I'm 16 and suffer from acne since 14.

Acne has ruined my social life most of all.

This girl that bitched at me and gave up for being a unconfident.

No more Selfies!

I cant paint my face like the other kids do at pep rallies.

Getting worried that foods are going to cause more...

Can't look someone into eyes when they just constantly stare at my fucking face

Most of all, Acne pretty muched changed my personality, i used to be hyper and talkative, now im quiet and look sad all the time.

Even though acne is pretty much ruining my good days, it helped me with time management and well keeps my hygiene in order thats pretty much it.

Why don't you try to treat it? Check the regimen on this site. You can also still cover up by make up.

Uhhhhhh you don't think they're in the process of finding the right treatment? They stated right in the topic that they are taking the necessary steps in their diet and hygiene. "Why don't you just treat it!?!?" is so obnoxious. Damn near everyone who has acne is treating it, with everything they have.

Anyway, a lot. You can probably tell how bitter I am. I'm going on a decade with the issue. My acne finally cleared up this year completely but now I have body dysmorphic disorder and scars. You're so young! Continue the diet plan, that's my best recommendation. No dairy is what eradicated my problem. Diet, no harsh chemicals, don't pick. You already know the drill dealing with it for a couple years. You'll get through it, I promise. I know it can be so saddening and frustrating because you can't live the same way as others, but you need to look at it as a medical condition. If you haven't spoke to a doctor about it yet then consider that too. I wish you the best.

But I meant a real treatment. If you looked it up, you'd find that research has shown too little connection between diet and acne.

One can sometimes be intolerant to a certain type of food and react to it but that's rarely the case. Just because you were intolerant to dairy, doesn't mean it's the cause of acne for everyone out there. So instead of misleading people and wasting their time, let them try a proven acne treatment.

I cleared my skin with BP and antibiotics as well as diet. I do believe that the regimen and treatments like that are useful. I'm sorry I said no harsh treatments misleadingly. I just feel a lot of the low end drugstore products are ineffective. Especially in the long run. Anyone who denies the link between what your putting in your body and the bodily reaction of acne boggles my mind though. Every physician I've consulted with agrees, so I don't think I'm being wasteful encouraging a good diet. Especially when the op is already doing it. I just said keep it up.

Even if diet affects acne, it's rarely the solution. Your information seems largely influenced by "cure acne from the inside" articles and so are many physicians. The hype comes form the notion that hormones are affected by diet and the less calories you eat, the less androgens are released in your body, and the less oil you produce. Makes sense right? However, when we eat less calories we lose weight ,take in less vitamins and beneficial nutrients. Of course, eating greener and cleaner food is good for body health and may help with inflammation. But a good diet is still not enough for teating acne. One needs an effective topical treatment or, when topicals fail, oral treatments such as antibiotics and isotretinoin. I agree with you that most of drugstore treatments don't stand up to their claims. So one must do some research on active ingredients and see what suits him/her.

You're left with hormonal treatments if you're a female(can be very effective), light and heat therapies that provide short term results, and diet changes which can do little in my opinion.

I think that whatever works for any individual person is what they should continue doing for themselves for the betterment of their own specific situation. Acne is pretty subjective person to person, sure numerous things such as BP are universally known to help kill acne bacteria, but like what Kay24 is saying it all depends on the person. I personally also noticed an improvement in my skin when I started eating better and working out more. I started treating my body better so it in turn started treating me better. Not saying that a good regimen backed by empirical data is not important, it totally is, but I think the goal for us all is to be able to manage acne with as little foreign medications and chemicals needed as possible. At least it is for me, I don't want to be 40 and still doing a three step process every morning and night, along with the other things I do to keep my skin clear. Just my two cents, but I think the idea of "what I say works for everyone because it worked for me" is flawed logic.

i think a person should start with natural ways ...like diet ...many cured their acne with diet and others managed to control it

of course if that doesnt work you can try topicals

im a little against antibiotics ....and im really against accutane because its very dangerous and you can end up with side effects even after you're dont (i tried and sadly im a living proof)

well at the end i guess a person should start slowly from natural to chemical ...untill hopefully he finds his solution....its out there ...you just need to find it ...trust me

Ive been dealing with severe acne, hyperpigmentation, and scarring for about 10 years now. I kept a positive attitude about the world up until about a year ago. The constant harrasment and insults have turned me in to a monster. My stomach is constantly churning and I feel like Im experiencing an on going anxiety attack about when the next insult will come.

Now I go around harrassing people about their imperfections. I try to make everyone else as miserable as me and generally succeed. The only thing that brings me joy is making others miserable. The last time I was harrased about my skin, I shoved the guy on to a table, grabbed his shirt collar, and beat his face bloody.

I hate feeling like this

I thank God for acne. Without my struggles with acne, I would be an indolent girl with unhealthy eating habits. I now exercise everyday and eat healthy. Acne also contributed to my introverted like personality. I don't feel comfortable in social interactions and I don't have time for all the drama in an intimate relationship. Because of this, acne has given me tunnel vision focused solely on academics. I don't mean to brag, but I do believe I have a very high academic acumen compared to my peers; I would like to point out that Japan has one of the most rigorous academic cultures in the world. I have ambitions in becoming an Nurse Anesthetist ( I was thinking about getting an MD for Anesthesiology but the debt and schooling isn't worth it nowadays ), without acne, I wouldn't have desires for a highly specialized, high stress, high paying, respected field.

