Anti Aging Products In Conjuction With Benzoyl Peroxide?

Recommended Posts

I had moderate acne for about 3 years. My skin has been clear for about 2 years now, thanks to proactiv. I would still break out here and there, usually during that time of the month or when i just eat too much greasy food. So its safe to say that my breakouts are hormonal, or at least that's what i would like to believe. I stopped using proactiv, except the repairing lotion which is basically a benzoyl peroxide treatment gel to keep the acne bacteria away. Right now, i just use a gentle cleanser (purpose), toner, the repairing lotion, and a moisturizer for my skin care routine. Its been working well for me and i will stick to this routine. However, I would like to start using anti aging products such as eye cream and anti aging serum/essence. I'm only in my 20's but i would really like to start using anti aging products. Prevention is better that treating. Do you think its safe to use anti aging products with benzoyl peroxide?

thanks :)

If you mean anti-aging products with vitamin E and/or C: yes (though vitamin E applied topically does cause trouble for some). BP has shown to drastically reduce epidermal vitamin E and C, replenishing these vitamins sounds like a good idea. However, research suggests that applying them in conjunction with BP will only increase the problem. For some reason, you have to apply them well before BP. Benzoyl peroxide creates a lot of free radical damage. Best to use anti-oxidants to prevent further aging. The best anti-oxidant, however, is the one you make yourself (glutathione). The most bioavailable precursor to glutathione is N-acetylcysteine, I believe. I would try to get that in the diet while using a good topical antioxidant, like seabuckthorn seed oil.

seeing as bp shouldn't go near your eyes it probably would make sense to use seperate eye creams...wrinkles and ageing around the mouth is what im most concerned about...
