skin dry, the pore size stayed the same.

(Ive tried DML lotion too. Applied it thickly like 6 times a day and it did nothing.)

I have been dealing with this condition for 2 years now. I had poreless skin at about age 14. I am certain it is not to do with genetics either, both my family and parents don't have large pores.

I will be going to try Paula's Choice 10% niacinamide from an FAQ that suggested it on here. Reviews are relatively good regarding the pore size, many saying their skin texture returns back to normal.

But please anything you know is appreciated!! I am stuck. What's out there that I can use so my skin can return to normal? I am honestly so desperate. I have read all the forums there is out there.

Oh my god, my skin looks so similar to that, especially in daylight, ughhhh...like the purplish brown sickly color with the pores like that...and you've dealt with this for two years...geez that just makes me feel even more depressed about my situation.
theres no way I'll make it two years, I've already lost so many years to another issue in my life, and I just want To start living before I'm old dammit.

Ugh sorry, sorry this happened to you :///
what do your parents and dermatologist say??

and how long and often did you use the duac?
same question for the differin?
when did you stop both?

Did your skin burn at all or anything like that?
What other forms of exfoliation have you used and how often?
Did this happen gradually or overnight?

This is certainly a horrific thing to happen, I understand...we've just got to find away to reverse it

Well, I haven't been to my dermatologist in a while. After what's happened...I'm not sure what they can even prescribe me. I wish I could just take it all back and just have the acne to deal with. I don't know what to do.

I made a review of the Duac on here, if you'd like to check it out. It's very in depth there. I was on it for over 7 months.

Regarding your question about if my skin burned, YES! I remember one night my skin burnt like hell, it became all red and inflamed and I'd never seen anything like it. My skin was the most      sensitive it had ever been in all my life. Using products would turn my skin into a burning, itchy, red, blotchy inflamed mess. It was dreadful. I reckon it was from that day on, my pores became damaged, and how they look now to this day:(

The amount of times I am depressed, self conscious and upset over this      condition is beyond me. I don't know why I haven't been to my doctor about it, probably because I know I'll get upset and there won't be that much they can do...at least that's how I feel.

Ive tried to ignore it, use mineral powder to disguise the hatred for my skin but I can't live like this anymore.

I was on Differin for only a couple months. That was doing shitall for my skin, drying it out and sucking up the last amount of moisture it had left in it, +  It was just making me even more depressed.

As for the exfoliation, I was using things such as abrasive exfoiliants and my no7 electric skincare brush which I will never be using again. I Feel like something.  trigured my sensitive skin to become the horrible mess it is now and I'm guessing it has been damaged in some sort of way because of the awful burning I experienced. As for when I noticed it, I honestly don't know, it must've been gradual but I know for a fact that at the start of age 15, my skin didn't look like this.

As for stress. I suppose you could say I get stressed quite a bit...im a teenager, my hormones are all over the place and there are personal issues at home which don't make life any easier. Especially when your practically a carer for one of your parents..sighh

I understand your frustration.  me too I have large pores and they get clogged fast.  I do scrub with honey and sea salt and pinch of baking soda(sugar irritates skin)I like to mix with my face cleanser and every 2 days. as for toner I really like camphor spirit(any Slavic market carry in pharmacy section) I always finish with simple moisturizer.  it's from inside too that makes a huge difference!  very healing tea is nettle leaves and raspberry leaves mix equal part and drink through out the day (make big batch)(side affect of this tea better mood/beautiful skin) avoid avoid non organic milk,
blessings!

Do you use any type of exfoliation? I would say exfoliating 1-2 a week and you should see a difference. Also moisturizer! And when you put it on leave your face wet :) Hope this helps!

I used to exfoiliate my skin 1-2 times a week. Worryingly enough I think it just makes my condition worse, no matter how gentle the exfoiliator is:( I've done it religiously over the years and                exfoiliating has not helped one bit with the texture of my skin. Thankyou for your advice anyhow :)

Stay strong. I am hoping others can offer help as to what can improve the skin or get it back to normal maybe?

