I need to stop picking at my face! I'm starting accutane soon and if I pick at my face it will take longer to heal, because accutane apparently slows down the healing process! argh! Also I have very sensitive skin, whenever I pick the spot and the area around it become really red and the redness doesn't fade for a really long time! I always pick at my face at school and then get embarrassed by how red it is and try to cover it with makeup...which just makes it worse!!

Welcome! You should join us all in overcoming this picking habit! This thread has already helped me greatly reduce the amount of picking that I do :) I totally understand how having a red face from picking is embarrassing. I always feel ashamed after doing it.

Jack, that's great! :D It's so nice when other people acknowledge your efforts and gains! Yay!

OH snap! I can't pick now! lol. Do not have 100 dollars to give away. Looks like absolutely no picking for me! :P But seriously...no picking at all for a week? Done and done. You challenged. I accept.

Well done Jack! It just shows your determination not to pick is paying off! That must feel good.

I still haven't picked... it must be nearly two weeks now! I think I should reward myself with a new dress or something :P

I'm actually not breaking out much at the moment, I've seen a big difference since I started taking coconut oil but I'm unsure if something can have an effect that quickly!

How is everyone else doing?

Seems like everyone is doing well I think this thread really helped me be more conscious of my picking, as in "well if I pick at that I'll have to report it later" lol.

My skin has healed so much, it's amazing. How long has it been, like two or three weeks? It's crazy how when we're in a bad time it feels like it will take forever, but it passes by so quickly.

Here's a pic with makeup on:

And one without makeup:

You can see that most of the spots are just hyperpigmentation, since foundation covers them up nicely. The "big" scabs are noticeably more shallow and smaller in size. I'm doing limecyline every day, washing twice a day and applying bp every other night before bed. I haven't had active spots for a while now, so I guess it's working! Yay!

My best tip would be picking from the inside; pushing the skin with your tongue.

It could be the picking all together.

I get acne mostly where I KNOW I have touched my skin..

I know that this no-picking stuff has lessened my breakouts dramatically. I get acne mostly where I touch my skin, as well :D That's the point of the thread! haha :P

ahh guys :( me to....

i broke out with a handful of spots, i picked a couple. and ive got an 'under the skin' one on the rear top of my cheek... i also tried to squeeze it... and now its hurting and more obvious.

fml!!!! put some BHA on it. i hope this either brings it to a head or makes it go away. I'd pref it to make it go away. if not, i'll squeeze it and watch it explode!

This is a good positive thread. Everyone should be joining in!

I tend to fall into either a negative or positive feedback loop. Essentially, if a moderate breakout occurs, I pick, it gets further aggravated and any spots that may have gone away quickly look terrible. Then everything irritates my skin further (slathering makeup, exfoliants, washing, etc).

If my hormones are in balance and my skin clears, I feel no urge to pick, I wear less makeup, and that trends in a blissful period until a little breakout rears its ugly head. !

I think no picking would have 2 major benefits: 1, to prevent those little breakouts from turning into chronic acne; and 2, stoping the mirror fixation. It's a skin and mental win. :)

Exactly! I guess if you're clear you don't have anything to "feed" the skin obsession, right? I think it's safe to say that I've been good for a while now because my skin cleared up quite well. When this zit came up, I fell into the trap again...

Sounds like we all gave in to temptation haha! Me too :(

I had a tiny one right next to my lip that couldn't be left, so I popped it and it healed really well, and no breakouts because of it!

so the spot i was moaning about didn't come to a head exactly, but it was painful sat under my skin on the upper cheek. I decided to squeeze it... and it exploded.. such a GREAT feeling (wow). the area of course is red but i didn't break the skin so i think it will heal rapidly to be honest.

I have another under the skin spot (cyst? nodule? deep aggravated black head?) thing, which is in the crease of my nose and its painful. I think its worse because I used that extractor tool and managed to get a bit out but not all of the gunk, meaning it pushed bacteria deeper into the skin.....

However, I am using tea tree oil and bha on it, plus a red light device... fingers crossed it goes away on its own cant deal with two huge red marks considering I am meeting new people all week at work this coming week.

i think I have learnt that for me its always 5 days-ish after masturbating (sorry ladies) that i get awful break outs. It would be the only thing I can really think of that causes this reaction upon my skin.. although I did introduce carbs again and some working out supplements.. so it could be to do with that.. but mainly think its from unbalanced hormones due to the 'act'

hope everyone else is doing better than I am currently.

update on my date, basically it never came around... lonely!

I've been picking a lot. I only had one "bad" session, that I really hurt my skin, but I've been popping all zits that come up (I'm getting small whiteheads on my chin).

Now I have a bunch of red spots left, and I'm so angry for picking. I promised myself to keep my hands OFF my skin, unconditionally, for a week. We'll see how that works out.

Uh, I picked a spot too. Now I have a red mark. Each time I pick now though, it makes me more determined not to do it again because I get disappointed with myself.

I'll join you in not picking for a week abcd! We can do it :)

well i'm looking into micro dermabrasion to hopefully remove all the damage and superficial marks and scars ive caused over the past year -

need to find a place that uses the diamond version as apposed to the traditional crystal oxide ... anyone done microderm before?

guys how is it going? i have been SHIT at not picking.. its like i slipped allll the way back down that slippery slope... its like my skin was doing soo well and then POW as per usual, outbreaks and me picking it... before i know it ive got enlarged pores/redness/micro surface scars.

i'm so depressed right now. I don't know what to do, where to go from here. Im frozen in fear of if i try something new to eradicate my surface scars (very shallow) that i'll end up exaggerating those marks or making new ones. What the HELL do i do. Basically the problem zone has been the front of my cheeks and black heads, i squeezed them all out and even used that comedone extractor to be more careful, but just seems to have left me with small holes in my face. when i look really really really close to the mirror i can see all the surface damage caused to my skin from the FUCKING BULL SHIT HABBIT that is PICKING. I actually hate that word now.

yeah so basically, im feeling low, and wish i wasnt were i am right now with my skin.

maybe i need to try a strong AHA on the bad area and hope the acid resurfaces the minor flaws and bad texture from the abuse? :( help.

Hey Jack! Don't worry, you're not alone in slipping back into bad picking habits sad.png I picked about a week ago because I was stressed, then had a breakout, then realised I had a party this past weekend and picked some more. Ugh. My skin was pretty much all I thought about last week. So I'm having a breakout now but it seems to be slowly going away. I also have this thing where I way over-treat my skin sometimes, which makes my skin super dry and makes me break out even more.

Sigh. I'm starting again, and after this week's experience of the picking/breakout cycle, I am not likely to do it again in a hurry.

Maybe you should just leave your skin and stick to your current routine to heal yourself Jack? Starting something new might make things worse (it usually does for me anyway).

I also got this app this week to help me stop picking! It's called Lift and it's basically a habit forming app, and I'm going to record how many days I don't pick for, then reward myself with something (maybe GTA V tongue.png) when I get to two weeks or a month or whatever.
