Do You Think My Dermatologist Will Prescrible Me Accutane? (Pics Included)

Let me start off my giving you a history of my skin. I've had acne since I was 11 and I am now 16. I have the oiliest skin ever (I have to blot my skin about every hour), I have the biggest pores ever, and the severity of my acne is always changing, but I'd say right now that it's mild. My skin has effected my life beyond belief and I am so insecure all the time, but my dermatologist doesn't seem to understand this! I haven't gone out of the house without makeup for years, I won't go to sleepovers, and I don't swim anymore because I am that mortified by being seen without makeup. I also have been putting off relationships because I'm so insecure. I've tried all the medications, face washes, lotions, and creams, including clindamycin, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, retin-a, doxycycline, and birth control. I've also had light chemical peels with no luck.

I've been researching Accutane for over six months now and I'm aware of how it works, the side effects, what to expect, what products to use, the precautions to take, and I also know I will have to be on two forms of birth control, and I will have to get monthly blood tests. I am a healthy teenager and I am responsible enough to take this drug.

What was your experience on Accutane? What skin issues did you have before Accutane and what was your skin like after the treatment? How long did it take to get it and what did you have to do to get it?

I am wearing makeup in these pictures. post-168650-0-45338400-1329186725_thumb.post-168650-0-98265000-1329186740_thumb.post-168650-0-44238600-1329186754_thumb.post-168650-0-52023100-1329186774_thumb.post-168650-0-85217800-1329186795_thumb.post-168650-0-42775600-1329186821_thumb.post-168650-0-10356900-1329186845_thumb.post-168650-0-40562900-1329186867_thumb.post-168650-0-77416200-1329186885_thumb.post-168650-0-21030200-1329186905_thumb.

Apart from your chin, your skin strikes me as always flawless! I don't think they would prescribe you Accutane, and based on your pics., they'd be irresponsible to do so.

Have you tried the Regimen? I think something more along those lines would do wonders for your chin. (That's the area I've used it on).

Based on those pictures, you definitely don't need Accutane. You should probably post pics where you aren't wearing makeup so we can see if you really do have bad acne.

I wouldn't take accutane if I were you. Chances are you get an initial break out that could be worse than your skin is now and can possibly leave some scarring. And accutane won't change your pores, I have the same pore size as you and I'm on accutane and they haven't changed (were even slightly larger in the first months).

I too reccomend trying dan's regimen.

He will likely not give you Accutane, but he might give you a topical to zap those pesky chin spots away.

Nope, I really do not think he would give you accutane.

I have (kind of) similar skin to yours & I have tried much the same things you have over the course of 8 years.

However, I totally agree with my doctor when he said Accutane is not suitable for mild acne.

I know it's easy to get carried away with all the success stories it's had, but it's a really brutal drug.

However, you did say the severity of your skin goes up & down, what was it like at it's worst?

Because right now, your skin isn't bad enough to justify Accutane.

Really it's only worth the risky sometimes permanent side effects if you have tried everything and your acne is pretty severe.

He will mostly likely just give you another topical to try, or like me, a less brutal course of antibiotics.

You should be proud of that skin! It's pretty damn flawless!

The acne that you have is not worth the side effects that accutane has.

Thanks guys for the comments! It's disappointing to hear that I probably can't get Accutane but at least I know what to expect!

Yeah, I would die for skin like yours. Your skin is about 90 % clear to me. There's absolutely NO need for someone with Mild acne like yours to on Accutane. You're lucky as hell.

even if ur doc does, ideally u should refuse it.

u dnt wanna bear the side effects considering u have mildest of mild acne!

as for the make up,u gotta learn a lil' more i guess.

i see u r worries about pores.do u use a pore reducer or whatever they call it?

i am not a make up person but there are many 'experts' here so ask away!

You'd be insane to take accutane.

Accutane is a very, very powerful and serious drug, and it is not a miracle cure for acne.

Seriously, get to the ROOT of your problem rather than resorting to accutane to suppress the acne. You might have a hormonal imbalance or food/ cosmetic allergies that you need to sort out before worrying about the skin-deep effects.

Educate yourself on less extreme ways to clear your skin. It really pisses me off that doctors only present 3 extreme ways to deal with acne: antibiotics (which make digestion issues WORSE in the long run), birth control for women (which can cause more hormonal imbalances), and accutane. Do your own research and find the CAUSE of your breakouts, that's the only way you will be permanently clear.

Omg I wish I had your skin! You do not have bad skin whatsoever! Now compared to other teenagers who have flawless skin, I can see why you would want to go to a dermatologist. You absolutely do not need accutane! I had skin like that when I was 16, but I am now 25 and I will be going on accutane shortly. But be glad you are getting help now, because I only went to the dermatologist for the first time in April. I wished I would have went when I was 16.
