Can I use a facial cleanser with sodium laureate sulphate?  What does SLS do for the skin?

And a lot of people suggest CeraVe facial cleanser but if you check the ingredients, it contains parabens.

I really want to try this new cleanser but it contains SLS so can I still use it?

(I have oily acne prone skin)

I know that Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate are highly comedogenic and known irritants especially for sensitive skin so avoid them! Irritation can also ramp up sebum production in some people.

I've never heard of sodium laureate sulphate, unless you spelt it wrong (?), but I would steer clear of it if you could, when you have acne prone skin, minimizing as many risks as you can is always better!

Props for avoiding the parabens too :D

I spelt it wrong lol, thanks for that :)

Thanks, almost all cleansers contains SLS, or parabens. It's going to be so hard!! Can you check out Simple Cleansing gel ingredients and tell me what you think?

Wait, so I shouldn't use CeraVe? although so many people use it with success or should just stick to plain ol' cetaphil :3

I'm not sure what gel you are talking about because i'm not familiar with Simple products. What I usually do is find the ingredients of the product (online or however) and then see whether they are comedogenic or not.

This PDF is pretty comprehensive if you just wanna ctrl F and search for the ingredients. Otherwise just google the ingredient and 'comedogenic' as the key words ya know. http://journal.scconline.org/pdf/cc1989/cc040n06/p00321-p00333.pdf

You're site watch here so I guess you're familiar that a 5/5 rating is very pore clogging and 0/5 is best. Anything over 2 in the first 5 ingredients of a product you should be wary of.

Of course there other factors to consider like irritantcy and such which you won't usually know until you use it of course, but don't over think it otherwise we all may as well just use water!

Oh CeraVe is a pretty gentle and basic product if you are using other medication for your skin. I personally just try to avoid parabens myself if I can as i'm a bit of a hypochondriac, studies have linked paraben exposure to increased breast cancer risk.

Thank you :) yeah that's the same reason I avoid parabens too! :) lol yeah, I know ingredients that are comedogenoc but people use them with success but I'm just scared to because I'm pretty clear right now and the moisturizer and cleanser I'm using is not easily available and I just want to switch to gentle ones without needing with the progress I've made so far.

hey, well according to cosdna simple face wash gel doesnt seem too bad. it doesnt have any irritating or acne causing ingredients. it does have some yellows in the safety. http://cosdna.com/eng/cosmetic_5a0d197387.html

in the morning i use cerave baby wash and shampoo on my face. it doesnt have any parbens of sulfates. here is the analysis for that http://cosdna.com/eng/cosmetic_f1df175766.html

if you really want to avoid harmful ingredients try looking at organic cleansers at whole foods (or somewhere similar).
