Dr David Lim Reviews

TCA cross will work for box scars.
Just do a pubmed search, they use it to treat chickenpox scars too.

But because you have to cover a wider area than a icepick scar, there is more damage
1. You get more redness and hyperpigmentation (if you have higher fitzpatrick skin), quoted 6 months to go away in the studies.
2. You can afford 7-10 days downtime? For how many sessions?

Try subcising first to detach the teethering before TCA.

Thank you very much I'll give it a try. BTW, did you do it yourself the Subcision and TCA or you have a doctor? Can you recommend someone who is excellent. My previous doctor was Dr. David Loh at Wheelock Place he didn't improve my scars.

Jack

I can't recommend you anyone here. The doctors i been to I can't comment on their skill, i received mainly laser treatment and only 1 session of subcision.

Subcision i did mainly on my own, almost every week in fact until i was so sure there was no more teethering under the skin.
I even took tranexamic acid that stabilizes blood clot and prevent it from breaking down such that the bruise will remain longer and then get organized to fill up the scar, however it didn't make the blood clots last longer.
I think subcision is probably the most worthwhile to do for the first step because the effect is immediate if part of the depressed skin is due to mechanical teethering
2nd most worthwhile is fillers, effect immediate but problem with longevity, and the stimulation of collagen is also very variable
I will report later whether this filler i use can last
The rest laser, TCA all these takes months to show effect and the collagen regeneration effect is also variable

TCA cross i just did it myself
I also found out i can cross pores on my t zone with 100% and have almost no downtime, i just press down hard for 1.5 seconds with a toothpick and the small scabs actually can be covered with my sunblock
I also made 10-15 % TCA solution for superficial  peel and also peel off any hyperpigmented areas, then went up to 35% also for a medium depth peel

Ive posted this on another thread but im going to put it here too because this is ridiculous.

I live in brisbane.

" I personally know people who have been his patients and have had no results. Ive even met people who hes scarred. This can happen under any doctor.

Literally all of his realself reviews are so blantantly, painfully, obviously fake. If you look at the users, theyre all ghost profiles. Even the way theyre written is so sensationalised and unnatural. Its all marketing. Ive only ever seen one independent user review with actual before and after pictures. Its unbelievable how many people just eat it all up.

if people really believe he can do something so magically and starkly different with the identical lasers/techniques/peel solutions all other skilled plastic surgeons and derms have access to, youre delusional.

The only person calling him world reknown is his advertising team and the people online who parrot their advertising like yourself smh"

Look, i understand how badly we all want to believe in miracle cures but seriously you guys.....

You actively sought out all Davin Lim's postings & copy pasted your response( liking all people who did not like him). Why find all Davin Lim's posts, post the same thing,  with no proof. People on the internet today come up with all sorts of stuff and have no facts.

I am not affiliated with Davin nor do I get any gain from him other than respect for him trying to do something for the acne scar suffers, few have. IF you have useful information (white papers, doctors advice, technology or reviews please inform the forum).

Who are your friends? Where are their reviews on real self, anyone can post(I don't see them). Where are their pictures as proof. You have never posted a review with your proof about Davin Lim or any other doctor who you "feel" is so wonderful.  Did he refuse to treat you , or was he too expensive, or ...turn you away for some reason?

He cannot defend himself here so I think that's a little unfair don't you to make accusations without proof.

I do not see reviews in your posts of any procedures you have done. So your brand new to the forums.

We like Davin because he gives information freely, ... these other Doctors only care about money, they don't even specialize in one specific thing "scars." Go on his Youtube he tells you how he really does the work, that is gracious, it's not a sales pitch. He knows we can goto our own doctors and have them do it. He is doing it to give knowledge to the community. I live in California home of plastic surgery and I don't know one doctor giving their "secrets" $$$$ away. They also do scar treatment for a small percentage of their practice not all day long as a focus.

If he was such a liability why would Fraxel make him the ambassador in Australia, he speaks on lasers around the world. Companies don't like to take on liability.

ALL DOCTORS have messed up people. This is a gamble. Energy devices are a gamble. Asian (your username) and ethnic skin types are easier to mess up. People expect lasers to heal them and be a quick fix, ... sorry not how it works. Lasers are the end of the road after you try everything else and have nothing to loose. They will not fix you. Only give a small percentage of improvement. Start with microneedling, retin a, subcision, acid peels, fillers, etc and then move on to energy devices.

No other doctor which I have researched quite a few do multiple lasers in one treatment, this is a new form of treatment and does make him special. He also is a geek you can tell he is looking for the newest cure as well, watch the videos.

If he has done something wrong please inform me so I can be educated, but I will not be swayed by hearsay and feelings, too much of that in the acne scar world.

I agree with you man one of few doctors thats gives out good information and can get results i dont get why some dont seem to like him.

