Can My Indoor Cat Cause Me To Breakout?

My new kitten likes to nudge my face and rub his face all over mine.

I've never had a problem with major breakouts except this past year.

I got my kitten at the end of March, and since then I have had nonstop bumps all over my face and now my neck. They don't itch and so far none have come to a head. But I end up picking at them anyway because they drive me nuts.

So my questions is this-

Recently I have had more breakouts than the past years, but since I've gotten my kitten it's been much more prominent. Do you think the rubbing of her face and fur on my skin is causing this outbreak? Again, they don't itch, just feel like pimples under the skin.

Possibly the dander or the scent glands or oils...?

What can I do to protect my skin, since I don't want my cat to stop loving on me!

Thanks.

PS- I'm going to upload some pics right now.

This looks so much like my skin! And I've got indoor cats too.

Only difference is that I've always had cats, and since a couple of years I have had very clear skin (after a traumatic puberty with very very bad acne). My skin is now suddenly looking like yours since about two weeks... I don't know what to do, but I'm so scared I'll be going back to really bad acne :-(

Come on! Its ridcouless to think that your cat is giving you acne. Acne comes from the inside out, and its not caused by dirt or whatever on your skin. The only thing i can think of is that it might be an allergic reaction to fur otherwise it has nothing to do with your cat.

I too have just got a kitten in June. I have never really had a history of skin issues.Just the occasional breakout if my diet or hygiene was poor for a few days etc. Etc. Ive had non stop breakouts for the last 5 months... and been eating and living a very healthy lifestyle. I LOVE this little guy and will NOT be getting rid of him but I am going to have to start experimenting with how much contact I have with him. Where his fur directly contacts mine and probably bathing him regularly. I have never bathed a cat regularly before so ill be sure to use the appropriate shampoos and conditioners for him to keep his skin and coat moisturized etc. Etc.

I am going to start with the following steps and ill post again in a few weeks to follow up.

-wash hands after contacy with cat... -bathing and brushing cat monthly...

-no more face to kitty face contact :(

Unfortunately i think healthy skin is more important than bumping heads with my kitty boi

I will substitute snuggle time with extended play time. A trade i think he will prefer!

Best of luck guys!

Anything that repeatedly rubs against the skin can lead to a breakout. Even a cat!

Try leaving that skin untouched and see if you get back to normal.
