ivyagogo 6 Posted March 4, 2014 Hi everyone. My 13 year old son is starting on isotretinoin today. I had quite a time at the pharmacy today. The only medication they could get for me today at 30mg was going to cost over $500! Yikes! They were able to get me Claravis, but only at 20mg. The doctor said to start him on this. Luckily, we just met our $200 pharmaceutical deductible. That was fast. Anyway, my son has been battling acne for a year now and it has recently gotten very bad. We did a month on the doxycycline and that only made matters worse so here we are today. I really had a hard time deciding to let him go on this medication. It's so scary as a parent, but I can see his confidence getting shaken by this acne and really had to do something. Here we are on day 1.
ivyagogo 6 Posted March 7, 2014 You can't really tell from the pictures, but he also has a lot of black heads. He has a ton of just above his pects. They look like tiny little splinters.
CarpeMomentum 117 Posted March 7, 2014 Sending you and your son lots of positive support on his journey and treatment. It is heartbreaking I am sure to see your child suffer. You are an amazing parent that cares so much and is helping. I only wish my Mom or Dad were aware enough to help me.
ivyagogo 6 Posted March 11, 2014 No real change after the first week. I feel so badly for him. His back bled right through his sweatshirt the other day. Luckily, no side effects so far.
