Guys. Im looking for people to join me who feel strongly and passionately about the experience you have had with roaccutane. I was prescribed roaccutane on the NHS in Scotland in January 2014. I was on it for 6 months. Ever since I have finished. I've had depression, anxiety, dry thinning and brittle hair, constant dry lips, but the worst of all I have had severe severe IBS I literally couldn't work for 6 months because I go to the toilet about 15 times a day! Please guys. I really really want to find out about others experiences and maybe move forward with a lawsuit against the drug company.

I totally understand that for so many people this drug has been amazing but unfortunately there is a huge amount of people that claim this has effectively ruined their lives. I being one of them really really want people to come forward because I genuinely feel like we deserve something wether it's compensation or an apology. I feel we deserve something, for so long I felt like I was going crazy but I'm not even 21 and what I've been through in the past 2 years it's like I've been completely robbed of my youth. I genuinely feel like a 40 year old. Please get in touch with me! X

Hi Nicholas,

Yes I am willing to come forward and take action. I understand what you're saying and what you claim.

I am 28 and this drug has really damaged my skins ability to heal plus more. Anxiety and depression I have also suffered since taking the drug. I would want this drug to be taken more seriously and for them to tell you it was designed as a CHEMOTHERAPY drug. Something they don't tell you.

Side effects are also not all temporary but some can remain permanent. Essentially I wish I never did the drug. It shouldn't have been prescribed to me even if I did 'want to' at the time.

The only peace of mind is that i did a low dose for 4.5 months. But even that was enough to do its damage. Compensation and the ban of this drug would be the ultimate goal for me. Or if not complete ban, then only for people with absolutely extreme acne should even be considered for this.

I'm extremely sad and sorry to hear this, but to offer a counter-argument - accutane saved my life. I was suffering extreme depression and anxiety because of my skin, and accutane completely helped me. I honestly hope this drug never gets banned - because if it wasn't for this drug, I, and a lot of other people, wouldn't be around anymore.

I don't know about others but I was told that this was a former chemotherapy drug, and was told extensively about all of the risks involved. It was my decision entirely, and for a lot of people suffering from acne, and even going to a dermatoloist in the first place, I am sure they would have researched how dangerous this drug can be beforehand. You literally type accutane into google and the side effects and negative (along with positive) reviews flood up. It has been like this for years, and it is the individuals sole responsibility to take it. You are not forced to take it, and even derms give it as a last resource.

okay great jack, try and round up people and get them in to this forum the more people the better. I'm not going to let one stupid piece of shit drug ruin my life. honestly i wish i had my oily, spotty skin back i'd take it any day over this shit. The bbc 3 documentary 'dying for clean skin' has the parents of a few of the young guys who unfortunately took roaccutane, i'm going to try and get in touch with them. Also it would be great if we could get into contact with a guy named stefan!

I am so happy this worked out for you, we weren't all so lucky. Most of the side effects explained were told to be temporary and IBS wasn't even mentioned to me, I think there are other things out there which can be done that the NHS should invest in.
I wish you lots of luck in the future :)

Lore91.......Iagree with your comments. It is upsetting to read the othercomments in this thread andI'm so sorry to those that have had a bad experience with accutane and the problems theynow have. I also agree with you that it can help alot of people!.....Itook accutane 7 years ago and it improved my skin greatly and made me feel so much "happier" aboutmyself. 7 years on and started a low dosage again as my very oily, over active glands returned butstill dont regret taking it 7 years ago. There are reports of bad experiences with accutane but important to remember that there are also many good experiences too and for many, like your comments confirm......accutane is also a life saver!Accutaneis a drug and like any drug there is a risk ofside effects....everyone is different, every situation is different and every treatment is different...really sorry to read your storyNicholas, JackTheLadand hope things improve for you both in the future! Best wishes

I feel like a lot of people look at 'possible' side effects beforehand and then expect them to happen, thus causing cyclical anxiety about prolonged effects. This in turn can cause psychological problems based on worry, and anxiety itself can cause diarrhea, then worry about the diarrhea causes more diarrhea. Stress can thin hair with a telogen effluvium effect. Get my point? Have you tried really good probiotics? Like Renew Life Ultimate Flora? A healthy diet, and ridding your worry level? This could be psychosomatic because you might of expected side effects? You could of also coincidentally just started with IBS - I took so many different antibiotics over the years for acne that it messed up the good bacteria in my gut and have me IBS like diarrhea for a year! It took me changing my diet, exercise, reducing stress and daily probiotics to regulate it and I'm fine now. Try eating clean and getting probiotics maybe, or consult a GI physician more about this to do a endoscopy. Hope this helps. Your body can heal in the right circumstances.

lol i get you but i didn't do this prior to accutane, So walk a mile in my shoes and when you've tried to do everything then you can judge me.I know what your trying to say but if you haven't experienced what im experiencing I dont really think you have the right to comment.

I'm not really judging you I'm just saying this could be coincidental. It doesn't matter if you didn't do this prior to Accutane if anxiety about symptoms that may happen are from takingAccutane itself. Anxiety could of started up based on fear of symptoms and then created symptoms. Nocebo/placebo effect type psychogenic stuff.

Chill out.

Low carb is veeeery important. No greasy or super fatty foods and no simple carbs (sugars, white breads and grains). Also, make sure to drink enough liquids to keep things moving smoothly. There's also a good chance the problems r in your head and caused by anxiety.

