Is this Body Acne or Pityrosporum Folliculitis? Help!

Recommended Posts

On my body, i see no bumps at all, just a bunch of red marks, but some are from acne. my body is very clear of bumps but i see alot of red dots n stuff, what is this? i tryed BP AHA and loads of things, i eat healthy, i shower twice. my face is pretty clear as well, no acne at all.

Could it be the heat i live in Fresno,California and the heat is always above 90?

nothing seems to clear it, help

its on my arms, chest, neck and back.

It's hard to tell apart Body Acne from Pityrosporum Folliculitis. That's why it is commonly misdiagnosed.

Have you tried any PF Washes? Want some suggestions?

Here are a few common over the counter products used to treat PF;

  • Head and Shoulders
  • Nizoral Shampoo (1% Ketoconazole)
  • ZNP Bar
  • Salicylic acid
  • Selsun Blue Shampoo

I'm next going to post some variations of how to apply some of these products.

Weather may tend to have an impact on your skin if it is inconsistent. For you I doubt that's the case.

Yes sorry for not clarifying it's a shampoo, and generally it's used for the hair, but found effective for PF.

SA usually works both ways. Keep in mind it may have an initial breakout/purging the first few weeks of use that subsides.

People use the Head & Shoulders shampoo all over their body to treat folliculitus (however the hell its spelled).

And your acne looks VERY mild, though it might just be the lighting in those pictures.
