My Accutane Log - 17M - Pictures

Recommended Posts

Day 53

Face might be clearing up a tad. Maybe though, it is hard for me to tell. I think I've hit a plateau where the condition of my face just stays the same. I've been on 80mg a day for a week now as a test to see how high I can go (will probably go down to 40mg soon) and I still have very minimal side effects. My face has not shown any signs of dryness or peeling. The only dryness is on my hands and arms. Just feel kinda stuck, ya know. Every update will contain a song that I've been listening to so I can make a playlist later. Music is a big part of my life and it is only fitting to have a semi-nostalgic playlist to bring back some Accutane memories.

Hey man, hang in there!  I know it's tough but it will turn the corner.  Also make sure that you take what your doc prescribes, don;t just take 80mg one day and 40 the next!  Vanicream works great for dryness on the body.  Try that out if you're still itchy, it's super thick.  Here are some pics of me during my treatment. Purple shirt is two months in!  I was originally supposed to be on for 5 months but it turned into 8.  I've been off for over a year and my skin looks great.  If you have any questions please PM me!  Stay strong bro

Day 55

Face seems to be clearing up a tad - I have these deep spots that come to a head eventually and are really annoying/painful that I would love to be banished from my face forever soon. Lips a little dry. Stay positive!

Day 57

Face stuck in an inprove and then worsen loop. Some days it feels good and looks bad, others it feels bad and looks good. Super volatile state right now. School ends soon, another year down consisting of awkward, annoying and sad stuff. Still can barely look anyone in the eye right now. I'm so dodgy. Been kinda angry lately also. My goal is to come back my senior year with at least semi-clear skin and some confidence. That would be nice. Beggars can't be choosers though. Stay positive!

Day 58

Dentist appointment today - went badly, my tooth lady destroyed my lips. Like, ramming her floss into the cracks of my mouth destroyed. Face breaking out, looks red and inflamed. Feels rough and bumpy. Hoping for a day 70 miracle. Stay positive people!

Day 59

Face breaking out a tad. Some of the deep lingering spots seem to be coming to the surface and are inflamed. Hopefully those keep coming up and vanish soon. Lips more dry than usual. Stay positive!

Day 60 and 61

Face breaking out - face looks bad. Angry and anxious, just surprised that I am still having breakouts of this magnitude. Had a moment today where I realized just how bad my skin was - tons of deep spots around my cheekbones and red marks everywhere. I just really hope I start to clear up soon. I currently have 24 active spots, including the deep, almost colorless cysts surrounding my cheekbones and not including tiny marks. Tons of red marks though. I have a presentation this week that I/m also pretty pissed about having to do with my skin in this condition. Stay positive!

Day 62

Had my month 2 checkup today, with little improvement to show for it. Maybe even a tad worse. My face constantly feels warm and swollen, nothing terrible though. I think my deem  was a little surprised that my face looks a tad worse. I've been on 80mg daily for 2.5 weeks and nothing has changed whatsoever. I'm kinda hoping for something, maybe even just a little flare up to show me the damn stuff is working. I just love the feeling of finally getting home from school. Such a great feeling. I can't wait for it to end. Only 13 days left of regular school. So excited. If I could just have 1/4 'years in high school with clear skin I would be ecstatic. Last chance for that is next year, my senior year. I just want to be able to engage in class without feeling so damn inferior. Stay positive!

Day 63

Man I can't wait for school to be over. Face looks the same, during the day it feels red and flushed. Other than that, nothing new. My labs came back good. Stay positive people!

Day 64

Ugh, so tired of waiting around. I just want my skin to clear already. Sometimes I wonder if having clear skin would even be that beneficial for me. I see plenty of people with clear skin, and they never seem to be taking full advantage of social interactions with clear skin as I have always imagined them being. Just a thought though, I definitely want clear skin. My skin is still breaking out. I have gotten 3 deeper spots this week that are very red, looks pretty bad. I have a presentation on Friday at school and I'm hoping for a miracle. The nice thing about it is that the classroom I am presenting in is the only classroom in the building basically that doesn't have bright fluorescent white lighting. It is a darker toned light, which I've found to help reduce the splotchy look of my complexion. Stay positive!

Hey! I didn't know you had your own thread going here. Hope you are doing well (besides the acne).... I am sorry to hear your skin is just giving you non stop trouble. The one thing I can say is that these breakouts could be your last (forever!) if all goes in favor of the statistics, which are high! Have you by chance had your testosterone checked? I've read various articles where even in males too of testosterone can cause acne. Just a thought.

