Stomach Pains

Recommended Posts

Well, i officially hate my Dermatologist and wonder how the hell he is still allowed to practice.

For accutane, i don't have severe, just mild acne. I wanted to get rid of it, and i went to the dermatoligist.

All he talks about is accutane, and wouldn't suggest anything else. After a while, i decided to go onto it. Btw, i am 16 years old.

He put me on the 40mg pills, but not one, two pills a day as an introductory... So i was taking 80mg a day.

Its not even been a week and i have had severe stomach pains, and back pain.

My mom called him and told him about the stomach pains, and the doctor refuses to tell me to reduce the dose, or even say that it is caused by Accutane. He says its not from accutane, and just won't LISTEN!!!

I stopped it myself today, and i did not have 1 stomach pain ALL day! I eat the same thing, so its not something i ate.

What should i do in this case? Should i switch dermatologists (don't even think there is one near me other than this crazy guy). Or should i go back to Apo-Minocycline? I only did Mino for a month before doing accutane, i could probably stay on Mino but i am confused as to what to do here.

i had the same problem and the same kind of Derm, i was only on 40mg in the beggining and i was getting bad stomach pains. when he said its fine i knew he didnt know alot about accutane or just didnt care. so i have been taking 40mg every other day instead of everyday and i just tell him i take it everyday. its working great my face hasnt been this clear in awhile and my side effects reduced alot. i plan to start 40mg everyday soon since its been 35 days and i think my body can handle it now.

I would say that you made the right decision to stopped when you noticed that something was clearly not right.

My suggestion will be to either reduce your dose to 20mg every other day or stop taking it altogether and go on holistic diet instead.

Why don't you just do what your dermatologist says. I mean, if your car was acting wierd and a mechanic told you that you needed a new engine, wouldn't you listen to him? I'm just saying since dermatology is his specialty he probably know what he's talking about. Besides, what's the worst that could happen anyways. No one's ever died from taking accutane right?

To answer your question yes people have died! Derms are not gods, as I have to say it is very disturbing that he has mild acne and started on a high dose of 80mg. Half of them have no clue when it comes to Accutane, probably haven't even read the insert w/ Accutane or thier pdr for that fact. Roche themselves do state that it can cause gastro problems, IBD, Chron's etc.... Sometimes it helps to take your health into your own hands as you will have to live with the conquences not you derm.

Agree w/ Max-

Though Larks I would try and find a derm who is willing to listen to you and understands and takes your concerns seriously. Glad your stomach pains got better once you ceased Accutane. Maybe light therapy, or like Max suggested Holistic diet??? You yourself said you have only MILD acne! Good Luck

Hey

I definatley agree with your decision to stop accutane. Im no doctor but i feel that some dermatologists dont know as much about accutane as they should, especially considering it can be so dangerous.

To start 80mg daily is a massive dose for a 16 year old starting the course! i started at 50mg and even that was hard to start with. Any pain around around the abdomen is definately not good from what ive read, accutane has killed people and left others seriously effected. Get a new dermatologist before making any other decisions because you dont want to risk damaging your organs for acne that might fade eventually anyway.

Good luck with it

Thanks for the replies everyone. So after i stopped the Accutane, instantly i did not have any stomach pains. I stopped it or 3 days, and no stomach pains. I took ONE 40mg pill today (only size he gave me was 40mg), and i can gladly say throughout the day there was not one stomach pain, or anything of the sort.

I have tried finding a derm, my doctor just recommends this guy, there are others within an hour drive away from me, but they are not acne specialists.. and the one guy my doctor recommended my mom went to for another reason, and he was not good either.

Roche themselves do state that it can cause gastro problems, IBD, Chron's etc.... Sometimes it helps to take your health into your own hands as you will have to live with the conquences not you derm.

IMO, you should stop taking it and consider yourself lucky. This is a sign a very of some very severe side effects. But you only took it for a week, so if you stop taking now there should be no permanent damage to your body. Others aren't so lucky, and the side effects don't shop up until it's too late and they've taken too much.

Also, you said that you're only 16 and have mild acne. Mild acne is normal at your age and you will probably grow out of it within the next few years.

I don't know why your derm put you on Accutane in the first place. First, you're only 16 so there's a good chance you'll grow out out of it. Second, you said yourself that it's mild acne... so wtf???

:snooty:

By the way, how much do you weigh? I am wondering if he gave you the wrong dosage.

I weigh 182 at 6"1.

Well, all the doctor suggests is Accutane accutane, and oh yeah, more accutane. He's a nut over it.

I am going to go with you guys, im not going to take 1 pill, im just going to stop it all together, and go back and do Mino.

Here is the thing, my brother had acne, only did Mino, and stopped it after 6months, then he just grew out of his acne and has been fine. He grew out of it at 17/18. I am just about 17.

My brother told me, if i want to get rid of acne best way is to start having some sugar, not a lot but a little in my diet to help my body get accumulated to sugar. That way your body will be accustomed, and your acne won't be so sever. It sounds logical, is it true? I don't know...

Reason he suggested that was because i am very strict on my diet because im into some powerlifting/bodybuilding.

I have not had a pop, candy bar, sweet sugary thing in 3years. I love not eating that stuff, i am offered all the time but i say no because i don't care for it, and also don't want to risk getting more breakouts. So i basically don't take in ANY sugar that is added into products. Only sugar i would get in a day is from berries, and milk. That is all.

Should i start eating stuff with low sugar like pudding, or banana's and peanut butter etc?

I honestly don't see how adding sugar would get rid of acne, if you want to try it maybe you could have a small glass of orange each day. If you're looking to try a natural remedy, one of the most popular ones is drinking pure lemon juice (add it to water). You just have to be careful as it can be bad for you teeth if you're not careful, but otherwise it has good reviews on here.

But I would guess that your brother probably just grew out of it and you probably will too.
