Hey guys,

I'm a guy who lived a normal life until after my 16th birthday. Then my acne became worse and worse. I tried literally everything, every soup, tried to change my diet radically, tried TONS of acne products, I even bought an Antiacne warmth machine that would help significantly for 350 dollars. It didn't help shit. I got so much acne in a few months that most people don't get in their lives. My face was like a volcano. I even used make-up to hide some of the worst acne. When people asked about the "orange powder on my skin" I said it was an acne cure.

Finally I was put on Accutane in May, it helped clear all my acne but the acne scars was still there. This was almost six years ago.

I am now 22 years old and I'd like to give whatever it takes to improve my acne scars.

I am Finnish but lives in Sweden and I still have little acne, but I want to know what you guys think is the best treatment for my scars when my acne is gone?

The green circles in the pictures are of what I think is atrophic scars on my cheek and temple.

The white circles is "rolling scars" and the red circle is a hypertrophic scar.

And overall:

I have some remaining acne on my chin and probably I need to be fully clear for some of these treatments?

I could maybe fly to London and have the Enerjet.. Hmm..

What do you guys think?

Topical treatments known to smooth the texture of skin are retin-A (or retinol), glycolic acid, lactic acid and even salicylic acid will help to some extent. Just be sure not to over do it, you could give yourself a chemical burn. I'd start by trying a glycolic acid treatment (AHA) for myself this has been most effective for indented scars. Nothing has completely gotten rid of mine though, they are much better than they were. Exfoliation is the key!

I would say fractional co2 laser + subcision on cheeks and fractional co2 on temples would work best for you IMO. You would need a few treatments most likely.

Your cheek scars look a lot like Mr Matt's on here -

yep agreed, check out MrMatt's posts on subscision - and follow up with a suction device --there is a great study posted on the owndoc.com forum about subscision with suction and they sell a very cheap suction device----that would do it for your cheeks which are otherwise smooth

on your temples I would go with a series of fraxel treatments

good luck to you! and since you are only breaking out on your chin, that's fine, just don't do anything to that area....which sounds like it isn't a problem anyway

Thank you very much, why do you belive this? :)

Right now I am taking BHA 2% by Paula's Choice for my acne and I've also bought AHA 8% which I have tried a little but I am not sure it will really help against my scars, and it is just temporary. How much % in the AHA and for how long did it take until you started to see progress? In the long run I think it's better to fix it permanently - somehow.

Why do you think fractional co2 laser would be best?

Yeah I have read that thread earlier and I'm really glad it worked out for him. What is the price in the states for subcision? Here in Sweden it is 1450 dollar. Do you guys know if he took more photos of the process than those in the first post?

What do you think is the best for the hypertrophic scar?

Suction device? What is this? Any way you could translate that to Swedish? :)

Thanks for the answers guys, any opinion about dermarolling/dermapen that could help some of my scars (which?)? I have read so much good about it and a local clinic has a good price (I think), 250 dollars for a 75min session with the dermapen together with a new swedish invention called "Collrix" which is supposed to be fish collagen and seems promising, but then I I found this article: http://owndoc.com/dermarolling/dermapen-causes-skin-micro-tearing/

Maybe that is nothing I should be afraid of if I do it on a clinic?

If you think dermarolling/dermapen is good, is it effective against rolling scars and hypertrophic scar (which I believe it is)?

Sorry for all the questions.

Alright, thank you very much for this information!

So do you think I should go for the dermapen session at a clinic with the fish collagen for 250 dollars? What would you recommend? Or maybe buy the Dermapen myself? Would they work with some of my scars, what wouldn't it work against?

Thanks :)

Damn, even soup didn't work. Your acne must have been pretty bad.

Your scarring looks very minor to me and judging from those photos its really only noticeable in the most oblique light. In most of the pictures I couldn't see anything. Your skin looks good.

