Accutane: Prescription Changed...

Recommended Posts

I have just completed my first month of 80mg/day of accutane(generic=Amnesteen). I just got my prescription filled for the 2nd month and they have given me Clavaris which is a different brand of Accutane, they said Amnesteen is no longer being produced. My question is will there be any difference in effectiveness and will i go through the side effects again like I did when I first started taking Amnesteen?

anyone know why they stopped producing amnesteen?

I don't think there's a difference. Both have the same drug ingredient. My brother is using Claravis and it's very effective. So I'm guessing that all those generic brands have the same ingredient and effect as Accutane.

They are the same thing - -different named generic versions of Accutane. I didn't realize that the Amnesteen was no longer on the market. My doctor did recently tell me, however, that Sortret bought-out Accutane. It's all the same drug. Don't worry.

generics are all exactly the same as the brand-name version. However, there is some controversy over efficacy because of the different packaging (not the boxes, bottles, whatever, but the actual coating of the pills themselves). Some say that the bio-availability of brand-name drugs is better because they are better packaged and dissolve more slowly/faster/whatever needs to happen. Probably nonsense, but I myself only started clearing really well after I had my doc write "no substitutions" on my accutane prescription. That might have just been timing though.
