Masturbation, "oh No! Not A Another One!" Xd

Recommended Posts

I know what your thinking, "oh no another masturbation topic >_>". and yes, it is lol. But i'm making this topic cause i really want to know the truth, Does it really cause acne? I mean really, does it? I see left and right, "no it doesnt" "yes it does" "its a myth" "its not a myth" etc... And i've did research on other fourms, websites and still its all left and right answers :/. *confused as hell*

I've suffered from acne for so many years and for all those years i've masturbated, i mean really who doesnt? So maybe it does? Since all these years i still have it, and still have been masturbating and it never goes away. Its hard to quit, im sure you know.

But really from a true witness, one who has stop and noticed a dramatic improvment with their own eyes and know it couldnt be anything else, i want to know, does masturbation cause acne? If it truely does, im gonna try my absolute best to stop.

So,

is it a myth?

is it truth?

is it scientific fact?

is it just a little white lie from our parents so we wouldnt do it?

Gimme an answer if you can, thanks.

Personally, the only answer I can give is that it's rarely something I do, but I have acne. Perhaps it could be a trigger, to some degree, and I would assume that it would vary from person to person. But, I just can't see that it would ever be as black and white as to say that it causes acne or that if you stop, your acne will go away. I just can't really see how it would make a major difference one way or the other.

I'm gonna paste in what I said on another post:

"As for masturbation---I'm sorry, but I say screw that theory! Haha! The hormone thing--ok--yeah, I'm no expert, but my theory about that theory, is that it's just one more way to make people feel guilty about their sexuality.

I'm a married woman, with the same partner since I was 16 and incredibly happy with very regular sex wub.png . I still masturbate on occasion and you know what? It's a huge stress relief and as we KNOW for a fact---stress causes acne. I would rather get acne from sex then get acne from stress. So there! Lol."..........................

For you,the other thing I wanted to add is:

If masturbation increases the hormonal response that causes acne, wouldn't sex do the same thing?

Why is the focus on masturbation? Why isn't the question: "does sex cause acne?" After all, aren't the same hormones released during arousal?

I really think this is a myth perpetuated to make people feel guilty. Most people masturbate (I got that form my Human Sexuality textbook (Diversity in Contemporary America) and 20% of adults suffer from acne. So if most people masturbate, yet only 20% of us get acne, then you do the math.

I truly believe there are so many things that trigger acne, and just like treatments, different things are causing it for each person, and different things will take care of it for each person. That is the most frustrating news ever! Because we all want an answer!

I say, don't give in to it. Don't feel guilty. You are a sexual creature like everyone else.

On a more humorous note, have you ever watched Green Porno? Created by Isabella Rosellini, you can find these videos through Sundance and You Tube. They are scientifically accurate and make me feel a hell of a lot more normal for being sexual!

Best of luck to you in your quest to find your answers.

I'm not quite sure what masterbation is, but if you are referring to masturbation, there have been legitimate studies over the years that do not connect masturbation with acne. An orgasm is an orgasm and ejaculation in the male is ejaculation no matter how it is caused. If you think about it, then you might as well say sex in general causes acne...yet nobody ever says that.

This is one of the old myths and medical science has disproved the connection. If there is a stress component to acne, sexual activity relieves stress.

There are those on this forum (young with little in the way of physiological knowledge) who will say: "Dude if you beat off you are going to get zits." Well you are going to get zits whether you beat off or not.

It's okay to go out with Ms Hand and her five daughters LOL !

I've heard this to, I've masturbated before and I've noticed my skin was more oily than before so I would say its definitely a factor but there are so many others aswell

I sometimes just think my face gets oilier after masturbating is because while I'm doing it I'm worried I might get caught which kinda stresses me out thus making my skin oilier. But thats just me.

I have researched this a lot and have come to the conclusion that, sorry to say, yes it does BUT only if your acne is hormone related. When someone climaxes it releases a hormone, the more climaxes the more excess hormones you have in your body. If your body can't process/rid them all guess what... hello pimple(s)! Google if you want to research for yourself. I think I did something like "hormones released after orgasm" or something along those lines. I've cut down to 2-3 times a week compared to 6+ and I think it has helped. Not a cure but helping the situation since my acne is hormone related.

