Hi everybody!

Ive been dealing with a large amount of cheek acne for a little over a year and I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions in getting rid of it. I'm 23 and just started getting acne about a year ago. As a teenager I really only had a zit every once in a while.  It's quite upsetting because it really makes me feel self conscious and insecure and I'm afraid that it will scar.  It came out of no where so I don't really know the exact cause.

In looking at face mapping and talking with my estethecian it seems like my area is gut related. I try to eat paleo-ish but I'm not extremely consistent.  I was convinced it was diet but I feel like even when I am consistent it doesn't help that much. I don't eliminate everyday so I figured that could be apart of it, too.  The reason I have my doubts about diet is because up until about 1.5 years ago I was eating the SAD and that's how I grew up.  I really didn't think much about health and figured people only ate healthy if they wanted to lose weight.  I met my husband and he grew up completely different.  He was raised eating extremely clean and his family was very into natural things. He enjoys living and eating that way and needs to because of having bad asthma as a child.  I started transitioning into that kind of lifestyle and followed a lot of his habits.  I wasn't always totally consistent but i was eating a significant amount less of gluten and dairy.  About 6 months after we were married i started noticing the acne.  It's confusing to me because I eat much more clean now than I had my entire life but it's only now that I'm experiencing this horrible acne.  Am I detoxing??

I do feel like I need to clean myself from the inside out but nothing seems to work.  Topically I was using honey and different oils which I liked but then I went to something stronger and it didn't make a difference.  Anyone have any ideas of what it could be or suggestions??  I've tried probiotics, cod liver oil, I drink kombucha tea and lemon water every morning.  Is there another cause for this acne besides diet??  My next step I think is doing a detox like the master cleanse or a juice cleanse. Any help would be very very much appreciated!! Here are some pictures of my acne over the past year.

Thanks!!

I've seen worse and they used the regimen. Or you could go on accutane

My skin is similar to yours. I have been suffering from severe cystic acne for about 3 months now. Before that i had mild acne for about 6 months and before that i had clear skin. So relatively new to severe acne. The process has been very confusing and definitely humbling. I am 27 now. I also eat clean but i do not have any control when it comes to sugar and i am positive now that sugar is what triggers my acne. The time i started getting acne was also the time i had started learning how to bake. I did not realize it until it was too late. Now, i am trying my best to lower my sugar intake.

Medication wise, I am using `dual gel topically and taking Lymecycline orally. I have some pics on my profile. I am trying to do a weekly update on the progress. Lets see how that will work. Currently, I am on my third week and so far, there isn't much difference. Try a dermatologist and ask about prescription medicine. No Accutane for me because of the side effects but i might have to go on it if Lymcecycline doesn't work in the next two months. I am not sure if juice or any other cleanse would work but it is worth a try. Wish you the best!

I'm not a big fan of pills but I am currently using the regimen and I'm clear so I will always recommend that first. I'm 2 months in.

Ya same. Not a huge fan of medications. Iresisted pills for quite a while until my acne kept getting worse and i had to take action. But you are right, it is always better to try topical treatment first, accompanied with good diet obviously, and see how that goes.
