I have been using Epiduo once before and It worked very good. I switched from the regimen to Epiduo and had no big problems whatsoever. I decided to quit the regimen because of the dryness, redness and all the time you'll spend on applying all the stuff to your face twice a day. I wanted a more simple routine and Epiduo gave me that.
After a couple of months on Epiduo I had to renew my prescription but It never happened because of laziness and I thought my acne was under control. I decided to replace the nightly Epiduo with the regimen once a day. After a couple of months my acne was back.
I got a new prescription and i'm back on Epiduo for a week now. Right now my skin is in the purging-state and my skin looks terrible. I'm looking forward to clear skin again I hope it works this time as well.
My current routine
Mornings:
Acne.org cleanser
Acne.org moisturizer
Nights:
Acne.org cleanser
Epiduo
Acne.org moisturizer + Jojoba Oil
I'll do some updates in this thread.
Day 9
My skin isn't terrible. I got a few small pimples and combined with the red marks and the acne from before. It doesn't look good, but i'm still positive.
I'm not experiencing burning and dryness, but some skin-itching. I take it as a good sign. The retinoids must be working in my pores.
Right now it bugs me that I have to take a week off the Epiduo in September due to the fact that I have scheduled an appointment with a Derm to perform a laser "surgery". I have a genetic skin condition that creates small red dots a few places on my face. Normally it takes a week for my skin to heal after a laser surgery like that.
I love epiduo! I didn't to begin with it made my skin so itchy dry red and flaky I was so embarrassed but I'm glad I went through that to get clear skin!
Hope it works well for you too x
It's good stuff. I've used it before during a 2,5 month period. I stopped because I thought my acne was under control and instead of using Epiduo I just used BP once a day (at night).
Now i'm back on Epiduo and is hoping it will work this time as well. The main reason for ditching the regimen is the dryness, the constant red face and all the time you spend applying and waiting.
It is a more simple routine with just on appliance a day
How long time did it take for results for you?
Thanks a lot.
To be honest, I have never tried the regime so I can't comment on that, I use to look on this website for motivation and inspiration as my acne made me really really depressed to the point where I was diagnosed with depression. I have only recently joined as a member and will probably add photos soon as I have uploaded some (I'm on a new laptop)
I started epiduo in March 2014 and then a couple of weeks later I started taking erythromycin which is an antibiotic, this is normally for infections but can be used for acne and symptoms of rosacea as my acne was often very red and angry.. I didn't actually see any proper results for a while as the first couple of months I went through the purging stage, I didn't see any real results until the end of July/ beginning of August, I now have no pimples, just the scars from all my old acne but my skin has improved hell of a lot.
I also use the Cetaphil face cleansers and moisturiser every morning and night and apply epiduo at night and this seems to have cleared it up.. I have been on so many different types of medication to try and sort my acne out and this is by far the best thing for me. It is still early days and I am worried that it may come back but I'm quite strict with keeping on top of my routine.
I am very happy that I have finally managed to do something about it as my acne got me to the point where I wouldn't go out and socialise as I felt like people would judge me and I lost a lot of my confidence due to it, so thankfully slowly but surely I'm regaining that confidence!!
My only advice is that even if you think your acne is getting better, still continue with whatever treatment as more than likely it will come back and with a vengeance! I thought it was hell when I first started using epiduo, the redness and itchiness on my face was unbearable but I'm glad I stuck with it because I have never seen results like this before! So happy!
But keep in touch, I hope it gets better! I will upload some pics soon x
Thank you for your post
Yeah it's very important to just keep up with a regimen that works.
I still hope that my acne symptoms will subside in a couple of years (my mother had acne in her 20's as well)
Congratulations on getting clear. You look gorgeous on your profile pic 😉
Actually I don't "need" to get 100 % clear. A couple of pimples don't ruin my day, but right now my skin looks horrible in my opinion although my acne probably would be considered mild normally (moderate right now). Normally I just love to socialize and meet new people. Right now I just want to stay inside and be alone. I just handed in my master thesis and therefore i'm just home and don't have to go out besides grocery shopping. Good timing
It's funny how a couple of new pimples can ruin a good day. A new pimple just formed on my chin. But then again. It's only day 10.
I know how you feel, regardless to whether it's mild or severe acne it's still a condition that affects you mentally too..
Mine was probably classed as mild compared to some of the photos I've seen on here, I know mine could probably have been a lot worse but it still makes you want to stay in the house and not want to socialise so I understand how you feel.
I know it will be impossible to get 100% clear skin and I will never have the best skin, my mother also suffers with acne (she's 44 and still taking antibiotics for her so I have no hope!) but thank you
My skin's clear at the moment but I suppose I'm feeling stress free at the moment, I defiantly notice an increase in my pimples if I'm overworked, tired or generally in a low mood. Maybe it's good timing you've handed in your masters and now you have time for yourself to just relax and chill!
Stay positive You're only on day 11 this time in a few weeks hopefully it will be a different story!
xx
Day 13
Not much to tell. Skin is slowly improving. Old acne is fading. A couple of active pimples right now.
I'm feeling postive at the moment I haven't experienced serious dryness. I moisturize twice a day. The only thing is the itchy skin.
I just hope I don't have to face some major breakouts from now on. Fingers crossed.
Hope things are going well! Hope the purging stage clears up soon!
I had my review at the doctors the other day he's going to reduce my antibiotics as he doesn't want me to build up a resistance I just hope my skin doesn't go back downhill! Still applying Epiduo religiously! My best friend at the moment lol
Much love xx
Hey Caitlinx
Thanks for your thoughts. Things are okay. I had a laser surgery this friday, because I have a genetic skin disease which produces same small red marks on my skin. Right now I can't use Epiduo on those places because of the wounds. While having the laser surgery I told the dermatologist (a world famous one), that my disease didn't bother me that much, but acne did and he therefore prescribed me some antibiotics to take for 6 weeks twice a day to kill the bacteria.
Besides that I should just keep using Epiduo.
I've been following your updates as you started Epiduo round about the same time I did
I'm currently on day 21, going through an initial breakout that looks fairly bad considering I was almost clear after only a week! Just sticking with it knowing that it has helped so many people. I think the strangest thing is getting types of acne that I never got before e.g. papules and blackheads instead of cysts and whiteheads/closed comedones. The blackheads are huge, they are easily like holes in my face around the size of a biro-point. It's so difficult trying not to poke and squeeze at them!
I have noticed a total lack of redness and irritation now when I apply it, sometimes it burns/stings a little bit after applying moisturiser but that's all. My skin actually feels a little bit oily and I'm not sure why. I've been tempted to skip the moisturiser but scared that my skin will overproduce oil if I do, so a bit of a catch-22 situation.
The major issue for me is the peeling, but obviously this is something that I just have to go through to get to all those deep clogs.
Before this I did a month of Erythromycin (only made things worse and the side effects were terrible), and I started Tetracycline (Lymecycline) the same day I started Epiduo.
Good luck with the rest of the treatment, will be good to follow your updates!
