How To Help Inflamation? Pics

Recommended Posts

I am older so i do actually controll what does come in and out of the fridge, however, i do have 3 other family members that will not give up dairy like i have, milk i notice a huge difference in my skin if i consume any at all, if i eat cheese once in a blue moon and am continuously doing the benzoyl per from acne.org, i have no prob. Even eatig milk choc gives me an inflamed pimple or two if i eat it. Personally from my own addiction to dairy and my experience giving it up, especially while living w children and a man that can and want to eat it; it is very very hard, but its worth it to me, especially since i see an almost immediate reaction towards dairy now that i know. What im trying to say is, yeah cheese is sooooo hard to give up, but my confidence and painfree skin is so much more important to me, and after a while u do get used to it, annd its not soooo hard, lol, but its still hard haha

ACCUTANE!!! I used to have perfect skin and then around 20 I began breaking out just like you! I became so depressed because my face looked horrible and I was in so much pain. I only left my house if I absolutely had to and I spent any free time lying in bed. After trying every possible oral medication, topical medication, and diet modification I finally gave in and started accutane. I was really nervous to go on it, especially because I was so depressed by this point, but it honestly saved my life! I don't think I could've lived with that horrible acne much longer. I took it for 5 months and have been off for 2 months now. My skin is SO clear, I haven't even had one tiny zit. The only side effects I had were dry lips, which were easily helped with lip moisturizers, and I had some joint pain in my hips, but that has gone away now that I have stopped. It was totally worth it, best choice I have ever made! All I have now are some scars, but it is NOTHING compared to the huge painful cysts I had all over my face. Please, if it is an option, do it! I really feel for you and you are in my thoughts! Hang in there, it will get better!!

I'm reading through this section, and I saw your post. I had to log in my account so i can share my experience and give some advice. Based on the pictures, you are a perfect candidate for Accutane. I too suffered from severe facial and moderate body acne. Tried tons of remedies. Spent a lot of money for temporary results, visiting one derm after the other, and throwing antibiotics, creams, and played the waiting game to no avail.

I understand your hesitant to take the Accutane route, but based on my personal experience, it was a miracle drug for me. It turned my life around.

I'm pulling for you to get past this. Be strong kid. Good luck.

thats good news man, I'm happy to hear that things are beginning to look up for you. It annoys me that people just disregard the fact that you stated numerous times how you felt about accutane. I really hope that you keep seeing positive results... good-luck buddy keep us updated on how things are going for ya.

I know you think accutane will give you depression or anxiety, but in all honesty it probably won't. Hell even if it did wouldn't that be better than the shit youre dealing with now? Whether or not it will give you mental issues, I will tell you that it WILL clear you up if you get on a high dose and stay on it long enough! I was on it and when I got off I hated myself for being so afraid to take it in the first place, and I felt a burning rage for my previous dr (who I had for like 2 years and got basically no results..) who didn't want to give it to me. Accutane is an amazing drug it turns people's lives around. Please please please trust me!

And on another note all you people saying dont drink milk, or be sure to eat plenty of vegetables, do yoga or whatever etc....You are not helping anyone.

I really hope it gets better soon for you man. For most of us this thing is cosmetic and uncomfortable at worst, but for you it must really effect your whole life. Do what your doctor says. If I can offer any advice it's to take zinc, it should help with the healing process and reduce red marks etc. It can't do any harm, I take 50mg of zinc citrate twice a day and put a thin layer of sudocrem (has zinc oxide in it) and it really helps reduce redness and inflamation.

Whatever you decide to do I hope it works quickly!

I used to have this same type of acne after antibiotics and useless creams prescribed to me by doctors and derms. Chromium,Zinc, and magnesium supplements helped me get clear i only struggle with scars now but these supplements saved me i would recommend using a foam cleanser 2wice a day drink tomato juice everyday my acne used to be inflamed like yours tomato juice helps with that man. keep your head up man i know exactly how you feel.

I agree , 90% out there will tell you that food does not CAUSE or AGGRAVATE acne , including mine , so man do what you think , but my guess is that acne can't be the result of bad eating , and accutane is great for the job , take care!

90% derms* sorry

Hi @Ms18. I had to comment on your thread because my heart goes out to you. I am a medical assistant and esthetician. I am 36 female and have had cystic acne since I was 12. Although not as severe as your acne I still understand the impact of acne on emotional health. I also have suffered SEVERE anxiety and depression. I have tried every single topical, antibiotic, birth control, androgen blockers, vitamins, chemical peels, diet restrictions.... EVERYTHING and yes even Accutane. I also have been on a TON of antidepressants.

So with that said.....

I undertand accutane is scary. But i do think it is the only CURE for someone with severe cystic acne. But I can sympathize with you on why you would be hesitant to take it.

I just wanted to point out that in my opinion Psych Meds have just as many if not more dangerous side effects than accutane. The risk of Suicide is a very real risk on Psych meds too.... espicially for someone your age. All the commercials say "risk of suicide". But bigger than that risk are the major effects these meds can have on your WHOLE body and espicially your brian. I totally agree with the use of Psych meds for someone who is severly mentally ill. And I don't know your state of mind so I can't make that decision for you of course. But I just feel for you and want to make the point that Psych meds are very scary meds. And I had terrible side effects when I took them.

So like I said I too have anxiety and depression and when I took accutane the only side effect I had was dry sensitive skin & chapped lips. It didn't effect my state of mind at all. If anything I was SO Happy cuz my acne cleared up. :) I just hought I'd share this with you to show you a case of someone with bad depression taking accutane and being totally fine. I think as long as you are aware of how your feeling and communicate daily with your mom or Dr then you would be ok.

