Help Finding A Suitable Plastic Surgeon For Ethnic Skin In London.

Recommended Posts

1.

I need some help finding a doctor who can treat my acne scars. My skin is ethnic - Filipino (Philippines). I understand because of my skin colour there aren't many treatments available for me. But does anyone know of a doctor in London who I can see?

2.

Also, is it better to see a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist? I was just wondering as I have read that dermatologists are less experienced in the actual procedures while plastic surgeons are far, FAR more experienced in, say, doing subcision, punch grafting, laser resurfacing, etc.

3.

Does anyone have any experience with these dermatologists and plastic surgeons, and how did you find them?

Dr. Nick Parkhouse - (Kate Silverton went to him for a second opinion after her disastrous laser treatment)

Dr. Jean Louis Sebagh - (Trinny Woodall got her acne scars treated by him in the 90s)

Dr. Puneet Gupta - (Featured on Embarrassing Bodies)

4.

Also, which are the best lasers for Asian/Oriental skin types (i.e. Filipino, Chinese, Malaysian, etc.)?

I really appreciate any feedback whatsoever. I just want to rid these scars once and for all and regain my confidence back. I just feel really hopeless and ugly.

Thank you.

What type of acne scarring do u have? I have ethnic skin too and although we can't have the same treatment because of the possibility of adverse reactions, there are solutions out there! Let me tell u something, surgery sounds EXTREME! There are plenty of ppl who have gotten rid of there scars or at least made them much less noticeable by other means! So I think I need to tell us what type of scarring u have? Do I mean just marks left from acne which is hyper pigmentation or post inflammatory hyper pigmentation OR do u mean actual scars? Like ice pick scars indents etc. let us know then we ca go from there. P.s I'm from London too :)

Hi there,

I have a few boxcar scars on my cheeks and apparently rolling scars on the left side of my cheek. I also I believe that I have ice pick scars / or scarred pores (Is there a difference?) But they didn't tell me that I have those. Yes, they are indented.

Thanks for replying.

Alex, none of these doctors mention subcision as a treatment for acne scars. However, as I consider this the option for rolling scars I would definitively ask them if they offer subcision and how much experience they have with it. Please let us know what they answer.

Regarding lasers, some doctors in the US treat ethnic skin with the Fraxel Restore and claim to do this without any complications.

I would go for subcision first (least risk, best results) and then later check the Fraxel Restore when your scars are less indented.

Before you do anything I really recommend uncheck out this website http://www.makeupartistschoice.com/ It's got plenty of reviews of ppl with similar scarring issues who use chemical peels as a form of lessening the appearance of ur scars and even diminishing some of them. Have a read through I really recommend it there are even pictures of ppl who used it and posted there after pics. I would think about different approaches befor u think about going as far as surgery