Yeah I'm trying to stay strong, I'm finding it increasingly difficult as time goes on though.
Anyhow,,
I've decided to try out The Ordinary skincare and have purchased a product which has a 2% retinoid and it's only £8!!! This is their new advanced          technology, they also offer a 1% retinol for £5 but I wanted to try the 2% which they recommended is better. There is sooo much info about their products and they offer a regime of when best to apply and in conjunction with other products as some should not be mixed together on the face due to it conflicting with acids/creams/vitamin C etc.

It was introduced to me by Wayne Goss on YouTube who knows all there is to the best skincare brands for people with problematic and acne prone skin.
They are a new innovative brand          recently on the market and offer high end ingredients at a fraction of the price!  I highly recommend anyone to try them out. I will update when I have tried out the product and keep everyone posted.

You can find their whole skincare brand online: https://www.victoriahealth.com/brand/The-Ordinary/1053

The product I purchased is available here: https://www.victoriahealth.com/product/Advanced-Retinoid-2/12195/brand/The-Ordinary/1053

If anyone wants to watch the videos I found, I'll leave them here:

Guysss I really need help because in all honesty I think I'm kidding myself when I say that buying these products will change my skin... It seems like my skin is soo damaged that it's gonna take a lot more than some niacinamide and  retinol to change the texture of it. I'm beginning to feel completely helpless now. I just want it to go away. I've had enough. I'm just stuck in a nightmare with no light at the end of the tunnel.            Ahhhh :(

Shit I'm so sorry to hear that. I feel you completely, just staying indoors all the time n playing video games because you don't have to face living or existing lol:/

I get bad anxiety when I'm outside, I find it reallllly hard, especially being at college and having to face people. I wear makeup so it helps a bit but tbf I wish I didn't have to wear it just to feel slightly better about myself. When it's on my face I just can't wait to get home and take it all off.

Literally don't know what to do, I get    really upset about it and I'm just stuck.
I truly hope things get better for you, you seem very strong considering how long you've been battling with it. We  can't give up though hey?

I'm sorry to hear you feel so down about your skin and I can 100% relate. I'm 21 and my skin has gone from bad to worse since I was around 10 I would say. My anxiety over my skin meant I stopped seeking help when I was about 14 because I couldn't bear to go to a specialist without my make up on. How crazy is that.

Anyway like you I have just a million blocked pores. My forehead, my nose, my cheeks and even around my ears and my lips. I wish I could go back to my 12 year old self and tell her to stop freaking out about her handful of spots- If only she could see my skin on a good day now.

There is only one time in my life where my pores seem to have looked better and my acne non existent and it's a bit tmi but if it could help you it's worth telling. When I was about 17 I suffered with horrendous UTIs. They were near constant and I would drink water all the time to try and help. I would drink a glass of water when I woke up, a few bottles in college (maybe 4 throughout the day), a glass or 2 when I got home, about 3-4 glasses in between dinner and bedtime. After a while my skin was plumped and pores so reduced! Reduced oil production, more even complexion- it was amazing (too bad I was too stressed out with my health concerns to really care!) It's difficult to stick to now I'm better and I don't really think about drinking so much water but when I do I really notice the difference. Over the years no amount of products have consistently helped my skin. I think they have just contributed to my weird, dry/oily, blocked and lumpy skin. It's what I have drank and what I have ate that has really made the difference. Avoiding juice, milk, alcohol and drinking plenty of water and eating loads of fruit of veg and minimising sugar intake is so good for skin. I also find that in the summer using an oil free sun cream (I use clinique sun cream for the face) and getting an hour of sun on my face a day really improved the appearance of my skin too. Not easy now in February but next month I will be back in my garden with any warm day we get. Different things for different people I suppose but these are just a few things I have learned for myself over the last few years. I'm also starting to see the affect of all the creams and cleansers I have used over the years too now- I have fine lines were my skin has been so dried out. At the age of 21 I cannot afford to make this worse it's just too depressing. So yeah water, healthy food and multivitamins are working best for me now. Slowly but surely.

Good Luck! You are not alone :)

They look like small blackheads but still not fully formed. Have you ever think about using this combination:
Aztec Healing Clay Mask (google or youtube for the formula) + Take Zinc pill or Collagen.

