Accutane Causes Depression Of Pituitary-Thyroid-Adrenal Hormones In Even Short Term

Recommended Posts

It was recently showed that isotretinoin decreases insulin-like growth factor-1 [growth hormone]. Increased IGF-1 in adulthood is probably the main cause of persistent adult acne and increased risk of prostate, breast and colorectal cancers [it slowly becomes clear that "acne" is not just a cosmetic problem]. I know that Isotretinoin is harsh and very systemic drug, but it might actually prevent cancer in susceptible individuals by lowering serum IGF-1.

But obviously much safer way of lowering IGF-1 is good diet and insulin sensitizing agents.

Very interesting article here: http://www.ncbi.nlm....les/PMC3141390/

Yes, it increases the sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) along with lowering testosterone levels. This is seen as the primary way it gets rid of oil production
