Does BP work on cheeks?

Recommended Posts

Hi, i used to have amazing skin by just using 5% BP once a day. Then all of a sudden out of nowhere I started gettin really bad acne on one side of my face on the cheek, despite using the BP. I went to docs and got clindamycin lotion which cleared it up pretty quick but not totally as since then i always get zits on both sides of my face and by my mouth. Maybe the clindamycin has worn off and doesnt work aswell i dont know. I get the occassional spot on forehead but not very often, touch wood and my chin nose and under my eyes are clear. Its just the area by my mouth and the cheeks that get outbreaks and sometimes painful lesions. I am on antibiotics and have cycled through the different one when they seem to stop working. Does BP only work on the T-zone (i.e. nose forehead chin) or if i start using it on my cheeks will that work too? I now use BP in morning on T zone, and clindamycin lotion on cheeks. Then at night ive started using Differin gel which seems to help but keep gettin the odd zit that is painful and quite big. Any ideas? Who thinks I should stop the clindamycin and just use BP all over in the morning?

Im from Liverpool England by the way and Im 22, 8 years of acne ARRRRRRRGH!

Hi Jonny,

Sorry to hear about your woes.

Based on my experience, my answer to your question is an unequivocal "yes". BP will work on bacterial acne anywhere on your face and body. Clindamycin also works quite nicely in this regard; however, it should be noted that Clindamycin (along with all other topical antibiotics) will lose their effectiveness over time. It has been discovered that combining these antibiotics w/BP will make them effective again. Strange, but research shows this to be true. Therefore, a great product for you might be "Duac", which is a topical gel, containing a combination of 5% BP gel and 1% Clindamycin. Beautiful combo, and it works great for me (I have been using it for about 6 months on my facial acne, which includes my cheeks!) I use Duac every night (nothing else) and Differin Cream every morning (nothing else). And moisturize both times... Have had great results - am just about 100% clear!

Not sure if Duac is available in the UK but you should be able to get your hands on some, somehow. Here's the link to the site.

Duac Topical Gel

If you can't get the Duac, just try applying your BP gel and Clindamycin lotion in combination together. Should give you similar results, although more of a bother (two separate products, two separate applications = YUCK).

Good luck to ya.
