First Attempt At Diluting Sa: Fail

Recommended Posts

So, I tried to dilute salicylic acid into witch hazel with 14% alcohol and it was a pretty big failure. I was able to use it initially and a lot of the burn was gone, but the stuff almost immediatly congealed or crystalized.

Is there anything else? Straight rubbing alcohol, perhaps? I can use rubbing alcohol on my face without a problem and it's much easier on my skin that SA.

I've also heard water, but I use water to neutralize the acid after I apply it, so would that neutralize the acid? Or maybe if I go 1:1, would that keep some of the acid?

ugh... alcohol in that percentage is a no no for skin. I understand lots of products contain alcohol and are actually beneficial to the product and skin penetration (read up on garden of wisdom for this) but not like this.

You should use distilled water instead if the SA is too strong.