BUT....since you aren't ready to go that route I really think you should look into "High Dose Photodynamic Therapy". Have you researched that? It's a laser that they say is just as good as accutane at clearing cystic acne. I 100% think everyone should try that first before taking accutane becuase if it works then there is no chance of damage to your body. Accutane should be a last resort. Some people say the acne returns but I think if it clears it up for even a year and then you re-do it then it's worth it.

I hope you don't take any of this in a negative way. I know your against the accutane but I just wanted to tell you my story. Accutane is Nasty! But sometimes the benefits outweigh the risks. You know!

Take care hun!

Look into taking B5 vitamins, it worked for me, mine looked like that but not nearly as bad. It was the same color and stuff but only on my cheeks, no where near as bad. 1 month of B5 and it cleared me. But now, it's back, it will give you some releif.

you honestly need to see another dermatologist sweetie. i dont understand why your doctor would give you prednisone. after you get off that medication that causes a flare of acne! prednisone is a steroid that causes hormones to go crazy! you really need to consider accutane. accutane in some cases can be a permanent fix. go to another doctor in your area with a good reputation. best of luck!

I actually really like my dermatologist she has been very helpful and my Dermatologist is one of the best in my area. Also im pretty sure prednisone has been given to alot of people with acne it helped me tremendously for a few days but unfortunately it didn't work out for me. Ive been on Keflex along with washing with Bp and using differin and my face has improved so much. My cheeks are pretty much clear but with ALOT of scarring some spots are really dark purpleish red. I don't have any more pain in my face i can actually sleep now, I've been making progress slowly but surely. Im still thinking about accutane but I'm just gonna finish my antibiotics and go from there.

Happy for you, that you didn't have to use "the tane", once I heard something about liver damage, it wan a no go for me. I have inflammatory acne, not as bad as yours but my two cents is you need to find out what is really causing your acne. Not the root cause per se but what causes it to be inflamed and spread. If it is a bacterial infection, then your derm's panacea should relieve you greatly. In my case it is incessant oil production so I use a mint julep mask, wash frequently and other small things in diet to control it. Point is, that will be key to getting your skin back to close to normal, it varies with each acne sufferer. Eliminate things and add stuff to your diet and see what works. There is no universal cure so everyone on this blog has to diagnose themselves, dermatologists don't have all the answers.

Forgive the vagueness, experience has curbed my enthusiasm. Keep fighting mate!

To the OP:

Hey man just wanted to wish you the best of luck and to keep hanging in there! Are you still using Differin? I think that can be quite an effective topical treatment if it is given a chance to work. I respect the fact that you have also chosen not to go on accutane at this point as well. However, it's worth bearing in mind that the negative effects of tane are often mischaracterised online, with many people basing their negative evaluations of the drug from anecdotal evidence which, of course, cannot be sen as scientifically credible as they haven't come from controlled, empirical experiments. I only say this as there may come a point in the future where you consider taking accutane and it's important to try and develop a balanced view of the issue; although I hope you clear up long before that time and can start enjoying life to the full!

Hey man. I'm halfway through Month 3 of Accutane and let me tell you I've taken Doxycycline before. Gonna tell you a bit about my experience with it.

Well, I took Doxycycline 100mg 2x a day starting from August of 2011. I was put on 2 and a half months of it. My face got extremely clear after the treatment and all I was left with was a partially red face (cheeks and a bit on forehead and jaw) and scars that began fading. When March 2012 came, my acne did too and it got much worse than before. The thing about Doxycycline is that it leaves you clear for a period of time but everything comes back anyways once you stop taking it because it's an antibiotic which has the purpose of reducing inflammation and also serves as an antibacterial. Once you're off it, everything just comes back. Some people are lucky with it and never get acne again, but for 80% of patients, it just comes back. I'm not trying to unmotivate you, because your skin will get clear with it, I'm just saying that you'll need Accutane on the long run. It's the only treatment that really does help.

In 2011 (before doxycycline) my derm wanted to put me on Accutane, but my mom didn't want me to go through it because of the side effects. I started it this year end of July, and honestly, even though your face tends to worsen at first, the side effects are basically dry skin and lips. It doesn't tend to go beyond that. Every skin is different nonetheless, but you should really consider Accutane. Your face WILL get better. Just gotta be positive ;) Hope you get better yo.

Future wannabe dermatologist right here :P

Hey, I hope your face clears up. Might I recommend Fish Oil and Borage Oil for the redness and inflammation, It seemed to reduce the swelling quite well and healing time of my acne. As the others said, check into Accutane I think it would work wonders for you. Wish you all the best!

Little update my face is about 80% clear i would say i have very few tiny tiny bumps but still ALOT of deep Red scarring but im getting there. Im having a little trouble with my shoulders but its been improving. I have a question for you guys im using 10% bp as a wash morning and night my face doesnt have a problem with it but im getting a red rash around my neck and a little on the sides of my chest. I'm thinking its from a combination of the bp and my shirt rubbing on me. Should i just start using a mild cleanser like cetaphil on my chest and back once a day and only use bp on my chest and back once and day to? I've been trying to keep the bp away from my lower neck but its hard. Thanks

@ms18. My two cents; if bp does not make your face red, then it probably doesn't to your neck and shoulders. Since your face is much more sensitive than either. And unless you've got some kind of new deodorant and hair product, I cannot see how your shirt suddenly starts causing you inflammation if it did no such thing before. Check your pillow or hair products? Bp as a wash should not leave enough residue to warrant that kind of effect. It doesn't add up. Now if you are using the bp lotion topically, that may be a factor. Bp dries stuff up like crazy. Litmus test; if you have any colored sweaters or even shirts, look at them, if they are slightly bleached near the collar, then bp is present, if not, then it may be your imagination. Good call with the cetaphil, that'd be your best bet.