Don't deny yourself sexual pleasures, regardless of whether you're having sex with someone else or just by yourself.

Basically, there are two types of acne: one that goes away on its own and one that doesn't go away without medication. Sure you can change your life style and hope it will go away "when you grow up", but if you think your acne is ruining your life, don't hesitate to go to a doctor and get yourself medication.

I've cut myself down to once a week. I don't think its made a huge dramatic difference but I think there is a small difference.

Ironically, I haven't for about 10 months and I and am on a low glycemic, dairy free diet and I use 2.5% benzoyl peroxide on my chin and forehead and my acne hasn't totally disappeared. Does abstaining cause improvement? I'm not sure since I've been doing other stuff to treat the acne as well.

OMG I have never heard that before! It doesn't really make sense though to me... I mean there are ways you can argue for either side that have been aforementioned, but what about the fact that masturbation relieves stress and stress causes acne?

I say Cheers, keep masturbating!

Thats what I thought before! Sometimes people here talk about how not masturbating stress or tenses them up. So you could do more damage by not masturbating then actually doing it. But remember to do it in moderation. I do it about once a week and I don't break out like crazy.

I think i have to agree that masturbation DOES cause acne. I have tried to not masturbate for 3-4 days and i didnt get any pimple for those days but I wonder why one day after I masturbate I always get new pimples.

I think the best practice is to moderate it. Masturbate/have sex once every 5-6 days could be fine but if you do it excessively your hormone might grow way too much

I'm currently on my third day of a masturbation fast, if you want to call it that haha. Not noticed a huge difference but I'll see after a month. Try it for a month and if it doesn't work, pack it in.

It's good for developing your will power too! haha

I don't get to masturbate alot myself, since I think it's kind of rude when there's a perfectly good hubby to take care of that need for me but sex in general seems to actually clear my face up. I've given it some thought before, trying to decide if it was chance or somehow related to orgasms. I really couldn't say for sure either way. All I know is my skin has never been any more clear than when I started having sex 2-3 times a day.

I am a guy, among many others on this forum, who experience this problem. Any means of ejaculation, whether it's sex or masturbation or wet dreams, leads to acne for me. FOR ME. This isn't an absolute for everyone. The question "does sex cause acne" is a bad question to begin with. If your question is "Does sex cause acne for some people?" YES.

All you need to do is search "ejaculation" on this forum and you will find plenty of discussion where some guys have noticed this connection within their own bodies. Do not be confused about whether this is true for everyone - it is not. It is true for some people.

To anyone trying to reason this out by saying "well, sex relieves stress, therefore this is disproved" you are so off the mark it isn't even funny. Temporary abstinence is the only thing that works for me. 1-2+ times per week and I'm bordering on acne. 2-3+ and I have acne for sure. If I keep it 1-2 tops per week, I'm more or less in the clear, depending on illness. Illness is the only other thing that seems to have an impact on my acne. I've tested this for years. And trust me, I wish it were not true. I really do.

It may vary from one person to another. What may seem like masturbation is causing your acne, it can possibly be something else. I've masturbated countless times today and my skin is clear as fuck

Exactly. Every person is different. It varies quite a bit. Saying that masturbation doesn't have an impact on YOUR acne, though, doesn't mean that it doesn't appear to be causing ours. I would never argue that ejaculation causes everyone's acne. I'm quite jealous of those who can get away with it and not have it impact their skin. Myself and others here, on the other hand, aren't coming to the same conclusion here.

Can we just agree that different factors lead to different results for different people? Can you guys stop trying to refute this? There's no point! To reiterate for the 1000th time, most of us are not here asking whether this is true for some people. We know it to be true for ourselves and that it may be completely UNTRUE for other people, and that's OK!

