What can help the dry skin?

Recommended Posts

Im 40 yrs old. This is my first time on accutane. Ive been on it for a month and a half now. I m having the usual side effects, dry nose, dry eyes, joint stiffness but worse then all is the dry skin! I ve been out doing my gardening and using 70 spf sunscreen and its like it never worked at all. My face looks like a beet! My face is very dry and tight. Does any one have any suggestions! It seems like all the moisturizers I use, can't get through my leather like skin.....HELP!!!

Perhaps you could try to apply some pure topical vitamin E oil? It is very calming and moisturizing, so I think it should help you out! I've never taken accutane, so I can't speak from experience though. Give it a try though.

Have you tried very gently exfoliating before you apply your moisturizer? If you can buff away some dry skin (read: VERY gently...) and apply a good moisturizer - QV and Cetaphil make some pretty good ones, and I use one by Nude By Nature that's pretty nice - maybe you can get through some of the dry skin. Aside from that, you should probably be really careful about your sun exposure and definitely wear a hat.

Thanks everyone I will try these ideas. I will try exfoliating...that sounds like a good idea, then I'll try the vitimin E oil.

I did exfoiliate and it made a big difference! My skin does not feel as tight. The moisturizer seems to work a little now. My skin complextion is so much more even, I'm seeing good results so far.

That's awesome. :D I harp way too much about facial steaming but you should give that a bash, too. It softens up your skin like crazy. It also soothes irritated skin.
