Wow i never would have thought if be posting in here. I never had bad acne until i turned 19... Most of it was due to birth control. Anyways, I started getting bad cystic acne and here I am.

Last week, I got a lactic acid chemical peel and noticed a little difference. I've decided to keep up with it at home.

I bought a 60% lactic acid peel with 5% kojic acid. It should arrive within the net couple of days. I plan on doing my first peel with it on Thursday, which is a week after my next one.

I'm a strong believer in pictures so I've attached some from today and will continue do so every Monday after my peels.

I plan on giving this regime 6 weeks to show some change before I move on.

Posting results a little early because I'm so excited... I can't believe this is just the next day after my first peel

Sorry the images keep posting sideways, idk how to change it

But as you can see that giant red mark on my chin has been significantly reduced!

so it's been 4 days since my peel and i could not be more happy.

my skin didn't peel at all but there was a lot of flakyness/dry spots which i did my best not to pick at

for my first time using these peel i'm AMAZED. my red marks have decreased in color by about 40% and a few of them vanished completely!!! after just one use! i thought it would take 3 weeks to get the kind of results that i did.

i've been putting on a moisturizer with salsylic acid during the day (cvs brand)... which i know is not the best to use but my skin did purge a little from the peel and i wanted to make sure nothing got out of control... along with sunscreen.

at night i washed my face with just a simply neutrogena face wash and then applied my lemon juice spray (which is just lemon juice mixed in with water in a spray bottle) and used some benzyl peroxide spot treatment on my breakouts (i didn't use it for the first 2 nights). the lemon juice i think really helped not only speed up the healing process, but tone down my hyper pigmentation and keep my skin really bright and clean.

i know someone voiced a concern about waiting for things to heal, and this peel completely accelerated the process.. i had scabs falling off 2 days after the peel

this is the third peel i've ever gotten, my first time doing it on my own, and i've never had this kind of result from a professional peel. if anyone is struggling with acne scars and red marks, this is the way to go!!!

i'm in the middle of studying for a midterm but i'll post pictures later today or tomorrow! prepare to be amazed (;

So bummed today... I just hit the third week of my first pack of tri-previfem (the generic for tri ortho cyclin) birth control and broke out in three cysts on my chin as well as another breakout on my cheek

I used some of the lactic acid on them last night for just 30 seconds and the inflammation completely went down but I'm still left with dark scabs

I decided to stop taking birth control because cystic acne is the devil and started up my minocyclin prescription again (which I've been off of for 6months)

Hopefully this will bring my breakouts under control so I can start the heeling process again

sorry i've been out of it for awhile!

i switched my birth controls as the last one gave me terrible cystic acne which got infected and i ended up with impetigo

i was put on ziana which I LOVE and highly recommend. I still use it and it's amazing. I use it for spot treatment so if i feel a zit coming on, i put some on overnight and it's gone the next morning. it's a retinoid so it's been helpful with some of my red marks as well

i went back to the peel tonight except i only spot treated for 30 seconds because im going to be a lot more careful. i then put vitamic C serum all over my face and applied my ziana over where i peeled

Wow! I am so hopeful that 50% lactic acid works as well for me as it has for you. My entire jaw is basically red with marks. It's terrible and very embarrassing for me :/

I hate them :/ i feel like having no active acne is so much less of a success when I still have the marks

This peel has made a big difference though... My advice would be to be gentle with it and try not to leave it on for too long or use it too often. Once a week for 30 seconds to a minute has been great for me

I got a Vbeam treatment today and will be blogging about that in the meantime. I like this peel a lot for superficial marks but didn't have the patience for it to get to my deeper ones. I will be using it every few weeks for maintenance but will no longer be relying on this to solve my hyper-pigmentation problems.

so my new regime is to do peels on every 1st and 15th of the month. I got a VBeam treatment about 2 weeks ago and then did a peel 4 days ago and WOW i am so thrilled with the way my skin looks. I am finally getting results from the laser treatment and then adding this peel... my marks are down by about 60%

Your skin looks really beautiful! What brand of peel did you use? I've never done a peel, but I use 5% Glycolic acid every other night and it's sloooooowly fading my red marks. I'd love to fade them a little faster and a peel seems like a great idea-- especially seeing your results!

i'm using Infinite Skin! it's 60% lactic acid with 5% kojic acid. i like it because it doesn't make my skin peel so there's no down time with it, just remember to moisturize

Thanks! I didn't get the same peel as you, but it's similar! I'll let you know how it all goes. Right now, I have a scab on my chin, so I want to wait until it heals before I put the peel on it. Did you put the peel on active acne? I've been reading up on "How to Do An At-Home Peel," and a lot of the articles say not to-- but it seems like it might help them go away sooner. Mostly, I'm looking to get rid of red marks, although I still get some acne around my period.

Heitea, any time I did a peel on an active acne spot I didn't find it had any negative effect. Whiteheads seemed to dry up a bit because of it. It made the under the skin spots redder (as with the rest of my skin) but that faded soon afterward. The only thing was that it hurt a bit more on spots with active acne because they were already tender so it stung more. Hope this helped. :)

Kalinka,

Thank you! Very helpful! Good to know, because who knows if I'll have something active on my face when I'm ready to do the peel haha...Nice to know that I won't have to diligently avoid it! I'll take before and afters for anyone who's interested!

I've actually had mixed results withactive acne.. I've noticed that it tends to irritate and blister the spot, making it much bigger than it was before. Others were dried out

I avoided my active acne for the most part so that I could treat them separately overnight. My peel didn't irritate my face at all, but it most definitely increases my cell turnover. I've used it 3 times now and have increased the time that I've left it on by 4 minutes. I leave it on for 5 minutes total now before I wash it off. My peel is lactic acid and glycolic acid.

How often are you using it? And what's the concentration?

I'm using it weekly so far, but I might use it every 3-4 days since it doesn't irritate my skin. I can tell it takes a layer or two off, though, because my skin sort of lightly peels over the next couple days after applying it.

It's 30% Glycolic Acid/30% Lactic Acid. This one: http://www.amazon.com/Glyco-Lac-Level-Gel-Peel-30/dp/B000PNTQW0

Hey Aztec girl,

While you were in ziana and using lactic acid at the same time. Did you notice anything difference on your skin or did your doctor said not to use peels while on ziana. I'm asking because my derm prescribed me with ziana and I've been using it for like 5 months now. I don't have no more zits but when I stop using it they start coming out again. And I want to start using lactic acid, but I read on this website that its bad to do peels while on retinoids. So how did it go for you while using them at same time? Any complications?

Sorry for the long post.
