Hi, I am 20 years old and have been suffering from severe acne since around age 17. I have been to many doctors and they mostly just give me some type of benzoyl peroxide. I have tried the regimen which I followed perfectly with all steps that were given and still only a small result. I have been through tea tree oil along with around 10 other prescribed things from doctors. Currently I am using the benzoyl peroxide from the regimen in the morning and tetracycline at night. Along with this I am taking vitamin B complex and pantothenic acid(500mg) three times a day as well as a few others once in the morning. I am in good shape and eat clean for the most part. I get my daily fruits and veggies and exercise regularly. Today i read up on a study on an extreme amount of pantothenic acid(10 grams) to clear up acne and it worked for a lot of people but as I kept reading I saw how many long term side effects that there were. I really have no idea what else to do but its getting to the point where I hate to even go outside certain mornings. Please Help.

Forgot to mention that Ive been on the regimen for around a year. Also took clarus( accutane) and it did help but it was giving terrible side effects.

My 2 cents. Stop using BP. For me, it created hyperpigmentation that's been lingering well over 2 years. I hate that s**t. It also sounds like your taking a ton of supplements which could very much be causing toxicity in you body, creating acne.

Generally speaking, I'd suggest eating anti-inflammatory and antioxidant rich foods, drink plenty of water, cut refined sugars and processed foods, exercise, use a gentle non-drying facial cleanser, a non-drying treatment like AHA or low concentration BP, a toner like Thayer's, and be sure to moisturize.

Contrary to popular belief, diet has a huge impact on your skin's health, and obviously your overall health. Acne is largely caused by oxidative stress and subsequent inflammation at a cellular level. At your age, hormones also have a big impact.

The only way I finally got clear skin was to take a holistic approach, instead of viewing acne as an isolated, singular "disease" like I did for so many years. A combination of exercise, strict healthy diet, natural and gentle topical treatments, and supplementing a myriad of vitamins and natural herbs finally allowed me to be acne-free.

If you'd like my personal suggestions for topicals and supplements, just let me know. A good bioavailable multivitamin is always a great place to start. I'd suggest Source Naturals Life Force Multiple tablets.

What are some examples of ones I should look into ?

A typical day of eating for me is usually breakfast either yogurt and oatmeal with a banana or a few eggs with ham or bacon. Lunch ill usually have a turkey or ham sandwich of some sort. with in-between snacks of grapes etc. supper ill usually have something like spaghetti with hamburger. Also always have some sort of bedtime snack like chicken and different things, sometimes kraft dinner. For my lifestyle I would like to say i'm active. I workout 4x a week weight training. I am a university student so I do have lots of studying but I don't find myself stressed at all. I weigh 165 pounds at 6'3 ( i know it sounds unhealthy but i just have a rocket fast metabolism) not really sure what else to explain.

So a bump on this thread that was made 4 months ago. I have been eating extremely healthy and taking a multi vitamin and a vitamin B complex every day. Also switched my face ointment over to Skintx and Differin XP for inflamed spots. So far my acne is just as worse as ever. It had gotten better for a few weeks then I broke out again. I feel like there is literly nothing I can do. The doctor just keeps telling me I have to wait it out, but waiting out something that makes you not even want to go outside is horrible. Someone please help !

Thanks!

bummer, acne can be so frustrating!

I've had problems with the B vitamin supplements, maybe ditch that and see if it helps

and when you say you are eating extremely healthy, what does that mean? have you completely eliminated DAIRY, completely? if not then try that

and your topical routine, are you trying the acne.org system?

hang in there, keep us posted, we are here for you

Thanks for the reply it is greatly appreciated. By eating healthy I mean eating fruits and veggies everyday as well as sticking to mostly chicken for meats. Very little processed meats, tons of water, exercise, and I eat 0 junk and fast food. Also yes I have completely stopped eating dairy for around 4 months now. I get my 8-10 hours of sleep every night as well as change my pillow cases every 2 nights. and yes I have one the regimen but it did absolutely nothing to my face except make it red and bleach part of my hair haha.

I read your earlier post and looks like you eat a lot of wheat, or you used to. Dairy and Gluten (no bread, no pasta, no burget rolls, no Kraft mac n cheese) were big triggers for me.

I also had no luck with accutane, and I am NOT a BP fan, I bleached everything and I do think it makes PIH worse too- why don't you try salicylic acid 2% every day and on the weekends do a 10 or 15% SA peel, follow directions..I have much better luck with that then BP.

are you talking about a 2% peel or scrub ? Sorry kinda new with the salicylic acid. Also what moistorizer and peel would you suggest using ?

2% treatment leave on lotion, CVS has a spot treatment that you can use all over, Alba acne dote is one too on Amazon....something you leave on all day -- then once a week you do a higher strength peel that you put on and rinse off after a few minutes

Have you ever had a full set of tests to see what causes your acne? Like blood tests, bacteria, fungus, parasites, endocrine, testosterone, DHEAS, estradiol, prolactin, LH/FSH ratio and many others tests for kidneys, liver, stomach, allergies etc., VISIA too?

hm, check my story.

It seems to me, your acne is diet-related. you eat yoghurt, bannana, bacon, etc.

all these foods can cause / aggravate acne a lot

Give lavender oil a try. I suffered from horrible acne for years and tried 50+ different treatments with little to no luck. I am happy to say my severe acne is now 80-90% contained.

So I have been trying the 2% salicyclic acid on my face for the past 2 weeks and nothing has changed so far. Just received the 20% peel so I am going to try that soon.

No I haven't I had no idea you could get this done gasp.gif where can you have this test at ?

Any clinic/clinics that does that kind of analysis. In Romania (where I'm from) you can take them all in one clinic per example. It's not your fault you didn't know about those tests, your dermatologists should have known, but your money were more important to them than your health :) Good luck

This past summer I got a facial which caused my entire forehead and bridge of my nose to break out in cysts and regular pimples. THAT has never happened before. I couldn't get rid it...suffered with that crap for 3 months. I was getting ready to make an appointment to see my dermatologist when I found a sample size of facial wash my son was given by his facialist. I washed my face with it and I kid you not my forehead was 50% better by the next morning. I kicked myself for not trying that stuff sooner. I've been using it for about a month and my forehead is clear except for 2 very small cysts. Also, I suffered from cystic acne (which I only get around my mouth) and since I have been using this stuff not a single cyst has come back.

Image Skin Care Clear Cell Salicylic Gel Cleanser

I found it for a good price on Amazon. if you get it at a spa, they'll charge double. I hope this helps you like it has helped me

Tried my run with the salicyllic acid but it didn't work at all for me :/ The dermatologist set me back on the some pills to get me ready for accutane. Just hoping the accutane has no long term negative effects.
