Any Cures For Acne Scars/postinflammatory Hyperpigmentation/redness/stains (Pictures)

Hi all,

Can those Acne Scars/Pigmentation Inflammatory Hyper/redness remarks on my face removed? or get cured? They are so ugly that I am afraid of showing my real face to people. I still need to work in the office, see my colleagues & friends, but with this crappy face, I lose all my confidence!! Any suggestions? Without heavy makeup, I can hardly go out of my door...Everyday, 1 hr makeup before going my room, sometimes makeup is hard to brush evenly when my face is caked...I changed from an outgoing positive guy into an absolutely loner (afraid of seeing friends, group activities). Only in evenings when light is weak, I can go out less worrying about my skin because of darkness covered some imperfections on my skin. I lost the courage to step out under the sun & hate strong lighting.

Here is how it develops:

Before May 2010: Clear Face

May 2010 - August 2010: Acne popped up on my right cheek & nose & around mouse & forehead, with several cyst & nodular acne. Visited doctors who were irresponsible and only considered earning money.

August 2010 - June 2011: New acne on my right cheek & nose & around mouse & forehead every 2 or 3 days. I tried all kinds of face wash lotions & creams. Severe acne (with pains) popped up, leaving ugly stains on my cheeks.

June 2011 - Now: Took antibiotics & creams from GP. Initially, I had a several breakout which occurred even on my left cheek which was almost clear for a long time. After the severe breakout (with deep nodular & cyst acne), I had those scars/pigmentation/redness on my both right & left cheeks.

Tried products:

Expensive Vichy...

Vichy Normaderm Day Cream: no or limited effect, maybe allergic, cause extra redness

Vichy Normaderm Nacht/Night Cream: no or limited effect

Vichy Normaderm Facial Cleanser: Minor effect, since many other products also contain Salicyclic acid.

Vichy Dermablend (Makeup):No side effect. Good, but too heavy to smooth out evenly.

Vichy Normaderm Tent (Makeup): No side effect. Good. Too light to cover heavy stains.

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast: Good moisturizer.

Merz Mederma: So-called scar remover, limited effect, caused itchy and additional redness.

OTC Benzoyl Peroxide: Minor effect. I suspect it's BP that causes the redness and red/brown stains. In the past, when I have breakouts, the skin healed itself within 2 weeks and after 1 or 2 months or so, the redness was gone.

Duac Gel: Minor effect. Only tried for 20 days, keep it in a refrigerator.

Minocycline 50, 50-100, 100 PCH: Good, keep my acne under control. But it will cause headache, dizzy, sour stomach.

Erythrocine 250 mg: Good, keep my acne under control. After 5 month on Minocycline, I switched to Erythrocine.

Zinc supplement: tried for 1 or 2 weeks, no judgement yet.

Apple acid: tried twice, no judgement yet.

My beliefs

No milk. Milk triggers acne.

No dust. Dust triggers acne. Clean room every week and wash bed stuff every week.

Acne is somehow contagious. Staying with clear people will improve your skin.

Here is how I look like now...

Try a photofacial from a dematologist's office. It will disperse the redness/lessen it and take the brown out of brown spots. Microdermabrasian might also be helpful, but I'd try the photofacial first. I've done both and have had good results. Good luck!

Many thanks bro. I really appreciate your advice.

I wonder how long can I see the result? How is your situation now? I am also considering using cosmetic peels such as salicylic acid, glycolic acid, & Retin-A stuff. Will those be working?

Many thanks!

Great to have your advice & Great to hear it works with you. I definitely will give it try. Really Big thanks!

Btw, you did the photofacial twice and you got a good result? how long did you wait between the two photofacial procedures?

I wish I can pick up my confidence again and reveal my true face again. biggrin.png

i have been doing the photofacials since 2005 because i still breakout and continue to get new scars. i will usually do a series of 3-4 then give it a break for 6 months or so and then do 2-3 more and go from there. i get them 3-4 weeks apart and there is no downtime. i get them done at lunch and go right back to work.

PhotoFacials - I've had two in two months. Results are good, but I need more. Need to wait now that I'm on Accutane. Retin A will make you peel, a good chemcial peel may cause an outbreak, but you'll love the results later (friend had one, not me). I think that in-office procedures are always better than a topical because they go deeper into the skin and have more dramatic results. You pay more, but you get what you pay for.

So basically, many times of photofacial are needed in order to get a full cure, right?

Thanks for your info, I will try to do both if necessary - retin a & facialphoto. :)

Thanks for your kind post, your story of successful recovery from the acne really encouraged me.

I also suffered the psychological trauma caused by acne. In the past, I was very active and outgoing guy but now I am a bit of loner...

I did the same thing of covering my face with heavy makeup and I know how it feels. Without 1 hr daily makeup, I cannot even step out my door!! And the makeup sometimes is hard to brush evenly or makes your face look a cake!!

I have an oily face, esp around nose area. I definitely will take your recommendation and ask my dermatologist to prescribe something like accutune (I am in Europe).

i know how you feel... i think i would rather some spots over the oil if im honist .. as the oil also inflamed my skin so much i was like a puffer fish ,,,lol...... there are side effects to accutane ( the only one i got was slight hair loss..)but if you ask for the lower dose .. its just as effective and minimal side effects...and so worth the outcome!!! good luck :) xx

Hello! I too suffer from bad scarring as well as some acne, but the scarring is what is really really noticeable. It's nice to hear there is something in the UK that might help, so much stuff on acne.org seems only to be available in the USA. Do you have to pay for adapaliene? Iv'e never heard of it before but if it works I'm willing to go in and badger my gp for it! I've tried other things from dermatoligists and none have worked. I have found a good topical regime but I feel something stronger, something from the inside is needed, if you understand? I also find I can't wear make up really as its slides off my face after maybe an hour or two and just looks even worse, it's at a point where I just avoid going out and feel ashamed if I do, it's nice to think there maybe something that I've not tried yet that could help!

Sure, I will definitely ask my dermatologist to prescribe low dose to try out. But here the medical system sucks, I have to wait for almost a month to see the specialist (dermatologist)! GP only loves to order antibiotics, maybe I should press GP more to get some medicine.

Btw, I found when my skin is peeling, it's very difficult to have makeup, it ruins the texture & the color!

I hope one day we will never suffer this shit again! Acne should have received more medical attention as it's not only a skin disease but also causes psychological traumas also! Last time I called a hospital on weekend and they said it's a third tier issue and they didn't accept emergency call from acne suffers!!
