Punch Float Progress (Dr. Y)

Recommended Posts

Animegyrl and smilingeyes,

Thanks for your advice.

I've already set up a consultation appoinment with

Dr.Yaborough on SEP 20th.

My parents are visiting me in Nov 2004.

Do you think if I get it done in SEP/OCT 2004, My parents can notice the skin discoloration?

Poe,

I also have scars on my nose( ice pick and enlarge pores).

Do you think some kind of puch technique will work?

I'm going to see Dr.Yaborough in Sep 2004.

See my photos below

Okay guys...here are the one week post-op pictures. I have marked the area that was excised and circled the one float that bothers me the most. It is kind of puffed up above the surface. I'm not worried, but I thought you guys might want to have a look.

Does anyone know if Dr. Y treats boxcars?

If so, what is his method(s)?

I have this huge dent and I doubt punch floats will do anything for that area. It's on the corner of my cheek up near the check bone so when I smile it makes it even worse.

Also, does he dermabrade the nose? From the sounds of it POE's nose wasn't touched much and the results were less than satisfatory on her nose for her.

Wow, thanks for posting those pics Misty! Unfortunately, though, they've sparked another spaz attack! I was looking at my calendar a few minutes ago and just realized that I have a group class presentation only 8 days after I have my punch floats! AHHH! I shall be up in front of about 50 other students in a super small classroom!

Misty, are you able to effectively conceal those punch floats with make up? Can we even apply make up so soon? Wait a minute, what I am saying – I don't even wear makeup – LOL. I do, however, apply a fleshy-tinted sunblock by Clinique everyday (sorta similar to makeup). Hmmm, I may have to investigate into Dermablend. I've heard that stuff is good.

*Edited by moi: Oops, I just reread the whole thread, and you had already replied about makeup. Sorry for being redundant! bb_icon_redface.gif *

Morris,

Did the TCA Cross NOT work on the ice picks you treated? I know you had about 25 done a while back, and thought you were going in for 4 treatments to get all of them done. Just curious since I have the same type scars but haven't tried TCA Cross yet.

I was just in New Orleans visiting a friend from college who is in dermatology residency (we went to college there). She actually had dermabrasion by Dr. Y for a dog bite scar on her face, and of course she, like everyone else, recommends him. I am going to try to get a consult for December. I have decided to do some punch floats, as opposed to TCA CROSS, per my friend's suggestion. She does them, but they don't do dermabrasion after if there are no other scars, just a lighter sanding if necassary with something that basically sounds like sandpaper. It's not as invasive as the dermabrasion. I don't know if I need dermabrasion, which is why I am going to see Dr. Y and see what he says. I have a few small pits and pretty minor scarring other than that, but I would like some improvement. I am curious if those who have had dermabrasion know how the rawness and healing varies with the level or depth of the abrasion. As someone mentioned, Misty doesn't look like she needs something heavy. I know the dermabrasion must be done within weeks of the floats, but I was wondering how the floats look in general in the interim. Are they pretty level and not so noticeable with makeup? Thanks! Best wishes for speedy healing to those in the process of doing so!

Animegirl,

Becasue it is difficult to see the detail of your scars I am wondering what type of scars you puch floated. They seem so small that I can only imagine that they would only work on icepicks. Would this work to raise the center of a rolling scar? Do they do larger punch grafts?

I would also like to know if it would be possible to get punch floats on other types of scars apart from ice picks, do you think it would work for small line shaped scars, these scars are also white is colour.

Oh also do you have any small scars that are white in colour? and is your face able to tan, after all of those dermabrasions?

Thank-you smile.gif

how much does it cost to do dermabrasion on both of your cheeks from dr. y? And is getting consultations hard to do ? Is there a waiting list?

Hey Anime,

How does your punched out floats look now? I was just wondering if you think it is worth flying to get them done and flying back in one day. My plane ticket is going to range from $200-250. I would love to get this done too and plan on making arrangements. I sent a good pic of all my imperfections of my face to him over a week and am just waiting on a call back to see if and how many I should do.

