What Do You Guys Think Would Work Best For These Acne Scars?

Recommended Posts

Hiya everybody. I recently finally got rid of my acne that I had been battling for 3 years through diet (started doing paleo/ but now wapf). But it left my face with a bunch of indented scars and red marks. I miss the clear smooth skin I once had so much. It seems so unfair, but at the same time, I'm thankful I went through this as I learned so much. Anyways, what treatment do you guys think would be most effective in treating these acne scars? I'm thinking maybe subcision-suction? But I also had read about the saline subcision which intrigued me.

The scars are mostly on my cheeks and some on my chin/ jawline.

Here's some pics, I tried playing with the light source, but they still aren't that great,; hopefully you guys can see the scars okay. I have a lil breakout in these pics (from trying out massaging my face, it did help a little bit, but mostly with just tone)

So what do you guys think? Also, does anybody know of any good doctors in california for this? Thanks

Yo! Those aren't too terribly deep, and they are evenly distributed. I would go to a medical spa (a place that provides paramedical skin treatments under the supervision or by actual MDs, or to a board certified cosmetic surgeon and ask about Obaji Blue/Jessner's peels and Coolaser, or comparable treatments.

Poke around on Realself.com for peels and laser, there are tons of pics and the doctors are VERY active on the site. If you are in SoCal, you have your pick of the litter for doctors. I go to Epione in Beverly Hills (for fillers.)

But plenty on subcision suction on this board!

*I'm partial to the peels/lasers for their regenerating/anti-aging benefits- peels are more affordable.

TCA peels will help get rid of the redness, subcision +suction will help level the scars. Don't go anywhere near a laser until you try subcision first though, because lasers won't do anything if your scars are tethered down as they appear to be in your pictures. Subcision is also pretty inexpensive.

If you have the money you could go and see dr khan. Harley skin clinic in London.

I am no specialist, but I would say either subcission, fraxel or co2 recell. Maybe a combination.

The best results I have seen where from Ernesto and he had a combination treatment for very deep scars by dr khan.

Wow, thank you all for your suggestions! I really appreciate it a lot! lol. Honestly, the redness doesnt bug me that much, as I'm sure they'll fade with time. The indented scars on the other hand.... I dont like them lol. I have to admit I am glad I have them though, because I never realized how frustrating acne and acne scars are. My skin was always pretty clear before this and healed fast whenever I did have a breakout, and I had taken it for granted. Going through this really gave me another perspective on things and broadened my way of thinking on so many levels. And I never knew how bad acne and acne scars can actually affect one's confidence before. Its been a very opening experience and I'm really glad I'm going through this. That said, I still dont like these scars lol.

(Sorry for that little vent-speech thingy lol)

I made an appointment with a dermatologist to talk about acne scar treatments. I'll see what he has to say, and then I'll ask my mom's dermatologist for a second opinion. I think I want to go with the subcision-suction method, but I'll see. Hopefully I'll be able to stomach the procedure as I read that you can hear popping sounds with subcision >.< lol. Then maybe I can do a chemical peel after i healed/ or laser. Or maybe I should try to do a fraxel repair at the same time I get the subcision done? I'm just afraid the suction wouldnt work as well if my face is scabby?

i'm sorry to hear your having elasticity problems :( Other than being gentle with how I clean my skin and eating clean, I found the bone broth and healthy fats helped with my skin quite a lot. After trying out so many products to try and get rid of my acne (none of which worked) it really messed up my skin, and my face was starting to get wrinkled and dried out. But after cutting out all those products and adding in bone broth and healthy fats, my skin's getting back to normal (besides the scars). It's not an overnight fix of course. I wish I could have some better advice to help you.

On another note, I have a subcision scheduled for next week! I hope everything goes well! I'll try and post pics a couple weeks after the procedure if I remember lol

I find myself posting less and less. Go directly to Fraxel Re:Pairat high mj settings 60-70 mj, and high percentage 60%. You will need several treatments spaced at least 6 months apart. You can choose to dance with the other treatments, but you will eventually turn to Re:Pair.

A moderate to deep TCA-based peel series from a medical spa- one in which there is an MD or board certified cosmetic surgeon overseeing, I'd say.

3-4 with 25% improvement each time. Or laser, same results, though you pay a bit more for the technology. You could have perfectly smooth skin in a year, depending on how good you are with aftercare and how quickly you heal. Between medical peels, you can do you own home peels. The more you peel, the more turnover. The more turnover, the more even your texture will be.

I don't know why people get so gloom and doom-y when peels are such no-brainers.

I don't know that any of us will ever be really content. Re:pair gave me enough improvement that scars are not omnipresent in my mind. I am older than anybody else here so my next move is a facelift, and then I will see if I need any further Re:pair treatments. I am moving into another realm with plastic surgery to address the effects of aging. I am quite active and still working full time, and I am dating younger women, so I will Go Go Go until my body tells me No No No. LOL

Thanks so much for all the advice! I'm still planning on having laser done (i'm thinking maybe the CO2 mixto). Or maybe a chemical peel. But I really need to look into lasers and peels more, and weigh the pros and cons better... its so confusing lol. But for now i'm gonna try out the subcision-suction method and see how much improvement I can get from this. :D

Yeah, I will normally cut up a whole chicken, put it in a pot of cold water with a couple tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar for 30-60 mins, then and cook it on low for 8-24 hours. Then I'll discard the bones, and keep the chicken to use in soups or burritos or salad, etc. I'll also make beef bone broth pretty often (i cook beef bone broth for 24 hours on low). I maybe drink about a cup a day, more or less. There are days I dont drink any, and other days I drink more esp if I make soup with it. I do eat veggies, probably not as much as I should though. But I'll eat salad pretty often since I grow lettuce and spinach in my little garden. And I 'll eat carrots, cauliflower and cucumber, zucchini, squash, sweet potato, etc. Oh I do eat a lot of fermented veggies though such as fermented pickles, okra and sauerkraut And I also eat a lot of fruit. I loove fruit lol.

y do u cook it for tht long??? o.o

usually when soup is being made at our home we cook it like ~30-40 mins (chicken + veggies)

y soo loong? wht for??? :/ :/ :/

can u mayb also grind bones n eat them too btw? r they good for skin repair, colagen etc?

Thats tough man, I'm glad your almost content, but I really hope you can find real happiness. Of course, not everyone wants to get married or have a significant other. But dont let your scars cloud your dreams if that is what you want. A significant other definitely isnt out of the picture for anybody no matter the appearance. I'm a girl, and I found the most perfect guy ever who loves me despite me having acne and scars, in fact I would have never met him if I hadn't gotten acne. And moreover acne saved me from a really bad relationship. Please don't ever give up on what you desire. Your really not a bad looking guy at all.proud.gif

As someone who's gotten two very intense chemical peels, I'd advise against getting them for actual scar repair. Maybe for some finishing touches (?)

They don't do much to repair scars, but are pretty effective in repairing discoloration and texture in unscarred skin.