You guys are mental midgets, I'm sorry to break the news to you. That you can't wrap your mind around this being a possibility for SOME PEOPLE is truly disturbing in ways that you probably don't understand. Despite all this mumbling about science and physiology, it appears you don't understand science in the slightest.

You can't just make a study that "disproves" something when people are definitely experiencing a strong correlation/causation relationship between the act of ejaculation (masturbation OR sex) and the occurrence of acne and have it be absolute truth all of a sudden. That's not how science works. It could very well flip in the other direction by some new studies that crop up in the near or distant future, who knows. The existence of studies does not necessarily confirm something 100% in all cases. A study can sometimes lead to a strong theory, but even theories can still have loopholes or exceptions or special cases, etc. Over the course of time there have been tons of things that have been thought to be completely untrue or caused by some other factor, when it turned out years later that conventional wisdom or "common sense" was shown to be completely ass-backwards. So say what you want about there being studies that "disprove" the connection, but you saying that flies in the face of my direct experience and experimentation. Why does nobody take my or anyone else's direct observations seriously on this forum or elsewhere? I can only speak about my own experiences, just like you can only speak about yours. My experience over several years is that ejaculation by any means leads to acne within the next 1-4 days. A higher frequency of ejaculation leads to much more severe acne, including cysts. Withholding from ejaculation, or limiting it to 1 per week tops, causes my acne to go away. I've experimented with this in both directions. I've willingly put myself through this for the sake of being sure of this conclusion, rather than coming here and spouting crap off that isn't true. This is true for me, sorry to shatter your worldview about what ejaculation is supposed to be.

Question for you: Do you have cancer? If not, does that mean that nobody has cancer? Cancer is studied very widely because it happens to a LOT of people. But can you see where this is a problem for us here? There is a severe lack of study in this area because it is .... drum roll please.... A RARE PROBLEM! Rare problems do not get as much attention from scientists, because it's less likely for them to see it as a problem worth solving if it's not going to impact a lot of people. In this case however, it could very well be that this problem affects 1%, or maybe 0.25% of the population. That's still a lot of people, but not enough to have a strong enough voice, or for scientists to give it any more weight than other less rare diseases or disorders.

  • "you might as well say sex in general causes acne.. yet nobody ever says that" I am saying exactly that. This happens to me, clear as day. Maybe not you. And that's fine! That is entirely within the realm of possibility, of which you are in complete denial because it doesn't happen to you.
  • "Well you are going to get zits whether you beat off or not". I don't get them if I reduce ejaculation to no more than 1 per week. I get much much smaller acne if I'm sick and my lymph nodes are swollen, but illness is the only other thing and the acne is never even close to the severity of what ejaculation can do if I ejaculate more than 1 or maybe 2 per week.
  • "Don't deny yourself sexual pleasures" I WISH I DIDN'T HAVE TO! That's what you guys don't understand. This is not a mental phenomenon. When I ejaculate, a lot of stress is released, sure. But that effect in and of itself never outweighs the actual physical effects of the hormonal fluctuations on my skin. Choose to disbelieve that if you want, but you are not me so you don't really know what you're saying when you try to refute this idea. Your context is not mine, it's yours. Our frame of reference is entirely different. It could be the case that I have some sort of hormonal problem. The cause could totally be something else, like a lifetime of a bad diet or something. But regardless of all that, none of those ideas take away from the fact that the ONLY thing that appears to cause my acne is indeed the hormonal/chemical/sebum fluctuations in the days after ejaculation.

A dermatologist once told me "Don't worry, don't hold back, just let the spirit move you". I understand the sentiment and I want to believe she's just trying to help. But this just goes to show how ingrained this mentality is right now in a lot of people, including people on this forum. Everybody tries to get on the hedonist wagon and shout to everybody else "But you're supposed to ejaculate! It's good for you!" I WANT THAT TO BE TRUE! Trust me, I'm no bible-thumper, I have NOTHING against ejaculation whatsoever. No distinction between masturbation or sex. I have zero reservations about ejaculation aside from the fact that I know via empirical evidence (experimentation over years) that it causes the acne for me, and obviously others.