I'm just calling you out because you are trying way too hard to minimise my experience with him and now calling me names? Lol ok. Yep I was angry and left him a heap of reviews on ratemds, I own that. The escalation occurred after he made some dishonest comments online and posted some fake reviews and it continued on like that. How about throwing shade on all his fake positive reviews in between mine and in the past? Anyway that's over now since he finally gave me a refund, medical records (after 4 months).

Gee bringing up my tattoo again. Really? Are you going to say I caused a bad tattoo through poor healing as well?

Yes I saw a local dermatologist last week, he said "I don't agree with what he's doing. You don't need to go that deep for results". Show me another person who had these settings on their EYELIDS...

I'll stop talking about it when I feel like it thanks. You made a comment above about proof and I have provided plenty of info about poor outcomes/poor aftercare/zero discussion of risks/disapproval of other doctors etc.

I haven't followed the full story here but I'm glad all of your negative reviews at least got you a full refund. One could see it as obsessed but if that's what it took for you to receive a refund and your medical records then you gotta do what you gotta do. Ideally this could have been settled privately with him but if that doesn't work no doubt taking it public will be more likely to hold doctors accountable. The thing is even the best of the best doctors have bad reviews online so I'm not sure how seriously people take them. Is it at least over now? I am a fan of Dr. Lim's work and youtube videos however even good doctors can make horrible mistakes and an overly aggressive treatment on your eyelids was definitely one. I'm curious, if you had such a bad consultation (as per one of your reviews) why did you go ahead with the procedure? Best wishes for future treatments. Obviously you would not want anything aggressive ever again.

Hi guys. I saw him about 5 years ago before he started making videos which made him famous.
My experience was negative. I gave him +$100 for initial consultation and all he said was to look at the website. I also talked about my previous acne treatment in Korea and he said Korea is the best place for skin treatment and if it didn't work, there wasn't much to be done about my skin. It was waste of my money and he didn't give any solution/help to my skin condition.

I was researching on scar treatment then I came across his name online. It seems crazy how his reviews changed from 1-2 to 4 stars on Google after the Youtube Video and people calling him the best without even seeing him.

I just want you guys to judge it yourself based on before&after treatment photos. Some of them were fishy because the scar treatment pics have different lighting in befo&after, and you know how important lighting is.. If you look at the angle where the light comes from and where it creates shadow, his after photos lights come perpendicular from skin surface, whereas befo pics' light is at angled to really show the depth of scars (NOT pigmentation scars). I also read someone's comments about how he tried to fake the scarring results by altering lights. (I think i read this from google). People from different countries should STOP giving him 5 stars when they haven't even seen him!! It gives high hopes to other people who look at review stars, and you can tell that the doctor is checking every review by commenting on it.

He may be good with other treatments, as they do work, but acne scars (indented) are very very difficult to be treated. It is up to you if you go see him, but I think he's not worth the visit if you come from another country, especially the visa cost is high if you want to stay longer than 3 months. If I were you, I would rather go to Korea because it's very advanced in skin cosmetics (David said this himself) and a lot cheaper as it is a competitive market. Language would be an issue, but it's cheaper, more practitioners with minimal waiting period. Downside is language problem and qualification is not necessarily.

My personal opinion as a local,, he is money driven+hype from social media. His reputation definitely changed drastically. He even changed the practice's name from "westside dermatology" (which had bad reviews) to "laser lift". you can still see the review on google. I would only recommend him if you are local and rich.

This is my very personal opinion on acne scar treatment. I like this website and I hope it helps you guys.

I think there are other doctors that are better than him, but in Australia he only does acne scars. Best way to see if the reviews are real is to email or contact the people on the sites. I think Korea leads the way. Besides, he always advises people to see other dermatologist even in Australia like Prof Greg Goodman. You can see he's trying to build a community throughout the world from the UK through to Asia and Europe, and even Australia. Looks like his intentions are good. If its pure marketing- why would he recommend other doctors? Plus he always says he's not the best, not even close 'he learns from the best'. Think its best Zug Zug if you have doubts, just contact all the patients who have given reviews, esp. on real self.com, this should clarify if reviews are fake or not. Videos help people understand there are more than one way to remove or reduce acne scaring, and his cover everything from surgery though to peels, lasers and devices.

I would personally see Prof CL Goh. This guy taught Davin Lim, and looking at his website and all he blatantly says that Prof is much better than him at treating scars in Asians. Like eurasianaussie, I too know patients who have seen him. He is very upfront, and a perfectionist at what he does. If he does not get the promised results he keeps treating for free. Not many Doctors does that. Something about pride in the his field of work. At the end he delivers what is promised.

Best way to sort out reviews are real or fake, as mentioned before is to contact the people from reputable sources like real self.com. Email them politely - both the good and bad reviews pertaining to your problem, in this case acne scarring, asking their own personal opinion. I think most are willing to share on a private email rather than a public forum.