I agree your, skin looks really good. Mine usually does but every once in awhile ill get a sight of the one on my cheek in a certain angle of light and it just looks worse than it really appears to otherwise. Right now trying to exercise, eat extremely healthy and drink plenty of water to help with red marks. Also looking into aha to further the results with those. I am still battling acne at 23 doing whatever it takes for a brighter future without its presence constantly showing itself anywhere from my shoulders to face even on the groin area which has calmed down a lot.

your skin looks really good. I have done all the lasers and would recommend it for your skin since your scars look very mild. Try a fractionated co2 laser. Be careful about Drs trying to scam you by showing you pictures of significant improvement. Lasers take time to show the results since they work by building up collagen that you lost (hence the pitted skin). This process can take some time and will require at least several treatments to get good results. Your skin looks great compared to mine. Shop around and you'll be fine.

I wonder if you think that dermarolling/Dermastamp/Dermapen would be good on my acne scars?

Also been checking out the single needling, do you think it would work on my hypertrophic scar for example? And the rest?

a course of laser treatments would cure you. your scars are very mild. I would do a ablative erbium or c02 laser. Within maybe 3-4 treatments should cure you.

Speaking from personal experience, I would recommend clearing the existing acne before moving on to corrective procedures for acne scarring. I had 5 corrective procedures before taking medication to clear out the occasional cystic acne I had. To my detriment, I acquired a few new scars along the way.

Now I am taking isotretinon (Accutane) to clear out all of my acne for good, and will have to have more corrective work done in the future. Please follow my example, and save yourself the time and money.

Now used the 0.5mm dermastamp for the first time on entire face.

Will try to eat healthy. Using a Vit C Serum afterwards/Every 24h the following days (works for me as a moisturizer as well), taking protein as well (Liquid_Ocelots tip). Also eat every day vitamins.

I haven't dared using LED lights yet.

I didn't go so much (Wasn't much blood, just some very tiny drops here and there) since it was the first time and everything looks as planned so far. Also tried the pressure method on my atrophic scar for 30 seconds.

Skipping the Vit C Serum since its not good for the acne I have on my chin. I just go with a cleanser + a moisturizer now + keepping stamping regularly every 3rd/6th/8th week :)

Since I find it more convenient to have as little down time as possible, I stamp all of my scars every 6th - 7th week. After the treatments I now use the handheld Red/Infrared Leds from theledman for 5 minutes per area as llamar and Liquid_Ocelot have done. I've been quiet lazy with moisturizing the skin and that may have been important for my skins ability to heal but I will keep that up now.

Hey Julian,

How's the stamping coming along? Have you noticed any improvment?

Hey Julian,

Heyah pineappleXpress!

Yeah I really think so, now it's been half a year since I started dermastamping and I believe I can see quite a process. It is hard to know exactly but when I took those pictures in the start of this thread I was using AHA so the scars seemed better than they actually were I believe. It's also hard to tell but I saw that you also thought the process went faster after using LEDS and a moisturizer and I must agree. It feels like the scars are mostly visible if you stand in certain angles/directions and look straightly onto the scars (like straight sunlight and stand and look on the scars from a certain angle and strong mirror lights)

I've read some of your posts and I really think you should follow the dermastamping+LED path. It is safe, sure it takes time but the more you stamp/roll the better you will get at it and also I believe the skin will get "used to it" and the improvement will go faster and faster.

I have seen that lots of friends have acne scars just because I've seen them in mirror lights /straight in the sun and they doesn't seem to be bothered and also I'm sure noone cares about it.

I've seen your pictures and I think your scars look perfectly fine, don't do anything hasty like weird operations or stuff which outcome can make it worse. I mean, now with LED+a good mosturizer and you learning the technique it will go faster and faster and IMO guys wouldn't care about your scars, at least I wouldn't.

One more thing: I think after using this procedure for a while you get better (more accurate) at "inspecting the skin" so you can REALLY notice your scars and get to know them after a while. Most people won't even notice some scars you've got) I'm sure if you had a before-after picture for 6 months it will look waaaay better. Imagine how it looks like in a year! Liquid_Ocelot and the other guys who succeeded are hopefully us in the future :)
