Hi again BA, I feel like from what I've seen so far, no one in my area really offers Sculptra and if they do there's no online reviews etc for the performing Doctor which makes life hard :( I think sculptra sounds promising its just finding someone to perform it - I dont want to waste money going to someone who isn't an expert in the field and then 'thinking' it doesnt work because the injector was crap, you know? Life is so hard! I haven't heard of clear and brilliant before, any success stories or reviews you can show me? I'm going to take a wild guess and assume no one in South Australia would perform that either.

I saw from another post you think saline injections do nothing for scars. So you don't think they remodel/build collagen or anything like that?

Thank you :)

Also, BA, when i research sculptra and look at before/afters, i can't seem to find ANY that are scarring related - and the ones I have found which are aging related etc dont look very dramatic which makes me fear the result wont be worth doing as I feel I need a dramatic change to feel my scars have improved - these results look very subtle?

Thanks!

@91baby Google search in the image section "hiv lipoatrophy sculptra," yes it works and it works well (that isn't subtle). It can be used for minor collagen building or a stronger treatments depending how it's injected. But yes ordinary Sculptra is subtle and it's a long lasting slow building filler. OF course you would not see any that are scar related, it's not used for most cases HA is. But acne scar suffers have premature aging. Please don't go by pictures, 90% of them are Photoshop lies or best cases out of thousands. I only suggested it to you because of your widespread textural scarring and you mentioned plumpness and collagen. But do what you think is best.

Thankyou! Ive had a look at what you suggested and woah ! Sadly im having trouble finding anyone who administers sculpra where i live :( i get it though, if someone could be injected under the whole scarred area it would plump it and stretch/smooth the scars. Does anything else have this same affect that you know of? Or just sculptra?

Thank you!

@91baby Call around and ask, plastic surgeons and dermatologists. I know of sources but in SYD BRIS MEL etc... Not everyone injects it. Do you live in Perth I forget. Looks like plastics do it. At your young age they will only do a vial or so at a time. But is build able. Also search for "PLLA filler perth"

Sure you can do Voluma, with deep injections for volume, but most don't get enough. 1 tablespoon is 5ml, and many only get 1ml.

There is fat of course but must be injected deeply, and has variable results, operating room costs to extract it.

@91baby huge improvement. So Weekly or biweekly 50% glycolic acid peel can do wonders. I think now you should stop looking at your face using angle lighting if it affects your confidence - because really - your skin is good and you are so pretty. IMO even people with just large pores can look unflattering when light hits the skin at certain angles.

Im in adelaide :) i will start calling around though i find that if i call or email their response is always about coming in for a consult..... annoying! Why does age determine how much they'll use? I found a good review on voluma so ill be researching that now too! Thanks for the guidance once again! :)

@91baby Oh, looks lovely. So your a ways from Mel, SYD, Gold coast etc. There has to be someone down there that does injections, they don't even have to be a acne scar specialist. Just a expert injector. You want it over dilute (water), and injected throughout your cheeks under the scar to make them plump.

Have you called around the plastic surgeon's offices? Or google'd sculptra or plla Adelaide. A bunch came up with ""sculptra  Adelaide.""

They seem to do it https://www.azuridev2.com.au/faba/pricing/

http://www.findglocal.com/AU/Adelaide/306864962850889/Regenesis-Cosmetic-Surgery

https://www.cosmosclinic.com.au/face/collagen-stimulators-injections/

The price is per vial, ... your young, and will probably only need a vial. A vial per decade they say (but with acne scars that is not applicable). Because this filler is used on older laddies normally who need many vials, but it works wonderfully for our purpose.  Start with that, wait 3-6 months, then get another as needed. The filler lasts a long time. It's a deep injection for collagen stimulation. It's not a instant volumizer. Cool if you rather get Voluma.

Oh wow really, you think? I wouldnt go that far but thank you, its always nice to see comments like yours! :) even though my goal will always be to have perfectly smooth skin, my aim for now is just to make everything as smooth as possible and concentrating on what i CAN change (volume, texture, etc) I want so badly to be able to go barefaced, thats a big goal of mine.. no makeup ! Fingers crossed i get there eventually! Thanks again for the kind words :)

I just wanted to point out that when i started using retin a, i would always put it on in the morning before my makeup and never found my skin dry or flaky, now that i put it on before i go to sleep my skin is very flaky and peely, i kind of like it because i know its working now.. just like crazy exfoliation everyday. I wish i had this from the very beginning! I dont think ive gotten any new scars from the retin a like ive seen other people complain about either..

Just my 2 cents to anyone interested :)

You can mix retionoids with moisturizer like CETAPHIL and then apply evenly. The efficacy isn't reduced but the irritation is. There's studies on this and even Dr David Lim has suggested this before.

@91baby Wow, I spent the last 30 minutes reading the posts in this forum. And you gave me hopes that I might improve my scars and even make the smaller ones disappear. Unfortunately for me, I still look like you did in your first photos you posted on this thread. I just wanna say that your progress is amazing and much respect to you and your patience :smileys_n_people_115:. And as someone wrote before in this thread, the 20s should be the best time etc ( This really broke my soul because that's what I am telling myself since I got into college: this is the time where I must have fun, do things for my career. But right now I am just obsessed with my scars and isolate from others, not meeting a girl, not going to parties and I'd just wish that the area that is scarred to be smaller... just that :( ). Right now I am trying to find a Dr. that does subcision in Romania and it is really, really hard to find. As I am a student, it is really difficult for me financially to go to a closer country to a Dr. that is well known for scar treatments.