I know how you feel being there in high school and dealing with acne -- the one thing I can say to you is this, high school is not forever. Imagine how awesome it'll be when your off to college or in your new career with clear skin... it'll have been so much more worth it to have dealt with acne in high school.... I can promise you that. Adult acne is by far more challenging and another ballgame when it comes to facing other adults in your professional career. I know this doesn't help your current situation for tomorrows presentation, but I hope it gives you inspiration to truly kick ass in tomorrow BECAUSE you ARE so much MORE than just your skin. Stay strong. <3

Thanks a ton for the incredible words... it really means a lot to me. You truly are an amazing person and I wish you only the BEST. Hopefully at the end of our courses we can look back on these days smiling knowing that although our journey to clear skin is over, the best is yet to come! Have a fantastic day/week/month/year, you are a great person and you deserve only the best, and nothing more.

You're so welcome! Thank you for kind words :) I hope that, as you said, in the months to come as we end our course of treatment, I hope we can look back on these moments and feel inspired to continue helping our peers and others going through hardship (whether that's acne or anything else) I think that by having a condition like acne - we become stronger and have greater compassion towards others. I hope you have a great presentation today...! It's Friday, the weekend is near, breathe deep and remember what makes you, you!...It can be hard to break that toxic cycle of insecurity but ever step counts. Progress, not perfection. Let me know how it goes today!

I couldn't agree more with you in that having a condition like acne we become stronger, more empathetic individuals. As for the presentation, it went well. By the middle of the speech I was completely comfortable, and finished strong. I know this may seem weird coming from a near stranger, but I was thinking about what you said and it did help me out a lot before, during and after my speech. I've always preached that the key to success is empathy, and can come as a result of overcoming the cycles of insecurities you mentioned. Easier said than done for myself, I'm sure its going to take a while for me. Like you said, progress, not perfection. Have a fantastic weekend.

Day 66

Face actually showing some signs of improvement. Seems to be flattening out and drying. Aside from about 20 actives, I am still left with red marks and potential scarring, have to wait and see how the deeper marks look after the redness dies down. Face looks a little better than previous weeks though. Stay positive!

Day 70

Forehead breaking out, some of my deeper spots that have been around my cheekbones for months seem to be getting larger. Somewhat disappointed, but it is all part of the process. Haven't mentioned body acne much, but right now is the worst it has probably ever been. Chest, shoulders and lower neck breaking out with hard swollen bumps, seems to be dying down though. Staying positive, hoping that by day 100 I begin to see some nice changes!

I'm so glad your presentation went well and that my words helped you push through! I'm sorry to hear your skin is continuing to breakout but like you said, it is all apart of the process and if you think of it this way, one new breakout could be your last! Stay positive...! What are you using on your skin as a cleanser and moisturizer?

Thanks for more kind words. I am currently using LilyAna's Green Tea Moisturizing Face Wash followed up with Christina Moss' Organic Facial Moisturizer. It seems to be the only routine that doesn't exacerbate my already red and splotchy skin.

Day 72

Face looks a tad better. Only side effects right now are dry hair and moderately dry lips. Pretty incredible considering I am on 80mg per day, which is a pretty high dosage for myself coming in at a whopping 59kg. Only 5 days of school left, I've never been more excited. Face seems to be flattening out a tad, although I do still have a plethora of red marks that are very noticeable and red, especially under the high quality fluorescent lighting at my school. Damn. Stay positive!

Day 74

Face actually looks pretty decent today - I think these past two days or so my face has seen some nice improvement. My lips are pretty bad though, I'm embarrassed to talk to people because when they seem my lips they involuntarily (who knows, maybe on purpose) start feeling their own lips to see if they are flaky like mine. They don't really feel bad unless I smile without chapstick, but they are just so flaky. Stay positive!

Give it some time! You are not even halfway yet, I'm sure everything will turn out fine. :) I know at the moment it's hell, I've been there. Try to focus on something else and do something you love. In a month or two, you will look at the pics from this time and see a big difference, I'm sure. Stay strong and good luck!

6 hours of school left... pretty great. Left cheek breaking out. Back hurts, lips chapped. Other than that, doing pretty great. Stay positive!

Day 80

Face maybe looking a tad better, still red, splotchy and still has more than enough active spots. Ever since starting Accutane, I have had some incredibly vivid dreams, some of which are very troubling. I know they are a product of my own subconscious, but I think Accutane has somehow brought accentuated the severity of my dreams. I know it may seem weird and childish, but some of my dreams have been so vivid and troubling that throughout the day my mind thinks that the events in my dreams actually occurred and this backdrop of anxiety and fear occurs. Very strange. Other than the dreams, dry lips and smewhat achy back, I am doing great. Only 4.5 hours of school left! Stay positive!
