Johny1 0 Share Posted November 8, 2004 i am 22 and i have acne not the worst but i can get cystic and blemishes on my face most the time. everytime i start tanning for a few weeks and useing bp at night an the face wash my face clears up , tell i stop taning then i break out bad for like 2 months . so a week and a half ago i started tanning every other day or so and useing clearsil bp and face wash and it clears me up great. i think you guys that can tan should go everyother day or 3 days and use bp and youll be clear and look good. even if its not good for u at least youll have clear complexion. it works better than any overcounter medication. ThRiCe2442 0 Share Posted November 8, 2004 yeah but then when you cant tan your acne comes back 5x worse, an example is why so many people come to school when it starts with acne, cause the spent the whole summer tanning
BenKweller 2 Share Posted November 8, 2004 "even if its not good for u at least youll have clear complexion. it works better than any overcounter medication."Skin cancer is definitely worse than acne. You think blemishes are bad -- try explaining that you might be dying because of wanting to look dark.
Johny1 0 Author Share Posted November 8, 2004 if u go tanning at least 3 times a week and dont stop itll keep your face clear thats all im saying. tanning does not mean skin cancer gurantee.
BenKweller 2 Share Posted November 8, 2004 Yeah it does. In the long run, it's over 90%.
Mdawg202 0 Share Posted November 9, 2004 UV rays kill bacteria, killing bacteria killing acnebut they also damage your skin, and has to heal, when its healing you are more prone to breakouts, and your skin will be more sensitive.it might seem good at first, but irritated skin from the sun will only get more irritated from products, even if you don't think sobut yea having a tan is great, I don't go to a tanning salon or nothin lol... but like it during the summer.good luck with it, just be careful
Johny1 0 Author Share Posted November 9, 2004 i dont tan in the sun only at tanning beds, and 90% are u crazy lol if it was 90 percent everybody in america would have skin cancer. thats like saying 90% of people that smoke get cancer ..
BenKweller 2 Share Posted November 9, 2004 Actually, a HUGE percentage of people who smoke die of it. 1 in 3. Look at 3 friends that smoke; one of the buddies will die a pretty bad death from a lung disorder. And 90% of Americans don't have skin cancer because most of them don't tan in artificial beds 3 times a week. Don't be ignorant.
Johny1 0 Author Share Posted November 9, 2004 well alot of things are bad for you man but im not going to tan my whole life acnes supposed to die down around 25 and if i took accutane the way i am the side affects would be worse than a few years of tanning off and on its not like im going to tan my whole life . i just want clear skin for once in 8 years. fejao 0 Share Posted November 9, 2004 Sun exposure, does not automatically mean you will get skin cancer. The figure of 90%, can the person please provide clinical evidence to support this fact? Skin cancer has many factors and is not solely determined by sun exposure however there is strong links. Lifestyle, diet, suncream etc etc all have effects on skin cancer, its not just the sun.Fejao x
frances 1 Share Posted November 9, 2004 Tanning IS uv damage. There is some residual belief that uv light MAY have some temporary beneficial affect on acne. (Remember many decades ago acne was treated with uv light sessions - this caused a lot of acne sufferers to develop skin cancer). The current line from medical bodies is that sun/uv light has no positive affect on acne lesions. Additionally uv light WILL worsen and prolong the appearance of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It WILL cause your skin to age faster eg: wrinkles, sun spots. It WILL place you ate a greater risk of developing skin cancer. Also Benzoyl Peroxide is considered a sunsensitising drug. Johny1 0 Author Share Posted November 9, 2004 yes probly but when i tan every few days my skin clears way up i dont get any big zits or cysts just a occasinol tinye one and my skins smoother and no acne hardly. i had to stop taking the intibiotics for acne because i couldent sleep at all while on them and i got deprssed and shyt so i stoped an d all that went away weird i know because thats not even suppose to be a side affect like accutane so if i took accutane it would probly be terrible the stuff messed with my chemicals i guess. so now the only thing that works is tanning and bp at night. Maceintheeye 0 Share Posted November 10, 2004 hey man i tanned in the tanning bed for the longest time as well. It worked great for a few weeks and I was lookin pretty sexy If i must say myself. But then I missed 1 DAY of my tanning routine and the next morning I broke out bad, the rest of the week led to more cysts. Since then I dont trust the bed nemore, I have stayed away and my skin has cleared up, but it just sucks cuz marks show more when your skin is so white . So I do get tempted to go back in once awhile.

fejao 0 Share Posted November 10, 2004 Some quotes from the site mentioned above."The one thing we do know for certain about sunlight is that zero exposure does NOT equal zero risk; in fact, the risks of zero exposure would be deadly.""Human life is totally reliant on sun exposure, and the life-giving effects of ultraviolet light. The question for each of us - a question that nobody knows the exact answer to - is how much sun exposure is appropriate, and how much is too much. Basing the answer to that question on the belief that any exposure increases one's risk of skin damage - a belief that is not categorically supported in the medical literature -fails to recognize the positive influence ultraviolet light and sunlight have on our lives. New research on breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer and other deadly diseases - research that shows that regular sun exposure may play a key part in preventing the onset or retarding the growth of these deadly diseases - supports the position that moderate sun exposure, for those of us who can develop a tan, is the best way to maximize the potential benefits of sun exposure while minimizing the potential risks of either too much or too little exposure."I would also like to add that there is a new tanning drug being developed at this moment in time called Melanotan, which seems like an exciting prospect.http://www.epitan.com.au/IRM/content/melanotan.htmlFejao x
Johny1 0 Author Share Posted November 10, 2004 hes right maybe so much of you guys on here never get any sun at all thats why you have acne so bad try getting some tanning and useing your medications at night and see how you face does.
BenKweller 2 Share Posted November 10, 2004 Getting no sun = staying in a dark room with no sunlight ever. A tan is a burn; sunburn is just a more severe burn.
frances 1 Share Posted November 10, 2004 I don't think anyone here is advocating zero sun? What I am advocating is that you wear a sunscreen on your face to diminish your risk of aging prematurely, developing skin cancer and prolonging hyperpigmented marks.

Maceintheeye 0 Share Posted November 10, 2004 Hey I think i want to start tanning again. I only have a few active pimples on my face and my skin is pretty smooth, but those damn red/pink marks are terrible. Direct sunlight while i was looking in the mirror looked like a blacklight and made my skin look really blotchy. So im not sure what to do anymore, i was just gonna start tanning to fade over the pinkness but i was always thinking about getting scar treatment. Does anyone know a good scar treatment or should i just tan? please help . thanks.
Mdawg202 0 Share Posted November 11, 2004 well i dunno, tanning is great IMO and my skin was better during the summer. I didn't break out worse after a stopped going out in the sun and swimming a lot. everyones differentbut yea it could cause hyperpigmentation, uv rays damage skin, your skin is more prone to breakouts when its healing. and really, what says that it will tan your skin to an even tone. everything will get tanned, your skins and your red marksif you want to have the tanned look, try a spray on tan or something. sorry I've never tried them, but they're supposed to work good and I'd imagine it like your always wearing makeup or something, lol
swell 0 Share Posted November 11, 2004 Kinda of a stupid argument but I've thought about how some people in less fortunate countries are probably exposed to sunlight much more than the norm, without sunscreen. I think as long as you're reasonable with your exposure, you should be alright. If you get burned a few times you're not going to get skin cancer. Oh the hysteria.