I'm pretty sure they're not blackheads, because if they were there'd be slight bumps in my skin texture. These are HOLES, my skin has got tiny pim-pricks in them. I think the oiliness on my face at the time just makes them look dark in colour. I do have sebaceous filaments on my nose and chin however. I haven't thought about using that combination no, but I'm going to the doctor tomorrow so will see what they say.

Thankyou so much for your response! It  honestly the same with me, I'm so anxious about going out the house without makeup on and tbh I'm scared to go talk to the doctor about it. It's not so much fearing talking to them about it,but more if they really will do anything to help me. I know how you feel when you say you wish you'd just left those spots alone when you were younger:( It only causes more problems down the line..as we are both now victims of.

I'll try drinking a ton of water...it obviously can't hurt but will probably make me wee a lot hahahaha. I would say my diet isn't too bad, I don't eat any meat (for about 1 and a half years, I prefer  being a pescatarian)  and I eat my fruit and vedge. I do eat cheese a lot, but I know for certain it's just not the cause. And there really is no actual evidence that diet really does make a difference... you see all these people alter their diets drastically and it does no good, but then you also hear other people who say it helped their skin. Who knows.

Thankyou again
p.s I'll be updating regularly if you want to stay posted! ❤

UPDATE:
OK SO IM PISSSSSED OFF
So, I went to see the doctor which I was fucking dreading, not because I didn't want to go in but because I knew they wouldn't help me with my situation, and well, guess what!!? They haven't.

They have prescribed me differin AGAIN!!?? At first I thought it was something different, something I hadn't tried but nope, it's differin 0.1% gel. I've already used this SHIT before and it did nothing, only difference is that it was a gel, not a cream like I used before.

When I asked about having a skin         referral, they told me they cannot grant me it because my skin does not meet their criteria, it's not "that bad". I have come such a long way with my acne and it's almost gone, but it's still there. The remains of it are left still after years and years of fighting. They have done shit all to help me basically.
And guys, I really don't want to give up. But thanks to my GP, I'm already halfway there. It fucking sucks because practically half my life I've suffered with this.

I've been dragged to the doctors to be told what I knew would happen all along, they offered virtually no help and I've only made matters worse myself. God I feel so shit, I knew more about it then the fucking doctor!!! :(

Maybe try to leave ur skin alone for a while ? All those acne treatments are very harsh on the skin which can cause dehydration which causes more oil, also larger pores and the oil gets trapped resulting in more breakouts, remember ur skin before u used all products? Try with only lukewarm water or cold, and maybe just use a simple moisturiser. I cant do it because my acne is so severe that i need accutane, google 'acid mantle and products that damage it' also how you could restore it. You can talk with me if you want help, ive battled with sevre acne for 10 years, im gone trough all that you have. Bp and retinoids also gave me huge pores, with a constant redness and acne persisted. Focus on a good diet, stress less about ur skin and avoid too harsh skincare products on somewha damaged skin. Let it regulate itself for a while. Im here to help, im feeling kinda hopeles too but acceptance is the key. Edited by Greenacne95

I guess you're right, however I've done this before in the past and it did nothing for me, just made matters worse sadly.

I have been prescribed tetracycline tablets for my skin texture, although I don't really know what it does. I know people have found it help them with their acne, except I don't have bad acne anymore. Can anyone help?

Definitely be gentle. More damage will only make things worse. Are there improvements so far?

Yes I have been very gentle. No spots or acne outbreaks, just scars. Skin texture still the same though:( seriously getting fed up now. Took Tetracycline for about 1 and a half months and didn't see much progress. Just got my next batch so will continue as I've heard can take a while to notice a change. Still very miserable in regards to this awful skin texture though. Gets me down daily

Sorry i didnt mean to just say hey lol but ive been dealing with the same thing from retin a and i can say it has gotten slightly better over time.. mainly not doing anything has helped the most but one thing i have been considering trying is using a derma stamp with the smallest needles (.5 mm) to attempt to stimulate collagen in the epidermis. Ive read it has worked for some people but of course everyone is different. From what ive concluded retin a or similar vitamin A products strip layers off the epidermis similar to a chemical peel or fraxel laser (you can get orange peel skin from this too) and the goal is to thicken the outer layer of skin again. Id definitely be careful though and look more into it then take my word for it. I havent even tried it yet but i will soon.
