A lot of the time we find temporary treatments for acne and when we stop using the method/tablets the symptoms come back. A great example of this is roaccutane. I have found and still have a long term method for treating acne and im sure when I am fully developed to a man lol, I will be able to break some rules.

Firstly Acne is a hormonal thing and there is two things that really have an effect are hormones that we have some control over. This is diet and stress. I believe acne can be controlled and the importance is 50% diet/stress and 50% skin care.

Skin Care Regime

Kep it simple. Often harsh products make things work. Less is more.

Wash (warm water as hot will aggravate your skin), I use this cleanser once a day http://www.purelynat.../acne-cleanser/ .No need to moisturise, as it the cleanser is amazing should be enough.

Use a moisturiser that will not clog your pores. The key is to only use a tiny amount of your favourite moisturiser. This is the best one I have ever used and I have tried plenty: http://purechimp.com/product/pure-chimp-super-one/

If something is natural it can still aggravate your skin. Look for a 100% natural product will a small number of ingredients. Same goes for chemical products, try find something that has a small number of ingredients. Less is more.

My Regime

Use what works for you but below is what I like to do and is a good skin care regime.

Morning & evening- Wash face with Purely Natural 4 Oily Skin Cleanser and Moisturise with Pure Chimp Super One

Yes I am male and wear make up for an extra confidence boost. Most people say I don't need it but phycologically it helps. Nobody notices smile.png. Use clarins powder compact as it is non-comedogenic (will not clog pores). Tip: Spray distilled water on your face after to set and make less noticeable.

Diet

4 Things in our diet that really affect our hormones/stress and should be removed from your diet are sugar, refined carbohydrates, dairy and caffeine. The easiest way to do this is a Low GL (low glycemic load) diet (but dont forget to remove dairy its packed full of hormones). Once you understand what to eat it's not a diet and just becomes part of your daily routine.

Some good Low GL foods

Caffeine - Dark chocolate and green tea will give you a more steady flow of caffeine (still have caffeine but a lot less then tea and coffee) or for no caffeine herbal/fruit teas. Diet drinks are okay (couple a day max).

Dairy- almond milk, oat milk, rice milk, dairy free butter (make sure the milk & butter are fortified with calcium), dairy free ice cream now & then (made with coconut milk)

Sweet stuff - Agave nectar, xylitol (especially good), Fructose, honey (max 20ml a day), mayple syrup (max 20ml a day), reduced sugar jam

Sauces - Curry Sauces (with low sugar content), Bolognese, Chilli con carne, Pesto, Gucamole, Tomato salsa, Houmous, Tomato & basil, Vinaigrette, French, Honey & mustard, Mayonnaise, Tomato Ketchup (around 5mls), Generally sauces with low sugar content.

Carbohydrates - Wholemeal/wholewheat pasta 100g, Soay & linseed bread, wholegrain bread, heavy mixed grain bread, Dark Rye bread (only 2 slices of bread a day). Brown rice, scottish porridge oats, oatcakes (4 a day), natural muesli (no added sugar), new/baby potatoes, sweet potatoes, reduced sugar baked beans, popcorn (unsweetened), couscous, crisps (1 packet a day).

All beans/legumes are Low GL.

All nuts are Low GL

All meat is Low GL

All fruit is Low GL (except rasins, sultanas and dried fruit with added sugar). No more than 3 portions fruit a day.

If you drink fruit juice have a MAX of 125ml a day, if you hvae more it can be. come High GL.

All vegetables are Low GL (except white potatoes, baby/new are okay, parsnips)

Treat yourself once every couple of weeks but dont over indulge. It will be hard to start off with but you get used to it over time and it become second nature.

Stress

This section is more of an individual thing. We all find certain things more de-stressing then others.

Some good activities are:

  • A weekly massage (I like an indian head massage)
  • Meditation (SKY breathing, yoga etc.)
  • Write tasks down.
  • Playing a sport you love
  • Exercising 3 times a week
  • Going for walks
  • Socialising
  • Listen to relaxing music
  • Play the xbox kinect or something similar

There is lots more de-stressing activities, do whatever you enjoy and feel comfortable with.

If you are doing this regime after one month you will start to see results. The diet is very important and maybe use one or two de-stressing ideas (exercising is the most important) and don't forget to have a good skin care regime and stick to it. You may get a spot now and then I still do, but this i life and even people with amazing skin do. Commitment, will power and continuity are vital. Good Luck.

Anybody using this method at the moment or had success with something similar?

I have now changed my cleanser to purel natural skin acne cleanser and use an egg yolk for a face mask once a week. Still using same moisturiser. This is now my skin regime for a long time. Love it.

I agree that keeping it simple is good, but I personally do not use moisturizers. My routine is simple: at night I use Dan's cleanser and his BP (every other day). Shaving every other day seems to have played a big part in helping my cheeks stay clear as it is a great exfoliator (electric razor).

For diet, I eat lots of meat/veg and try to keep carbs down. This is hard because I love carbs.. :-( Low gi carbs that I eat daily are porridge and sweet potatoes.

Sorry for bumping this so far, but I like the information contained in here, and it has helped me a lot.

