I Need Some Direction From You Veterans Out There!

Recommended Posts

Ok... over the years Ive tried all the otc products. Nothing worked. Tried natural things from ACV to tea tree oil to sea salt. Helped a little but still have acne. Anyways, about a month ago my doctor gave me Minocycline and although I was scared of the side effects I took it anyway. I only took it for maybe 5 days but all my acne was gone! I didnt have any whiteheads (mostly my problem). It was a relief.

Moving on, last summer I narrowed down the cause of my acne due to hormones and masturbation. So I obviously stopped for the most part. I'd still get a few whiteheads every now and then but no more face full of acne nor any painful zits.

But heres my problem... I want clear skin lol. Completely clear. Im taking more B5 and Zinc and I think its helped a little. But my question is: If minocycline can cure my acne, what natural antibiotic or anti-inflammatory can I take that will have the same effect? My doctor said mino was an anti-inflammatory but I also heard it was antibiotic. Im unsure what it really is but I dont want to be on it! I need to find something natural!!

Please help!

BTW Ive taken turmeric in the past with no luck. Heard that was anti-inflammatory.

Dont take antibiotics, they make it seem better at first, but in the long run it just does you damage. Keep it all natural.

Your body has its own system to kill bad bacteria. It's called your gut. If you have enough GOOD bacteria in your gut, generally your body is strong enough to fight off infection on its own. While mino may have temporarily killed any bad bacteria that was inflaming your acne, it also killed off a lot of your good bacteria. So get a really great probiotic and take it every day for a few months.

I recommend Renew Life's Ultimate Flora.

How many strains are contained in your probiotic and how many total active cultures? I was taking a 6 million 3 strain probiotic and didn't notice a difference. I'm now on a 10 strain 50 billion culture probiotic and the difference is a-mazing.

With probiotics...it's go big or go home.

This is the one Im taking now http://www.iherb.com...ggie-Caps/14727

I think this was the one I was taking earlier this year http://www.gnc.com/p...9#productTabset

The iHerb one looks pretty good.

At that point, then I'd recommend getting a little hormone balancing help with saw palmetto. See these two threads:

Ok. I have saw palmetto. Tried it without luck, but I probably didnt take enough. Im still confused on how much to take though. Seems like it varies between people maybe?

Thanks for all the help so far Green Gables!

University of Maryland study said that you need to take at least 320 mg a day of standardized extract that is composed of at least 85% fatty acids. Those fatty acids are what make the saw palmetto potent. Not all brands are standardized with 85% or higher fatty acids.

Anecdotal reports here show that you'll probably need to ramp up to 500mg-1000mg a day to see real results.

Because of how anti-androgens work, their effect will build slowly. Some people report an immediate effect, but I would say most don't see a difference until after a month or longer. If your acne is very resistant, I wouldn't give up until month 6.

LifeExtension Super Saw Palmetto. $5 on the site below. Great brand.

http://www.lef.org/V...Sitosterol.html

USPlus® Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens) CO2 DeepExtract™ (fruit) [std. to 85%-95% total fatty acids and sterols (272 mg)]

320 mg

Phytosterol Complex [std. to 59% free total sterols (200 mg) and 26.6% free beta-sitosterol (90 mg)]

339 mg

Boron (from boron citrate, aspartate, glycinate)

3 mg

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) extract (leaves)

400 mcg

Alternatively, you could also try their Saw Palmetto + Stinging Nettle combo. Stinging Nettle is another anti-androgen. Some people have more success combining the two because they work by slightly different mechanisms in the body. Quite a bit more expensive though, selling for $28 a bottle.