Accutane has ruined my life. I couldn't work for years due to severe depression, which I still struggle with now. My daily battle with depression, anxiety, bone pain, chrones disease (awaiting gp diagnosis) is a living hell. I am unable to look after my two year old son properly because of the pain I am suffering. I don't care what any person comes back with , it is 100% caused by Accutane!! Before taking it i was literally the most positive and sporty person OUT THERE. Now I'm like an 80 year old. The stomach problems are the hardest thing to live with.

STAY AWAY FROM ACCUTANE

Hi all. Just wanted to add my own experience with Roaccutane.

I was prescribed this drug by the NHS when I was 16 (1992/93). At the time I believed Roaccutane was responsible clearing up my acne. Acne returned after a few years and I still get spots to this day.

At around 16/17 I developed social anxiety and a persistent low mood. These changes werea marked difference in my personality.

Aged 18 I was admitted to hospital having suddenly lost a substantial amount of blood rectally. I was immediately given seven pints of blood upon arrival and many more pints in the days before surgery. After tests (both scopes, nuclear) and surgery I was diagnosed with acute diverticulitis. After surgery I was told by the surgeon that without treatment I would have likely died and the issue was that stomach acid had burnt through an artery(!).

From my early 20s I developed symptoms which can be described as IBS.

I'm now 40 and married with young children. The anxiety, depression and IBS persist to this day, the anxiety in particular causes me significant difficulty. I had worked from age 19 at the same firm for 20 years. I worked from home for the last 7 years of my employment there. Last year I was made redundant and have been unemployed since. My social anxiety is making it difficult to find new work.

I don't know with absolute certainty if Roaccutane caused these issues but I am deeply suspicious, especially seeing many other similar reports here and elsewhere online.

If it turns out Roaccutane is responsible then I won't hesitate to take it further. My only question is, what should be the next step?

Has any further action been taken as of yet?

I had roaccutane 7 or so years ago, described as the dream drug for acne, sure enough it worked for my skin.

Only a year after did I realise the toll of having nice skin through accutane.

6 years on, I'm suffering big time, bowel problems, chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety, nausea; I even fell out of school on the last year, aswell as falling out of college 1 year in; I'm trying to up my life by going to University but its making it terribly hard as I cant function properly and going to University is nearing on impossible with the added stress.

I had been to and from the doctors numerous times, being prescribed anti depressants etc, in the end he just said theres nothing we can do for you, good luck.

Went to a mental health/medical negligence specialist, they also told me there's nothing at all they can do for me as its a big company, but its literally ruined my life, they just told me to go and enjoy life for what I can; that was probably the hardest thing I've ever done, even to this day I'm not the person I used to be, no where near.

I used to compete for my county in sports, travelling the UK, shortly after taking roaccutane I was locked in my bedroom having trouble coping with keeping myself in this life. Luckily these days I'm much stronger mentally in that point of view, but it could've taken my life, then again I guess it is in other ways, its still consuming me and causing damage to my internal organs.

No amount of money would make it right, but sure would help just in a justice point of view.

If you havent gone ahead and made any action yet, let me know.

Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time. Can you post a pic of your dry thinning and brittle hair? So we can see what you are talking about? Obviously you can't post a pic of your IBS, but seeing your hair would help assess your situation and it's severity, and I think it would be very helpful to people. Thanks!

Hi guys and girls,

I know it's been a while, but has any action been taken?

I have suffered the impact of taking Roaccutane and am seeking legal advice; however, solicitors are trying to find current cases and/orprospective cases in order to move things forwardas a group rather than individually.

If you're still interested in pursuing this, let me know as I'll be moving full steam ahead.

Yes we know about some of the side effects but were you told that some of the side effects can be permanent.
Were you told about infertility, lasting depression, depersonalization. Zero or low libido. Impotence.Pain for the rest of your life Not listed as side effects but very real! Let see what you have to say in 10 years times. Good luck

Did you report this to the FDA? You need to find others who had the same experience - strength in numbers. Your story is truly shocking and I am sorry for your experience which I do believe was caused by accutane.
Ask for freedom of information from you health authority and possibly the FDA as well. Ask for information regarding all side effects being attributed to accutane and for any info on legal action that has been taken or is pending. Ask specifically aboutthe areas you are most concerned about but also get them to address all know reported side effects. This is your best bet if you want to take legal action.

I used Accutane 20 years ago , prescribed by a dermatologist on the NHS UK. Since than I've suffered from major depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. Also, major stomach problems and also very dry skin and eczema amongst other things such as chronic rhino sinusitis, debilitating insomnia and low libido. It's ruined my life.
Are there any lawyers in the UK who can help with this?

Please look at my last posts on repairing side effects of accutane thread.

We desperately need people to report their side effects.
I have provide many email addresses of the people who are reviewing accutane in June of this year.

If we can't get accutane banned we at least need for all side effects especially sexual side to be added to the PIL.
We might also get research going to find a cure for side effects and also it may help anyone considering the legal route.

sorry to mega quote that....
I had roaccutane roughly 18 years ago when i was about 18. About a year later i was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid gland, which is very strange for a young lad. Ive also suffered from bouts of severe depression since. I have no concrete proof but i always put the thyroid issue down to the drug. Id love to get legal advice.

Hi, can anyone tell me if a group has been formed by anyone in the UK to take action against the manufacturers of Roaccutane (Roche). Does anyone know if this has been done before in the UK and if any successful cases have been made. I have Ulcerative Colitis and have had many hospitalisations due to the illness. I now have to inject myself weekly with humra and take methotrexate due to my condition. i have almost had my bowel removed on two occasions. The link between the two has been proven in the States, but i need to know if anything positive has happened here in the UK. ANd help or advice would be appreciated.