Acne was and is, a blessing in disguise. In life, sometimes it takes an traumatic emotional experience or failure to really "wake you up", and propel you in a positive way. Though, I won't lie, I still have an abhorrent view of acne. My face, though clear, still shows battle scars.

Stop viewing acne as something negative. Stop letting it control your life. YOU, control your life. Not some innocuous disease. Live life. Time waits for no one. One day you'll regret not experiencing life to the fullest, I would hate that feeling. All the successful people in the world has had failures, mishaps, trials and tribulations, but they got through that obstacle and achieved their wildest dreams. You haven't lived a fulfilling life if you don't achieve your dreams. That's what makes life enjoyable and fulfilling. Get comfortable with the uncomfortable; accept acne. Love yourself unconditionally.

LIVE NOW.

Acne has been the biggest negative life changing event in my life. I'm 21 yo old now but I've been a member of the org for some years, actually this is my first post in like a year.

As of today my skin has whats called ice pick scar, the one that bothers me the most are the ones on my nose 3 of them are VERY noticible. The sad part is that even though it looks the best it has since ive first got acne, compared to an average looking face its still crap.

Since I have absolutely no self confidence due to my long fight with acne (around 9 years). I have come up with a plan that involves me doing anything i can to make myself more attractive overall including braces for teeth, straighting my nose and having lazer for the scars.

But the problem is i havent been able to hold down a job because of acne so I literally have 0$ to do any of these things right now. Tbh I don't even want to think about how long it'll take to raise the money. But yeah my life is pretty much nothing like an average 21 yo should be. Needless to say im fucking sad as hell about it all. Recently i started drinking now that i can legally buy it it helps i guess but idk... I just wish i had a gf so bad.

Not just to do it either,I fell lonely without a femal partner thats whats bothering me the most right now that & my lack of friends. Because you see i had to move with my dad because i basically got kicked out of my moms house. So now im doing some hard labor (landscaping). My life here is way worse then when i lived with my mom. My living conditions were just way better with her. Anyways she says that shes willing to take me back if i can hold steady work but, im afraid of the possibility of my mental scars from acne once again forcing me to fail at making an income.

I really am in a sad situation right now dude... Ill say this ill probably be hanging around here with you guys for a bit lol.

I definitely know where you're coming from. Acne used to control my life, too. I went on accutane and now it's fine. However, I do think it's BS that there's no link between diet and acne. Whenever I breakout, it's because I over-ate or had too much sugar. I can't have candy any more because I will always break out. I wish I would have dieted earlier.

Acne has affected my life since I was still 12, and now I am 24 and still I have acne, but much lesser now.

Been a loner much my life due to acne, And even though I am 24 now I still haven't been in a real relationship with a girl, I always get rejected, cause acne is just ugly and girls just get turned off by it. doesn't really matter now, I can't change my genes. I can't turn back time.

Nowadays I just feel like a robot, I go out biking or walk at the malls and watch movies all alone. Don't really care about my acne anymore. I get 2 or 3 big ones each month, I just accepted how it is for me now. All I can say is acne will take a lot out your life. Makes you miserable when you look at yourself in the mirror. It always comes back to haunt you when your all alone at nights.

I'm a female in my early 30s and I can tell you acne scars had a major impact on my personal life. Had my first acne when I was just 10 and it ravaged my face until I was 27. Took birth control at one point to help me clear up. Never had a doctor suggest Accutane to me which I resent them for! I had a few guys attracted to me when I was in my early 20's. They weren't my type though. I always liked men who were 15-20 years older than me and who are smart. It is still the case even though I now know I have no chance. I didn't realize how much of an issue my skin was until a few years ago because no one was ever honest with me. Not the men who ran from me, not the store employees who remembered me years later on my second visit (I always wondered what made me so memorable) not the people who would rather stand than sit next to me on public transportation, not even the people closest to me like my friends and relatives. Other than some weird stares from strangers, everyone just pretended I look normal. That created a false sense of confidence in me. Think, someone butt-ugly who thinks they're just average looking. I thought something else about me was turning men off like that I don't have blond hair and huge breasts. I have a pretty good personality, a decent, skinny body, nice smile, pretty eyes, and a good facial structure. I used to not think of myself as unfortunate-looking or undatable. Now I know better. I am a horribly deformed creature in people's eyes. No wonder guys flee after seeing me up-close. I turn them off. Only drunk men hit on me but if they got sober and looked at me again, they'd run like hell. My relatives expect me to get married and have kids but I can see now that it's impossible. I could never even meet a guy who I'm not revolted by who'd sleep with me. And even if I became rich overnight, I'd still be alone forever. I read people's complaints about skin issues, look at their photos and think to myself, are they crazy? If I had only one small acne scar like they do, I'd be thrilled! I dread riding trains and looking at my reflection in car windows because I know that's what everyone sees when they look at me. Some people say everyone looks their worst in those reflective surfaces but I see other people who sit/stand next to me and they look the same reflected and not reflected. I never liked being photographed because I always turned out looking stupid so I didn't let people take pictures of me which was a big mistake because it would have at least made some red flags go off in me. Only three years ago had a relative to admit my skin does look bad but she diminished that statement by adding that it's no big deal I should just see a skin specialist. I've gone and now have tried every procedure and cream under the sun! Nothing makes it better. I am beyond hope at this point! Wondering if surgeons could take skin from my butt cheek and transplant it onto my face.
