I think it might help some of the smaller ones. Keep us updated with your progress. I'm thinking about trying a retinoid again for my clogs but I am nervous because the last time I tried it (before I took accutane) my skin became sooo oily.

I'd look at this.

That is why I post about AllDayChemist. I have placed 4 orders with them, mostly for Viagra (I am older), and I have been totally satisfied. The last time I visited my Urologist we were laughing because he orders from them also.

Retin-A won't do much for scars, though it helps with the general condition of your skin, which will make your skin look better overall.

Going to the derm initially to get a prescription can be a pain, and expensive. I asked for several refills, and with insurance, the Retin A was less than $15 for a 45g tube and you know for sure you're getting the real deal.

I too have been using the same strength retina-a as you for the past two months and I do think it helps a lot with hyperpigmenation and I do feel some of my scars have improved quite nicely as far as using it both day and night that is a definite no. You are only supposed to use it at night after you wash your face and using a small amount evenly on your entire face. Applying more than you need will only dry your skin out excessively and it won't make the medicine work faster or better and you would just be wasting product. If you just started using retin-a it's normal to be very dry and red but it should go away with continued use.

I hate the US medical system.

I was breaking out one time, and started freaking out because I didn't want any scarring, so went to get some Retin A quickly..

It cost me like $200 to see a doctor to get a prescription, but it was a general doctor, so it was like no refill.

And he's like, I'll have to refer you to a Derm cause I normally don't write prescriptions for skin related stuff.

I'm like, are you freaking kidding me? Is this stuff really that difficult to use? Now I'm expected to pay another $200 to see a derm to "get permission" to use a topical gel that is pretty freaking easy to use.

On top of that is the cost of the prescription itself.

Meanwhile, I could have just ordered it from Thailand pretty cheap, without all this extra cost and hassle.

Note to everyone, order from Thailand, save money, less hassle.

It took me a couple weeks for the peeling to stop. Moisturizing really helps keep it down though. I'm intriuged that it may help small icepicks. I have a few icepicks on my cheeks which I assume are not too deep because they occured from pretty small blemishes. I'm putting some retin a in them every night now. Hopefully it helps at least a little.

Hey leadingforce. It's awesome you are updating everyone about your retin A journey but I think it would be a much more scientific approach to take pics, at least on a weekly basis, of your improvements. That way, hopefully, you will actually be able to VISIBLY SEE improvements. Does that make sense? It's not like I don't appreciate the thread, but it is way more objective when I can see a picture (preferably in bad lighting) of someone's scars, and have them repeatedly take a picture with the same level of zoom and in the same lighting and in the same room over time. This way I can really see if you are actually improving. I think people are heavily biased both when assessing the severity and improvement of their scarring, so I really frankly do not trust anyone's word here; in return, you definitely should not trust me if I ever say something is "helping," because I am obviously biased in favor of my own improvement when I am putting time, effort, and money into doing something to improve my scars. It's only right I'd want to make myself BELIEVE it is working. The issue is that the gap between what we believe and what is reality, especially when concerning our appearance, can be quite a wide one. Pictures taken in the same room at the same time of day in the same lighting over time WILL NOT LIE or be subjective about your improvements, if you have any.

I think this is extremely important because for me, being a patron of the omgihavehyperpigmentationthissucks group, my face literally goes through several stages of redness/lightness throughout just a 12-hour day alone. We might be seeing changes when trying something out that are simply a result of those types of fluctuations (i.e. we experience a lighter skin tone during one part of the day, and a super red skin tone during another part of the day). I am not 100% sure if this is the case for you, but all other things being equal, I think pictures of your skin, posted once a week, over the time you are using this product, will not only show YOU for sure whether you are improving or not, but it will definitely help members of the board (such as myself) to make a decision on whether or not retin A is a feasible approach to hyperpigmentation treatment.

I really hope you decide to go for it and post some pics. I would personally appreciate it very much, and I know you will not regret giving yourself an objective viewpoint toward your improvement. I will reciprocate by posting pics of my own if I ever start doing anything more serious than cleansing+moisturizing (haha). I'm still only 2-3 months out from finishing accutane though so I think I will wait a few more months before doing anything like toning/exfoliating. But when I do, you have my word I'll be posting here with pics. Also if you'd like to check out my current condition I have pics up in a thread either on the first or second page of this forum. The title starts with "pih+scarring."

Have a good one man.

It seems like the actual red marks you have aren't terribly large. But your face on the whole is a bit red. Is that due to the retin A, or is that something that you were trying to treat with the retin A? I assume it is the latter; from what I've read retin A does make your skin red. Is there any way to combat that? Has it been that way all the time? Have you been using sunscreen every day? And up to this point, how long have you actually been on retin A?

In my own subjective assessment of your current condition, I think you are in an awesome position already. Your skin is pretty much flat - no real pitting or scarring that I could see. You basically just have to remove those red marks, which is totally doable over time with the right treatments. It's just little red marks on either side of your face that you're dealing with. None of them are particularly large. Still, though, you do HAVE hyperpigmentation, so I as a fellow sufferer am very interested to see how your marks respond to the retin A over the next 6-8 weeks. Just keep posting weekly pics. If you don't remember, I'll remind you ;)

Thanks again for your contribution.
