Day 137

Face looking a little better. Going to post pictures within the next couple days or so. Growing up in the prime of racist and divided America I can't help but feel guilty walking around as a middle class white boy. Rest in peace Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, victims of the Bastille day massacre and all of the officers killed recently. Growing up with my Gameboy and cartoons I never envisioned such horrors would transpire throughout my malleable, impressionable and somewhat unstable adolescence. I wrote a school paper on racism, teacher was probably a little pissed but I did well. If anyone wants to read it just let me know. This is acne.org though and not left-wing-rants.com, but I already typed this so whatever. A house divided cannot stand. It really is hard for me to look at a flag knowing it once served as a fucking firestarter wrapped around slave bodies. Bernie endorsed Clinton since my last update so I guess Imma vote for her. Wish trump would have picked newt for some dumb and dumber action lol. "im going to interview every muslim and deport the ones associated with shariah" what a dumbass he is lol. i turn 18 right before the election so i guess im pretty lucky. Stay Positive!

My acne isn't as severe as yours, but my face cleared up pretty well in a month on 30 mg, my derm said that lower doses have been shown to work better and are more popular in India and the EU. Maybe if you should talk to your derm about lower doses? I've heard that isotretinoin starts working at the 4 month mark so I don't know.

And I would def like to read your essay :-)

Bruh I'm already 137 days in, I might as well just finish on my 80mg dose and see what happens when I finish. Some people clear rapidly when they finish. Besides, I was basically on 30mg for the first month and it was as if I wasn't taking anything at all. I drink 200+oz of water a day and sweat profusely 2-3 times a day. I've heard this can make it less effective, thus I needed more. I've been watching our log, your face looks great.

Yeah, makes sense to finish off the 80 mg dose.  Maybe the lower dose thing just applies to moderate acne, at least thats what I've read.

Day 139

I need to work on being more confident around people. If I can focus on becoming confident I think my acne obsession would subside. I need to work on understanding myself more. Face looking a little better, maybe a few new breakouts but nothing major as of now. Stay positive!

How long is your derm planning to keep you on? Are your actives still cystic or mostly smaller?

My derm says that if I got my current month (2 weeks left) with no new blemishes then I can stop. In the case that I do breakout at least once this current month, which I have, I would need to do one more month. I planned on asking for one more month anyways as my side effects right now are non-existent. They are combination right now unfortunately.

Day 143

I catch myself daydreaming about going to school with decent skin. If I could just work on my red marks a tad I would be so happy. No new actives today. Stay positive!

I highly recommend the Eminence Stone Crop Serum for lightening any red marks you have. I've been using it for a few months now and it's been great at calming my skin! It's a bit pricey but a little goes a long way! :)

Day 157

Sorry for the lack of updates. My face is actually looking better, my active spots are down significantly but my red marks are not good at all. I started month 6 about a week ago and was lowered to 40mg daily instead of the 80mg I had been taking daily for 3 months. If I go this course with no new actives (I have about 6-8 currently) I can stop. I will probably end up doing one more month which is fine. Side effect wise, if it wasn't for the dry lips I would have no idea I was on the medication, even during the 3 months of high dosing. (80mg daily and I weigh 60kg) Stay positive!

They say that red marks tend to tone down mostly after you stop Accutane In case they don't there is always laser.
Looking forward to your post after stopping it's very encouraging that you went through this relatively high dose course without
any persistent side effects.
Keep it up.

I give full credit to water. Drinking 180-220oz of water daily is what I think helped me, I cannot recommend mass water consumption enough for someone taking Accutane.

Day 159

Right side of face not looking good. Overall condition of my face thus far in treatment has improved but is still not good at all. Another school year of this shit. Got like 6 days of summer left so yeah, pretty disappointing in terms of the goal I had set for my skin to look at least halfway decent for my final year of school. Whatever though, life (hopefully) goes on and as does my course. I was under the assumption the the progression of my course would coincide with the progression of my skin towards a healthier state, but was somewhat wrong. I think it is vital that course-goers understand that Accutane is not a linear progression course- it is rocky and sometimes you regress, but all for one goal of eventually having clear skin at the end/sometime after you finish your course. Had a fully enveloped myself in this grand concept of Accutane theory I do not think I would have such a feeling of anger and frustration I currently have. My NEW goal is to have presentable skin by the end of my first semester. Stay positive!

Hey man, respect for hanging in there! Sounds like your having a bit of a torturous ride. This time next year it will all be a distant memory!

I wish i had done it at your age but i miraculously cleared up at 17 but started breaking out really badly on my neck at 25 which has left some hektik scarring over the last 12 months.

Tried Accutane but threw in the towel after 3 weeks because of joint pain, Im a bit of a gym junkie and its my only solace from the stress acne causes, so was scared to have to give it up. Did some PDT treatments which helped but only lasted a few months, so now Im going to give Minocycline 8 weeks and if no luck i will get back on the Accutane and brave my way through it.

Wish i had your mental toughness man, hope you see some results soon!

Sorry to hear about you having to stop the course, but I hope the Minocycline works out for ya! I've heard very good things about it. Have a great day!

Day 167

School started, same ol' shit just a different day. Awful light accentuates my awfully red and splotchy face. Breaking out on the back of my neck and sit in the front of my class. I mean damn, all I wanted was one year to go through a school day without feeling inferior. Winter break is my goal. I want to come back from that break with great skin. Still have actives from like the first week and it is day 167, very odd. Just hoping for some nice improvement in the weeks after finishing the course. Stay positive!

Hey man! I hope you are doing well. Remember to de-stress somehow every day. Stress can lead to more acne as you know.

I think that if you're still breaking out after your accutane treatment you should get your hormones tested. There could be something at play there.

Positive vibes to you!

Hey man!

Hope all is well.  Your face is really improving.  Are you taking your Accutane with a fat source?  Since it is fat soluble, in order for it to be metabolized it needs to be taken with fat.  I used to take mine with a tablespoon of olive oil (tastes gross but helps).  Also, have you thought about weight training?  I had really low self esteem during my course but getting my body into shape helped me feel better about myself overall, even though my face was still a mess.  Good luck with this year!! You're going to do great
