Can Somebody Please Enlighten Me!?

Recommended Posts

I really don't know who or what to believe anymore. Some people have said my scar will get better with time, some people said it will get worse, and even though this scar, my five month old scar on my forehead... as shallow as it is... like .2 millimeters or less, that I can't get rid of it. It's wide though. I can see the edges of where the original wound was. I can't really categorize it because its not deep... I still see it though. I mean I don't understand, my scars are very very very shallow and they're not tethered down, I don't understand why I can't get rid of them completely.

It's just left me with questions... since scars happen when they reach a certain part of the skin... how thick in millimeters, or whatever measurement is the average skin layers of the epidermis and dermis... etc.?

How long until I know my scar has stopped remodeling itself... its five months?

I'm only 17. And its really killing me... I hate looking in the mirror, because all I look at are these scars!

I just hate where they are... and the fact that I could have avoided them if I hadn't picked my skin.

Somebody please, tell me... what can I do?

Would chemical peels overtime, get rid of them...

Ugh. It's just this one big one on my forhead that's relatively new that has me in the hell. I've just been reading up so much, and I'm paranoid that its going to get bigger or deeper, and that I'm screwed for life.

You need to remember your scar doesnt have you in the hell. You have you in the hell. You have to try your hardest not to let lifes circumstances throw you around. You are young my dear. Welcome to life. This is the real world. Shit happens. You are going to be just fine. If you have some shallow scarring im sure you will find a doctor who can help you. Try not to fret over the small stuff. Your scar will not get bigger and deeper. ANd no your not screwed for life. Your young, things should actually get a bit better with time.

I think it will get better for you with time, just don't make the mistake of overtreating your skin because it can be just as bad as the picking. Be gentle and prevent breakouts. If you still have scars in a few more years think about more treatments. I had some shallow scars at your age that DID go away with time. Now maybe the skin is not flawless perfect where they were, but it is not noticable to the average person. Don't hold yourself to perfect standards, it is never achievable for anyone, scars or not.

ForeverAndPatience, you open a lot of new threads where you ask the same questions over and over. I have replied to many of them but you don't seem to reply back.

It seems like you're over thinking about things and stressing out when you don't need to. If your scars bother you there is only one solution, and that is to find a good dermatologist or doctor who specialises in this field and heed their advice. There are many treatment options available but only you can make a decision.

As others have said, you need to calm down and be realistic. Your life should not revolve around your scars. You have just as much right to walk this earth as anyone else. Remember that.

There is information about skin thickness, and scar formation out there. In fact, I think I sent you a link to a clinical study that covers those points in great detail. You need to be proactive and take the time to make up your own mind about where your scars are at and what the best treatment is for you. These boards are great, but we are not doctors. We are people with scarred skin who are doing our best to share our stories and offer advice. In the end you should see the professionals.

Yeah, you're right. It's just hard for me right now to see things getting better when I have so much more to deal with, and literally no support at home.

Yeah. I really need to chill. I've been in and out of the emergency room/doctors because of this... I know it sounds a bit much, but its not just the scar. It's all the things the scar brought to light, all the misleading information on the internet, and my stressy life to add to it. And I still haven't gotten out to the doctors what's really bothering me. I'm not crazy. I've just had a stressful fucked up life, and I take things real hard... and I'm very hard on myself.

But if you don't mind my asking, the scars you said that went away... how old and how deep were they? Is there anything you did to help? What do you mean the skin was different?

Sorry to be a bother. And thanks for replying.

Sorry about not replying, I'm still figuring out this website. I'll go through and read the old posts. But I do appreciate you in general for replying. I'll look into some things, but it freaks me out because I don't want to get my hopes up...

I'm just feeling really regretful right now. Especially now, I picked again last night. I'm going to stop, today.

Thanks so much, all of you.

Hey! Sorry you are going through stressful times now, I used to pick too because of stress and OCD. You can visit the site stoppickingonme.com if you haven't heard of it. My skin didn't scar much at seventeen, mainly red marks, but the little bit I had did clear with time. I just healed better then. Now when I get a zit it can scar bad it I am not careful and refrain from picking which can be a real problem. Sometimes it helps to have some prescription steroid cream when your skin flares up because the inflammation makes you pick more and leads to more scarring. Also something like polysporin. Just remember everyone has some skin issues, especially at your age and it is not the end of the world!

Yeah. I know its not the end of the world. It's just hard for me to look at myself the same. But, I'm hoping things will get better. These past five months I've spent obsessing over my skin. Hopefully I can visit a dermatologist soon. And I will visit that website.

Thanks (:

ForeverAndPatience, I think you need to reassess a few things. smile.png

Firstly, if you still have active acne that should be your main priority. Get yourself clear before you embark on a scar treatment journey.

Secondly, no matter how old the scar is there are treatment options available. You were worried about scars that are 7 months old. All of my scars are over 8 years old and I am seeing huge improvements with my treatments. Just takes patience and the right doctor/treatment.

Lastly, why not get your hopes up? I did! Every time I see a new treatment option on the market I get excited and I research the heck out of it. Learn about the science behind the treatments and you will learn all you need to know about your skin, trust me. Don't let this be a negative thing in your life. I am proud of the fact that I got up and did something about my skin. It's been a long road but all I see are positives.

Remember we are all in this together. You're not alone. xx
