Ugh my acne is just not going away, after 4 1/2 months on lymecycline with little results I've switched on doxycyline for over a month. Using Isotrex since January too and washing with either Avene Cleansing gel/Eucerin face wash, sometimes applying clindamycin in the day if I feel like it though I feel it's just making my face greasier and greasier.

Attached some pictures of my skin...one from the start before I started isotrex (with my eyes blacked out) and the other from a few days ago.

Has my acne finally turned severe? I feel like I'm going to have a breakdown its not been this bad since I was like 18/19.

no that is not severe, not even close.....but I know it makes you crazy, of course it does

that type of acne looks like it would respond well to the regimen here on acne.org.....have you really given benzoyl peroxide a try, as laid out here on the site?

hang in there, and if it's forehead only, look at the labels in your hair care products, make sure you flip that pillow at night, and change the pillow case every other day- wash with dye and fragarence free deteregents too...and if I can talk you into ONE diet change, just one then ditch dairy, completely for 30 days...that works wonders for many

good luck to you, and keep us posted

No I haven't used the Regimen as I'm in the UK and BP is discontinued here and to ship over the acne.org products its going to cost a fair chunk of change. I am travelling to Malaysia tomorrow though so I might pick up some BP while I'm out there and maybe by the rest of the products when I'm back in the UK?

I don't think dairy impacts my acne to be honest, I've given it up since January and I really haven't seen that much of a difference. I've had perfectly clear skin in the past (on doxy and clindamycin/epiduo topicals) and have drunk dairy all my life so don't think that is a trigger?

no doesn't sound like it....gluten is the other big trigger, which is much tougher to give up- no wheat, bread, pasta, pizza

before you do that, I would just focus on eating better in general, no sodas, minimize processed foods and just eat whole foods...and try to limit how much white bread you eat, and white pasta

and sometimes when we've overdone the anitbiotics, when you go off and on it can cause issues....Accutane didn't work for me (and antibiotics failed too before that), sadly after 7 months I had no other options but to look at diet and supplements....so I really cleaned up my diet and eliminated dairy and gluten...but I also did the assault with topicals (BP didn't work for me, does for most...lucky me- but I do like salicylic acids and glycolic acids...so there are others you can try) and supplements

for me I keep hitting acne on multiple fronts...I get extraction facials, do regular peels, etc...

you just have to find what is right for you...me personally I would avoid antibiotics...but again you need to find what is right for you

Thanks for the replies and insights, really appreciate the kindness :)

I went to a skin specialist in London about a month ago and they tried to push the Obagi Medical regime on me which would set me back roughly £300, any experience with this? It consists of about 5 different topicals and seem like a massive over-kill which is just going to leave my face a dry and flaky mess (amazingly oily skin normally) but I'm so exasperated its looking pretty attractive right now.

Also, do you think it may actually be the antibiotics that are causing this bad flare-up? I have been on/off them for the past two years or so?

Mrsrobinson is right about the antibiotics, when antibiotics fail to cure your acne, the acne will return just as strong. I've been off and on antibiotics, and even though it cleared me up, the acne returned whenever I stopped. If it didn't cure it the first time, it won't cure it the other times, it's just a temporary fix. I would suggest eating healthy and taking supplements just as mrsrobinson suggested. I've been mostly clear ever since the change, and I haven't used any topicals/oral for a year

Antibiotics kill all the good bacteria in your gut as well as the bad and cause candida. I would look into taking probiotics and not eating sugar.

This is like the fifth time I've suggested this but a lot of people don't know how bad antibiotics are for you.

What supplements would you recommend?

Your acne is not bad at all, I had my last bad acne break about a year ago. I was put on retin-a which got it under control, I've stopped using retin-a for the past 3 months and my face is still acne free for the most part so I might just be in the clear now. That's just what helped me, I echo the advice of eating healthy and staying away from greasy foods. Also drink as much water as you can.

as for supplements, multivitamins appear to be the most effective. But, supplements are also dangerous, and can cause damage to the body as well. It's best to get the right amount of vitamins from food. My favorite food to get them from is carrots. I boil them, but sometimes eat them cold and straight out of the bag. They are loaded with vitamin A and fiber. And make sure your food is organic. I have found the pesticides that are in non organic foods have caused some breakouts.

Sorry if TMI. In short, ditch the artificial meds and go natural. And figure out what might be causing your acne, too!

Thanks guys for your replies, it really means a lot.

I'm just so frustrated because half of my acne in that first picture is just the scars and marks left behind, some have even been there since January and still won't budge. Ugh. I have to get on a flight today (2 actually) I can't wait to see the state of my skin after all that compressed air. I'm going to have to pee in the dark to avoid that harsh lighting in aeroplane toilets

The best way to cure the acne problems you should do the right healthy diet which is cool in nature.

Well, my skin just keeps getting worse and worse. I don't know why absolutely nothing is working anymore?

when you're stressing, and it rapidly becomes worse, usually it means you're probably putting your skin through too much right now. You should just drop any medications and treatments (including face wash) you are using, calm down, step away, and refocus. Then I suggest focusing on your diet like rightsmith just mentioned.

Diet is the number 1 suspect in the acne epidemic. All the changes in recent years to food production (the chemicals placed in food) have been a burden on people's digestive systems, causing them to develop food sensitivities, intolerances, and allergies which result in the side effects of acne, bloating, digestional pains, etc.

You're seeing it as worse than it really is. It's not that bad, chill.

I know a lot of people are saying your acne is not as bad as you think it is. While that may be true, I know how it feels to look at your acne and feel absolutely disgusted with yourself. My acne is pretty bad too, and I've tried a lot of face washes and astringents, etc. The only thing you can really do is just let your acne heal it's self, and don't use to many treatments at a time. Sorry if this doesn't make sense :P
