Is it true that too much zinc (usually through supplementation) encourages hypertrophic scarring?

hypertrophic scarring is a result of collagen overgrowth (i think) and zinc promotes collagen

I have been taking 30 mg of zinc everyday for a month (zinc chelate) and i am not sure if this may be promoting raised scar tissue

I don't think you have anything to worry about. 30mg of zinc daily is perfectly safe. Zinc does help boost collagen production but it's more about how your body responds to wounds etc that you have to worry about.

Are you prone to hypertrophic scarring? If so then taking zinc to boost collagen formation will likely boost the formation of hypertrophic fibroblasts but it really is less about the amount of zinc you take and more about your body's natural healing process.

Have you seen changes in your scars since starting zinc? :)
