Hello,
12 days ago, I applied raw garlic on my forehead for 3 days ( once in a day) ( a size of cent area) and then it burned the skin and then in few days it peeled the skin and now there is dark patch at places where I applied garlic,

As now the area has healed completely.I am very worried about the dark patch,

question 1 - how long the dark patch will take to return to normal color?
question 2 - what are home remedies I can do for removing that dark scar?

THank you very much

Yikes! what made you decide to put garlic on your skin?
If you have a derm, I'd definitely talk to them about it so you don't cause further damage.

Does the dark skin feel like regular skin or is it kind of tight? Because from my experience whenever I accidentally burned my skin, the "darker" patch would eventually peel off too revealing pinkish skin underneath. You could apply something like aloe vera or emu oil or neosporin on it and hopefully that darker bit will come off.

thanks a lot for replying,

The darker bit has come off but now there is dark marks on the skin after peeling of skin and exposure of pinkish skin, this is new skin which came up , this is the image *after the dark peels came from skin*, (Because of that wound mark I used garlic paste on it ( my bad)

Wow! I would definitely apply ointment like polisporin to it, a and do your best to leave it alone. Unfortunately, that might scar, but healing ointment will help.

no, it wont scar, I consulted with two different Skin specialists and both said that it wont scar and it will take time around one month to scar to go away, they said to use sunscreen whenever I go outside.

Thanks for support.

Please be careful with your skin. Treat it with the utmost care and always do your research when trying unconventional methods because its not worth the gamble of long term skin damage. Apply some polysporin or neosporin to the area.

Hello,

1 DOnt get exposure to sunlight otherwise it WILL STAY FOREVER, use SPF if sunlight is un-avoidable

2 Massage twice a day with vitamin E oil

3. WAIT FOR ATLEAST 5 MONTHS THEN ONLY IT WILL GET BACK NORMAL TO YOUR SKIN COLOR.

Regards

Hi,

My child is 3 yrs old,2 months back she had pimples on her nose. Someone has advised me to put garlic on it. When she wakes up in morning I found burnt on that area. I went to pediatrics she advised me ointment for same. After few days it darkens, pink skin appears, later it turns to thin layer of skin which was white in colour so I have wait for few days for recovering into original skin colour. But it's 2 months now still I found white patch on her nose. Kindly advise me what to do? Coz still it's not recovering to original skin.????

@Sangita_15 You caused a burn on your child's nose with Garlic. Healing is taking a long time. Please go see a dermatologist or her pediatrician. A child's skin you don't want to mess around with. Aloe is healing try that, other healing things are comfrey and calendula.

@Mr kartheek ReddySounds like Hyperpigmentation. You have a few choices... see below nightly routine. You can spot treat. A retinoid, niacinamide, a lightening cream like the pca hydroquinone free pigment gel is good as well nightly. Glycolic or mandelic peels can help. If this does not work and it takes many months, pulse dye laser and or q-switch. Vitamin C Serum is also helpful.

Again it's a slow process, wear sunscreen!

@Mr kartheek ReddyI have over 100 PM's to help today of the worst scar cases so can't do a bunch of responses as lots of people to help. That being said wanted to help you.

Aloe will only help if it's a fresh wound. Vitamin E is worthless for your condition.

You need to work on hyperpigmentation, unless this is a fresh wound, then yes it would need to heal. See the above products for PIH.

@Mr kartheek ReddyDid you read what I put above? No maderma will not help hyperpigmetnation. You do not have a scar but hyperpigmentation. You may never get back normal skin, but you must heal and respond, best not to mess around and see a skilled practioner (cosmetic dermatologist) to treat your condition, this is how you got here in the first place.

I gave you solutions above, everything else will do nothing. It depends how you heal.

Without a pictuer I am giving you generalized advice based off your discription and the item used.

@Mr kartheek ReddyThanks for providing the picture, the above treatment plan I gave you is best. This will take some time to get some results, ... you may need q-switch/ pulse dye laser for discoloration aka hyperpigmetnation and someerbium laser depending . Be treated by a skilled practioner and ask for photos of other's who have similar issues. Can you heal, I cannot say, ... this is individual to everyone and how they respond to treatment. I gave you the best plan of action above

If your in India, you may opt to get excision of the scar instead of the above lasers, this is very skill dependent on your plastic suergon and I do not recocmend it first in this are, before other treatments are tried.

* Nightly before and after treatments until the issue is taken care of:

Use nightly: Retin-a or tretinorin(prescription), or Differin (Target/Walmart), The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid (if you can't get the above) or Avene or Osmosis (I am not a big fan of their other products) "Retinaldehyde" product (for sensitive skin). Cureology(USA) & Yoderm(USA) provide monthly - online prescriptions with customized skin care creams for your concerns, those in UK Dermatica provides the same thing. Apply a moisturizer when your face is dripping wet. Wait 5 minutes for it to dry, and then apply the tretinoin. This cuts down on irritation, you can also skip days of application (or do one or two days a week) if it's irritating and you need to build up %. This provides skin turnover - new collagen. To prevent (reds & browns from all Dr-treatments to ethnic skin or to work on current skin discoloration), try PCA hydroquione free gel for Hyperpigmentaion (Amazon) or Cureology/Yoderm/Dermatica includes this in their products if ordered. Using this prevents hyperpigmentation from treatments. Hydroquinone has side effects for some people, natural options are better with ingredients like: kojic acid/Konjac, Alpha Arbutin, Niacinamide by The Ordinary is great for large pores, discoloration, and inflammation. The Ordinary, Cerave, Eucerin (QV Skincare in AUS), Dr Sam Bunting Flawless Cleanser, Avene, La Roche-Posay (sensitive), and Acne.org's products are all great options for moisturizers and cleaners without fragrance / dyes / allergens. The Three most important things one can use are: Vitamin A skin turnover (retinol, retinaldehyde, retinoid), Vitamin C Serum which makes collagen, and a sunscreen (zinc oxide physical for sensitive skin - DRMTLGY Active Sunscreen, Elta MD Physical, La Roche).