It is so incredibly hard not to obsess about something that is on your face for the world to see - i get it, believe me! Ive found the days i dont look at myself as much are the days i am happiest!! Crazy isnt it! I do believe subcision is a great stepping stone (not the be all or end all) but definitely needed to do some of the lifting/raising before smoothing the surface so fingers crossed you find someone!

I just wanted to update on my right side after consistently using retin a at night (im only updating on right side as the right has more surface issues where as the left has deeper scarring)

I believe it to be helping immensely :) but am definitely looking into voluma/sculptra for further results.

You look AMAZING. I want to start using Retinol nightly for my skin, maybe it will help me slowly to get rid at least of the really tiny scars. You got this!

Thanks for everyone's kind words ! Im coming into a bit of money in the next couple of months so ill be giving voluma a go and continuing peels and retin a in the meantime. I just did a 70% glycolic peel lastnight after not getting much result from the last one (no flaking etc) this time it burned, i used an ear bud and layered it a couple of times, it seemed to penetrate moreso in one area on my left cheek which still feels hot to the touch since lastnight - this is definitely the most intense peel ive done thus far - im thinking because i used to be doing biweekly glycolic peels my skin was becoming used to it but now that ive had a break from the peels and just been using the retin a, when ive now used the 70% again its reacted with my skin harsher. Nothing worrying, just more intense/hot feeling than usual! Similar to a sunburn. Layered a couple times and left on for 6 minutes. We'll see what the outcome is next week :)

I just found a very unflattering (cringe) photo of my left side and just wanting some thoughts - is this volume loss? I dont seem to have much volume loss, if any on my right side but the left side definitely seems different in scarring. Any advice would be great :)Screenshot_20190425-205307_Messenger.jpg.e861db5c8db06081f9d5744f6b9a5878.jpg

@91baby This is surface textural scarring. The only area I see that could use a bit of cannula subcsion is by the right hairline area - along the bangs.

Your doing peels and this is fine, continue this. You can bump up to tca if you want.

I would definitely do filler with you weather voluma with enough to create some change but ideally Sculptra throughout the cheek area.

I might do a round of rf needling OR angled co2.

Finish with resurfacing of texture: A deep peel, Sciton fully ablative laser resurfacing, J plasma, etc for the textural part.

@beautifulambition i have a question i hope you can answer! Ive seen a lot about the spectra laser peel lately, would this be used for more superficial skin issues rather than atrophy? Looks like a convenient treatment as theres no downtime etc :)

@91baby A spectra peel is for acne and people with perfect skin but want a small "treatment." Non-ablative lasers are useless. Low down time = no results, they do this for the perfect lunch time spa goer's who want a quick treatment and they are already perfect. Sadly you want results, ... the treatments have down time. The lowest down time treatment I would say is filler for many.

@beautifulambition thank you for your reply, i will completely get that idea out of my head then! Thanks again! I have another question if you dont mind - ive been reading up on adapalene (differin) in 0.3% and am thinking it will be more beneficial than continuing to use retin a, do you have any thoughts on that? Thanks :)

Having a bad mental day today guys. Over the last week or so i started really perking up about my skin. My skin looked good in selfies, in my hand held compact mirror and even in the cars side mirror.. my confidence was up again! Then all it takes is to see a photo that someone else took of me to have my confidence come crashing down.

Why dont i look the same in a mirror in comparison to a photo taken of me? Why does my compact mirror show less scarring and someone elses photo shows every single hint of a scar?!

Ugh :(

@91baby I know this is a post to convey displeasure. That's ok. This is very normal. We all have our bad sides (look in the mirror and find your good angle that is what those on the camera do and they use that angle and face often to appear more attractive). Secondly many famous photos have 3 filters on them or are photo shopped. Lightening (shadows) is what makes things worse, dehydration, stress. You can plump up your skin with things like a HA serum or moisturizer for plumping. We spoke about filler back channel and a deeper peel.

I hate selfies they are supper up close and in your face, ... talk about micro- issues showing up.

Have her delete the photo ;-P or decline taking one next time if it causes you issues. But you can practice at home how to look your best for camera lightening, angle, expression.

Thankyou once again for your reply! And for replying so promptly to my messages! I must confuse you and everyone else so much because im jumping from wanting to do one procedure to another (i dont know what i want or need clearly) which is why i try to take in your advice as much as possible.

Here is my final plan of attack - im going to be looking into a dr who can help me with sculptra to plump up my skin from below and stretch out the scars that way (my scars flatten when stretched), in the meantime im going to continue with peels on my right side only (my left side needs some lifting still so i am attacking those deeper scars with a single needle - first time was lastnight ill post a pic below).

With the peels im going to try alternate between salicylic and glycolic and work my way upto tca.

Lastnight i pricked at some scars with an insulin needle (i did hear some slight popping sounds like they say) i only did about 4 just to see what happens. Left the blood there for a bit then wiped off and didnt apply anything until this morning when i applied my retin a. Wouldnt have a clue if the needle is wide enough/if i went deep enough to make a difference but time will tell and its a tolerable/easy procedure so thats a plus :)
