How I Cured My Hormonal Acne

I feel like my 12 year struggle with acne is almost over and I'm ecstatic! So I wanted to share with everyone what I found that has worked for me and may help others as well.

I had a hormonal test done via ZRT laboratories earlier this year. It is a saliva test that you do at a certain time of your cycle to get the best idea of where your hormone levels are at. My results showed very low estrogen and progesterone levels. I also had high levels of bad estrogen. I started on progesterone cream and DIM for estrogen metabolism. I also decided to replace a lot of my products with paraben free alternatives to reduce bad estrogens going in to my body.

I suspected I might have candida overgrowth since I often had low energy even after sleeping 8+ hours. Two months ago I started on Plexus Biocleanse and Probio5 products. My energy increased and my skin started clearing up.

I was still experiencing some breakouts so I decided to try cod liver oil. Within a few days, I saw a noticeable difference. I am using Green Pastures fermented cod liver oil with butter oil capsules from Amazon. I take 2 a day and I break one open and put it on my skin at night.

I feel like I am finally on the right track. I want to encourage everyone to never give up hope! Also, having been to the dermatologist many times and only being put on antibiotics which ultimately do more harm than good, I would highly suggest doing everything you can naturally to cure your acne. It can be done, I am a testament to that.

hell yeah. Naturally is the most logical and safest way to go. Acne is a rash telling you something is wrong. Instead of dangerous and harmful antibiotics, medicines, and lab chemical mixes which can all harm your body (and probably has if you've used it), it's best to figure out whatsup. And don't give up!

Amazing!!!!! Congrats on your success!!! When you had your hormone test that showed low estrogen and progesterone were you having problems with absent/irregular menstrual cycles? Just curious

Thank you so much. Yes I was having very short periods and they were usually late. They are balancing out now that I'm on the natural hormonal remedies.

Congratulations! Do you think most of your acne was due to hormonal issues or digestive/ candida?

Also, how much & what kind of progesterone cream are you using? Did you see a specialist for the products you are using, or did you pick them up on your own?

How were you so successful in terms of choosing the correct treatment, e.g., cod liver oil? I've tried inositol and DIM and my acne didn't change at all.

I haven't done a saliva test yet but I know I have hormonal imbalances. Debating on whether or not to see an integrative doctor. Cost prohibitive ($395 for 1.5 hours. I live in the Bay Area.) but don't want to waste time with trial and error.

I would recommend any woman with any sign of hormonal imbalance to have their hormones tested before they find themselves with more serious problems such as cancer. Acne is a topical issue telling us that something much deeper is wrong.

DIM is also beneficial for anyone because there are bad estrogens in almost everything nowadays. Bad estrogen (xenoestrogens) are found in parabens which is in perfumes and most body and hair care. That's why I'm trying to switch as much of it as I can to paraben free alternatives. But since we really can't avoid all of it, at least I can know that DIM is helping my body to get rid of the bad estrogen.

I just happened to stumble across cod liver oil online and I have yet to read a bad review so I figured it wouldn't hurt me to try it since I have tried almost everything out there. I liked the fact that it has high levels of vitamin a and d, everyone knows they are beneficial for your skin. I also read it helps to balance hormones. I figured it was worth a shot. Within 3 days I saw a noticeable difference and it has improved so much within the past week.

Of course, since I have been on progesterone cream, DIM, Plexus products and other supplements for several months now, cod liver oil is a part of my regime, that may or may not work for someone else. That's why I say, start with a hormonal test and go from there.

Since my acne was cystic and mostly around my jawline and chin, I suspect it was mostly due to my extreme low levels of estrogen and progesterone.

The great thing about Plexus is, it's affordable and the Biocleanse is gentle. You take 2 in the morning and 2 at night with 8oz of water. I figured a gentle cleanse would only be beneficial to my skin. The Probio5 is their probiotic and everyone should be on a good probiotic. For people with symptoms such as acne, 4 tablets a day is recommended.

I think it was mostly hormonal but could have been a combination of hormones and yeast.

I have tried 3 different progesterone creams. I liked all of them. The first one I got from my nutritionist and I don't remember the name. But the second one was from Amazon called "internal harmony", it has herbs in it that are beneficial to balancing hormones. I'm currently using one from whole foods called Emerita.

Interesting. Personally, I'm a bit scared to try cod liver oil if it's fermented because I have histamine issues, and fermented foods/ supplements tend to raise histamines.

I'm also nervous about ordering creams or supplements from amazon, since some sellers are not verified. I heard of Emerita from whole foods, though, and other users have recommended it. I was using a different brand but I didn't stick with it long enough to see if it worked on my skin because at the time another medical issue surfaced that I had to deal with.

How long did it take you to notice results, btw? Some people give up way to soon with these kind of approaches.

Wow, ZRT's is $400 and John Lee's is $255 but his kits are from ZRT.

Called John Lee's toll-free number to ask if the kits are identical because I want to be sure I'm tested at different points of cycle. High call-volume so they asked to leave a message or send an email and then said they can't reply to all of them.

Does anybody know if they are identical?