I have been checking for hotels around my time for dermabrasion and prices are not only high but alot of the hotels like the Hampton Inn are booked up already. This is for early Nov.

wantperfectskin: I tried in vain to get my old pre-op photos from the doctor's office where I had my procedures. Due to the fact that their office flooded several years ago they have not been able to locate them. I have tons of pictures from those years, but none of them are really close enough to tell much about my scarring. There are a few that I need to scan into the computer and take a closer view. I will get around to posting a couple of those very soon.

amnesiac: Dr. Y told me my scarring is not bad, so this will not be a deep procedure. The main purpose will be to smooth over the areas where the punch grafts were done.

portlandboy23: If a boxcar is too big for a punch float, an excision might work. The nose can be dermabraded, but I'm sure they cannot go very deep.

ConfettiedCannoli: I can cover up the punch areas very easily with makeup.

alison: My old doctor is now retired.

curious: My first dermabrasion was the longest healing time for me. I imagine it was because that was the deepest. I seemed to heal quicker with each procedure. I know the mask that Dr. Y uses cuts healing time by 30%. The punch floats are mostly level with the skin. There are a few that are still a bit lower than skin level, but not as deep as they once were. They are easily covered with makeup.

Violet: The scars I had punched were ice picks and boxcars. I know they have a tool that is 4mm, I'm not sure how much larger it goes. I don't know if the center of a rolling scar could be treated, but it seems possible.

MissShady: I know they punch ice picks and boxcars. I don't think it would work on a linear scar. I really don't have any scars that are white. I stay away from the sun at all costs since my surgery. I know that I freckle, but haven't tried to tan my skin in years. I was able to tan after my first dermabrasion, but now whenever I get in the sun without sunscreen/makeup on my face breaks out. I don't think I would tan very well after all of the procedures I have had on my face, but I don't know that for sure.

tacey: I'm not sure what the charge would be for just the cheeks. Full face is $4500. I know someone here had their forehead done for $1500, I think. As long as you have the $$$ it's pretty easy to get an appointment. They do book up in advance, so keep that in mind.

sunblock101: The areas are healing up nicely. I had a few breakouts around them, but I expected that given the bandages were on my skin for almost a week. I can easily cover them with makeup, but I still treat the area very tenderly. I use zinc oxide on them at night, to help with the healing process. I will take some updated pictures tomorrow. I am very glad I had this done, so yes I think it would be worth the plane ride. I know the hotels are $$$ and increase in the fall. Have you tried the Clarion? I'm just hoping Ivan doesn't hit N.O. this week! I am scheduled for Tuesday! bb_icon_eek.gif

Thanks animegirl. I hope your apptmt. date remains unchanged! I have scheduled my consult for Dec. 20, but may be able to move it up earlier. I know I want a few punch floats, so I guess I would need some dermabrasion after. I do have some hesitations about the risks of the procedure, which is why I am going for the consult. I would only get and I think need a light one to smooth out the floats too, so I am interested in your experience. I am hoping a light one wouldn't be too risky. I guess it's no big deal to someone who's had a deeper procedure. At any rate, I think punch floats sound great and I can't wait to have them done. I'm glad they're working for you and seem to be for others. Is there still some discoloration?

Anyhow, thanks for all the info from you and everyone else and happy healing!

Hi guys,

Just a quick note. I am assuming that my dermabrasion is still on for Tuesday. I will have to try and check with Dr. Y tomorrow. I just wanted to pop in and say that you might not hear from me for a while. Ivan is chugging towards us and we have been warned power might be out for up to a week. bb_icon_eek.gif I will update you when I can, but I have to dash at the moment. To those in harms way...take care.

curious: I only have a slight bit of discoloration at the punch sites. I will take pictures to post, but I'm not sure when I will be able to get them up.
