no it is not too low. All that matters in terms of preventing relapse upon cessation of treatment is the cumulative dosage. The ideal dosage for acne would be 120 mg/kg. You will just have to take a course that is 50% longer than a person taking 60 mg a day in order to achieve this cumulative dosage. Your side effects will be less than a person taking 60 mg per day however.

what do you mean by 120 mg/kg is the ideal dosage? So for example, the o.p. ways 130 lbs. How much mg of accutane would he/she need to be clear?

Studies have found that the greatest predictor of relapse is the total amount of accutane taken. The daily amount taken is of no significance. If the OP weighed 130 lbs this would be around 59 kg. 59 x 120 = 7080. At a daily dose of 40 mg, the OP would need to take the drug for 177 days to achieve complete and lasting remission (7080/40 = 177). Obviously higher daily doses allow for shorter courses and for this golden amount of 120 mg/kg to be reached faster. For example, on only 10 mg a gram, the OP would need to take Accutane for nearly two years (708) days to reach 120 mg/kg.

yea but higher doses = worse side effects. I am doing a 20 mg a day course. So that means accutane for a year?

I weigh 70kg, and have been put on a 4 month course. 40mg for the first 4 weeks and then 70mg for the remainder. How long is your course for?
