Dermatologist Help

Recommended Posts

Hello I have an upcoming appointment with my dermatologist next week. I have been to him once before and he performed vascular laser treatment on my face about a month ago for acne scars that are on my cheeks. I have not really seen results from that and I am wondering if I should see a different derm. I know that it has only been a month and I may be overlooking him as a professional but he seems very unfriendly and unhelpful to me. He didn't talk to me much about what was going on and didn't talk about other alternative options for treatments. I have read negative reviews about him online about his attitude and such also. I have then looked up online about other derms nearby and one in particular has gotten outstanding reviews. Everybody has been satisfied about what he was able to do. I was wondering that if I did switch derms how I would I go about doing so? Would I need to inform my current derm or would I need to go back to my doctor and get a referral? If you know about this I would very much appreciate it if you would help me out.

Hi Soshi, I have had treatment for my scarring. It usually takes 1-2 months to see a difference, give it time. But if you're paying for this derm and he is not providing the service, then move, it's up to you. I was in the same position, i went to get my hair cut and the hairdresser was being rude, i didn't pay and have never gone back.

Some insurances require a referral from a general doctor every time you see a new specialist. You'll have to call up your insurance and ask them if they require it.

If you want to switch derms, though, you don't need your current derms permission. You just stop going and go to someone new.
