Hi. I am Asian American and had moderately severe acne all throughout my teenage years. Fortunately, I am now pretty much acne free except for the occational pimple here and there. Unfortunately, I have pockmarked skin. I'm not sure what to call it, perhaps icepick scarring. Instead of scars, they just look like oversized pores. The best way to describe it is looking like the outside of an orange peel. While I understand that many people suffer from worse scarring than this, I was hoping to get some input from people who may suffer from this similar kind of scarring and perhaps some insight about possible treatments. Keep in mind that as an Asian toned person, I have to also worry about hyperpigmentation as well as other risk factors.

I know the pictures aren't that clear, but they give you an idea of what the scars look like. They look worse (IMHO) in real life.

Thanks!

Luckily your scarring is pretty shallow, so you have no need for subcision or fillers. If your skin was fair, I'd recommend a chemical peel or laser resurfacing (with a reputable doctor only), but you might risk getting pigmentation problems. Most of my scarring now is shallow like yours, and I benefit a lot from getting good sleep and using an exfoliating scrub (I use St. Ives Apricot Scrub) a couple times a week to keep pore size to a minimum.

It looks like you have a combination of scarring to me, but it appears to be fairly shallow. There are some options for your scarring, here are a few that you can research:

- needling

- punch float

- TCA CROSS (for icepicks, performed by a Doctor).

You might also read the frequently asked questions thread for more information on various treatments.

Needling will do nothing for your scars.

Subscision will do nothing for your scars.

Punch Float will do nothing for your scars.

TCA Spot may help with certain pores/scars that are very deep.

TCA Peel will help you the most by removing the upper layers of the skin and "hopefully" reveal a smoother layer below.

nottoobad, your answer is a bit extreme. TCA is not the endall for acne scars.

Here are my “pet treatments.

For the icepicks and "scarred pores": punch grafts, punch floats, and TCA Cross.

For the rolling scars: fillers.

For boxcars: TCA Cross, needling

After all of that: a final resurfacing

There are many other options to look into, and keep in mind that surgeons will be able to advise you better than us.

Hi..Oldguy

I was wondering if you ever had punch float or punch graft correction...?

What is the difference...?

Have you had either?

I have an ice pick scar on the tip of my nose , of all places...

I am so self concience of it ..

I tried needling it and made it WORSE.. I do have an appointment

with a plastic surgeon Nov.1....I am worried he will screw it up further.

any suggestions?

I am asian american too but my scars are overall worse. They are deeper and more hyperpigmented. Yours doesnt look as bad as mine.

I would try TCA on it. Good luck.

Thanks for the input, although I must say that most of the information is pretty general and have been hashed a rehashed in many of the other posts. I was hoping for some specific information. I met with an Aesthetian last Saturday who was pretty vague as well. She stated that a Chemical Peel combined with Microdermabrasion would yield results, even though when I asked for specifics, she couldn't give me anything definite (even empirical).

Well, once again, thanks for all the input and hope for the best for all of you.
