I took a 6 month course of Accutane and finished it on July 7, 2012, so it has been just about 4 months since I got off of it. All side effects have gone away except I still have stiff lower back pain, and recently my stomach has been acting up and I am going to get tested for IBS...

My face is baby smooth, however red marks are still very very obvious and I hate it. Before picture is right before I started accutane, it got much worse after that...Excuse the peach fuzz all over my face its no shave November and I figured I'd try to grow it out haha.

You look great!!! Congratulations on staying clear!!

If those marks bother you there are many things you can try to help fade them. First always make sure if you are going to be outdoors to use sunscreen and you can try apple cider vinager. Honey masks, African black soaps. Lemon treatments. They all help with fading.

If you wanted to fade them with medications retin a and or Hydroquinone ointments are helpful.

Time will do the trick too. They will fade on their own as long as they aren't exposed to the sun. So just using a SPF 15 should do the trick!

Congrats

Thank you very much smile.png makes me feel good.

How did your treatment go?

Also, I have a huge tube of Tretinoin cream from before my accutane course. isnt that the same as retin a? And if i started using it will I have any initial adverse side effects? Thanks!

My treatment went good thank you! I finished up almost 3 weeks ago. I am dealing with the red marks too. Using retin a right now and start Hydroquinone 4% this week. So hopefully I can saying Goodbye to these marks. They really suck and make you feel like you are still suffering from the acne in some sense.

You are correct the Tretinoin cream is exactly the same thing as retin a. That is actually what I am using too. 0.05% which is the medium strength. I was told to mix it with my moisturizer at night that way it will not be so harsh on my fragile accutane skin. Since I just got off it a couple weeks ago ya know. I use just a pea size and use it every other night right now until my skin gets used to it.

How exactly do you use it? Do you just apply it and leave it on like lotion?

You're much luckier than I was.

I got acne almost immediately after stopping, and accutane has left my skin as a whole as quite red.

I've now got to use differin and having initial breakout there and also extre redness is really hard mentally. I wish I could have as nice skin as you : ) congratulations, let's hope it doesn't get worse