I also have found that you should look into how your liver is functioning. That was a root cause in MUCH of my issues; now that I have undergone a liver cleanse (well, am technically at the tail end of it : ), I am MUCH clearer.

Keeping things simple is a good idea, generally, I think.

I wanted to add that if people want a really good, easy, super cheap and natural! exfoliater, try adding oatmeal to your wash. It's wonderful - and super gentle. I love it.

Cheers!

Good to hear ukulala.

Yes can see how something simple like oatmeal can work. When it comes to your skin care regime less is more. Many products out there just make things worse.

Liver cleanse is a great idea as it is all related and play a big part in our bodys glucose levels (related to GI & GL).

Yes good point. I have recently exchanged the face mask for exfoliator once a week. Very easy simply just use a muslin cloth to wipe away cleanser. That is a gentle once a week way to exfoliate your skin.

You need a few days of free time. You have too drink loads of grapefruit and olive oil mixed together. Its pritty rough but worth a go. Its mental when you see the crap that comes out. There should be more detailed info on here somewhere or on google. Can't remember fully was a long time ago I did one.

Going to update this to eat Low GL foods as it takes things one step further.

Im am now pritty much 100% clear. It could also be the reason some people don't see improvements as if you eat too much of a low gi food that is high in carbohydrates it will in fact increase your insuling levels (mess with your hormones).

For example Quinoa is classed as low gi but if you eat over 40g (dry weight) of it at one time it infact becomes High GL, which basically means it would increase your insulin levels (messes with your hormones).

This works both ways as watermelon is deemed High GI but at the levels we eat it makes it Low GL. This because when testing for the GI they use a quantity of food that gives you 50g of carbohydrate. For example in watermelon there is only 7.5g of carbohydrate per 100g. Which means to test the GI you would need to consume around 650g of watermelon, which is not realistic.

Low GL is basically more accurate. Hope this makes sense. It is worth getting a Low GL book and don't forget avoid DAIRY. Balance your hormones and you will clear your skin.

Be good to keep this going & live. As it will defiantly help people with only mild acne. I would put my house on it...... saying that I still live in my mum & dads house.

Just cutting dairy & sugar out and using the cleanser I recommended would probably even be enough for people with mild acne. The worse your acne is the more you will need to do to balance your hormones.

Thanks for the tips on those products. I may look into ordering that cleanser.

I went on roaccutane about 5 years ago. Afterwards I noticed a big improvement in my skin but I still suffer with mild breakouts and recently can't seem to shift breakouts on the side of my face (sort of in front of my ears area) and it's really bothering me.

I've been using benzol peroxide for about 2 years and it has helped (as well as bleaching everything in my house) but even that seems to have its good and bad days.

Now I used benzol peroxide along with Cetaphil cleanser. I'm still struggling so may give this product a go.

Do you use anything other than this cleaner (like BP or another on the spot treatment). Do you get oily skin??

I do eat bread and sometimes sugary things but I also eat a lot of nuts, veg and spinach. I drink about 5 litres of water a day and exercise 3 times a week.

Recently I've had to resort to using a mineral make up on some of my pimple again which I really hoped I wouldn't have to do... so any advise would be good and I will def. be getting the cleaner you suggested to try out.

Sorry I replied to your direct message.

Personally don't use any treatment. Find they cause more problems & are not a long term solution.

The treatment is getting to the root of the problem by balancing your hormones. This can be done by making diet & lifestyle changes.

As I said in the direct message would reccommend, slowly coming of BP, maybe reducing the days you use it by one every week. Would only do this if you are getting to the root of the problem via diet & lifestyle.

Hope this helps

Glad this method is working for you. I've tried every product out there, the natural way, vitamins, healthy diet like you suggest, exercise etc etc x 100000000 after over 10 years on these boards. Your method doesn't work for me. When I tried what you do, my acne explodes. I'm happy it works for you though.

Some of us just have bodies that are prone to acne, and there isn't a single thing in this world we can do to stop it.

It is all about balancing your hormones, have you ever had a simple skin care regime, low stress and eating low gl diet (also no dairy) at the same time.

I'm sure you will eventually find a way.

I would still recommend that everyone uses a moisturizer. Cleansers don't really do the job, even if they are hydrating.

But yeah, if your skin is sensitive, keeping it simple is the best.

Yes I have started to moisturise again as it is winter. So important to use one that will not clog your pores.

Crazy had plenty of cake, dairy and sugar for a few days and the worst break out in years.

This regime works wonders, back onto it straight away. Simply acne is a hormonal issues (thats why it starts in teens normally) and food/lifestyle messes with your hormones.

Balance your hormones by reducing stress and eating Low GL foods & no dairy. Back all this up with a nice gentle skin care regime.

The best thing is when you eat healthy, you feel good, look good, have more energy etc. And best of all clear skin.

So the latest Pure Chimp moisturiser I have been using is freaking amazing. Been using it for a month now. I have found it works great if I only use a tiny amount every evening. This one is a keeper.

I have now pretty much gone from 95% clear to 99% clear & a tone to my skin I haven't seen since I was a baby haha.