This is so true.  Dr. Lim does a great service by making really in depth videos that break down all the concepts about acne scar revision for patients.  That's where he really excels, and he's one of the first who's demystified the whole process in a way that regular people can understand.  He's even stated many times himself that he is doing the exact same thing others have taught him.   He's even discouraged people from flying all the way to Brisbane to get treated.

As a longtime lurker on this forum, I've seen the names of certain doctors get elevated and then disappear overtime.  They get hyped up and then someone gets damaged, and they are no longer recommended.  Years ago it was dermabrasion and Dr. Y in New Orleans.  Then there was Dr. Khan in UK, then Rahimi in LA.

Your advice, recommendations, and encouragement are helpful and valuable.  One of the leading scar experts, Dr. Davin Lim, referred someone seeking a specialist to this forum for recommendations.  Thank you for your contributions.  They have been helpful to me and others.  Your input is appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to share and help others.

Very interesting. In saying that, he does sound very passionate and very proficient in his knowledge for acne scar revision. I wonder if all of his glowing reviews on Real Self are the real deal. A lot of those reviews seemed to be from people who only every made the one post and any without before and after pictures.

Has anyone from this forum actually had scar treatment from him? Anyone from Australia or who has made the journey to Australia? It would be interesting to hear from people who have actually seen him,

Nice to see Acne Org get highlighted with all the special work they do in providing information and support to everyone on here.

Oh yeah, I do remember that one. It is good to see one review that I know is real. It would be good if there was others, but surprisingly, even with many international patients supposedly going to see him, they're not many positive reviews on Acne Org. Yet everyone raves on about him. Interesting.

I only write this because scars on the face are very difficult to treat. Especially with lasers, which don't seem to have a high customer satisfaction rate.

Thank You for sharing that.

Acne.org is a informational source...

Dr. Lim has videos to educate acne scar suffers and this is why they are included in the FAQ. He is humble saying he is not the best, and there are other "scar specialists" out there  that do manual methods of scar revision, not just laser. He try's to give you the tools to be treated anywhere. He is doing a great service to the community. I would much rather people be connected here with acne scars than Realself which is often used as a sales pitch / marketing for the Dr, so kudos to him for pointing them here.  Dr Lim is truly talented with lasers, ... one of the rare Dr's in the world like this.  There are many paths to the same point and a sedated chemical peel by a skilled Derm / Plastic can also get you there (doing the same function as a laser). I truly believe he is one of the good ones like Rullan, Novick, Chu, Emil, and the other Drs we list in the FAQ (top of the scar solutions sub, first post, Dr recommendations).

What sets Dr Lim and any good Scar specialist apart is their thirst for new methods and knowledge. Feeling the scar in 3-D, touching and evaluating them, and using directional light. We have had some happy patients of his, they just don't post anymore after we give them the tools and contact to see him. It's a long process to treat acne scars, and the patients wanted their privacy. It really is all up to the way you heal (your body) and the time you put in the process, luckily AUS has a Medical supplement (acne scars are considered medical - unlike the US) to go towards the expensive treatments. One of the posters from this site besides the female who now resides in the UK and was ecstatic about her erbium resurfacing with hi another is a gentleman in his Youtube videos who flew from South America to get filler injections and subcision .

Cheers Dr Lim for Your Work Empowering Posters Here to Get Treated Locally. :food_n_drink_49::food_n_drink_55:

Think he has other better things to do than self promote his name on this site. He's active on realself trying to clean up the promotional dentists and physicians promising the World with pico and Fraxel lasers for acne scarring. BA has more idea than 95% of acne scar providers on realself. That is tragic as patients tend to trust doctors, whilst the contributors and moderators on this site have more idea about acne scar revision than a supposedly Gold Standards site. That is social media for you... and ethics of doctors now a days.

Quite sadly, I can't argue against you on that one. And that makes it a very sad state of affairs. Research, research, research your scar revision specialist, just do not go to the one in your area. Even travel if that is what it takes.

I also think beauty clinics and beauty spas should be outlawed from giving out lasers. Scar revision should be a specialist field in dermatology. That should be the minimum qualification.

Beautifulambition and some others on this site changed my life a couple years ago. Turned me on to Davin Lim and Dr. Novick. I didn't know where to go after wasting so much time, money, and emotional energy on crappy devices like the fraxel 1550. My skin isn't perfect, but it has improved to the point that the scars aren't glaringly obvious, or prevent me from living my life.

I'll probably pop in and out of this site for years to keep up on the latest info, and try to help some people, though I'd only be repeatng what the other good users say. Skin care and acne scar treatment has kind of become a hobby for me.

Who did you see QuanHenry for your scars? Both of those doctors? That is amazing you got significant results and improvement. Good to see you are sticking around and helping others.

@QuanHenry  Howd the results end up sticking with Novicks treatment?  Once I get some spare time I plan on heading down to see him as well.  Looks like I have fairly similar scars to when you started your journey and would love to hear how everything went.   Edited by thepwhisp
